My Thoughts:

Both of my daughters are finally at the age that they are understanding and getting into the holidays.  While Arabella still doesn't grasp that once a holiday is over like Halloween, that you have to wait until next year to celebrate it again.  She kept asking this past weekend if we could go trick or treating again and see the pumpkin display down the street.  Because holidays are starting to hold meaning for them, I have been looking for books and movies to share with them, to help them understand the next major holiday coming up -- Christmas.  They know that if they are good that Santa will come and leave them toys.  But, I sat them down this weekend and talked to them about why we really celebrate Christmas -- the birth of Christ.  To help them understand what I was talking about, I played the new Veggie Tales movie that recently releases, "VeggieTales: Merry Larry and the True Light of Christmas."  The girls, as well as my nieces and nephews love the VeggieTales movies, so they were excited to see this new movie.  This new holiday film does a great job of reminding children (and parents) about what Christmas is really about.

Narrated by Si Robertson, AKA the Duck Commander, who plays a janitor named Silas the Okra, we follow along on Bob the Tomato and Mr. Lunt are hired to decorate the mall for Christmas.  While decorating, they run into "Merry Larry," who is volunteering at the mall as a Christmas elf.  Out of the three, "Merry Larry" is the only one who understands what Christmas is all about, and he tries to get Bob the Tomato and Mr. Lunt to spend their time helping others.  The story of Christ's birth and the friendly reminder to help others without expecting something in return resonates with the story.  Viewers both young and old will enjoy this story, which is filled with holiday cheer, festive lights, amazing animation and a story line easy for all (especially the younger audience) to understand and appreciate.

We will definitely be watching this movie again as the holiday draws near, and will be adding it to our must see annual Christmas video collection.  If your family is a fan of VeggieTales, you will want to pick up a copy of this new release, if you haven't already. :-)  Or, if you are looking for a fun way to teach your children about the true meaning of Christmas, without pushing too much religion on them, this is the movie that will help share the story of Christ's birth.
