Synopsis:

"When a young boy and his mother move to a new home, the boy discovers a secret box hidden under the floorboards of his bedroom.  In the box, he finds a hat, scarf, some lumps of coal and a shriveled tangerine – it’s a snowman-making kit! Later that day it starts to snow.  The boy builds a snowman, and with a little spare snow left over, a Snowdog.  That night they come to life and take him on a wonderful adventure.  As dawn breaks they fly home, but before the boy returns to bed a magical surprise awaits him…

Raymond Briggs’ iconic children’s book The Snowman follows the wonderful adventures of a young boy and the remarkable Snowman he creates.  Adapted for the screen in 1982, the Oscar-nominated film has enchanted generations of children.  On the 30th anniversary of the original film, Briggs has given his blessing to this brand-new sequel.  The magic is about to begin all over again, this time with a new set of friends."

My Thoughts:

I grew up watching "The Snowman" with my family during the holidays, and now with children of my own, I can enjoy this new sequel.  The storyline is easy to follow, even for young viewers, and at only 70 minutes keeps children's attention. The magic of Christmas, along with the importance of friendship, shine through in this movie.  I loved the animation, which is similar to the iconic children's book and movie.  I can't believe this year marks the 30th anniversary of the first movie, 'The Snowman."  But, I can see both of these movies becoming family favorites, and enjoyed for years to come.  Since receiving a copy for review, my kids and I have already watched this movie about the little boy and his new Snowman friend, half a dozen times.  What a way to get into the holiday spirit. :-)

I ended up picking up a copy of Raymond Brigg's children's book, "The Snowman" to share with the girls at bedtime.  In addition to this amazing family friendly movie, this new DVD release also includes a behind the scenes documentary, as well as interview with Raymond Briggs.  I thoroughly enjoyed the interview with the author, and know you will, too.
