Gorton’s Seafood "Fisherman’s Friday" Sweepstakes Review & Giveaway

Closed.  Congrats to Colleen, Mary and Elaine.

I am not a big fish eater, but my husband is. And, now that we are introducing Savannah to our foods, he has been eagerly awaiting to try her with different fish dishes.  I told him to start out small, by first introducing kid-friendly fish sticks to her, and then move up to actual fish dishes.  When my husband told me he never ate fish sticks, I couldn't believe it.  I remember as a child my mother trying to get us to eat fish on Fridays by telling us the fish sticks she was giving us were really mozzarella sticks.  After the first bite (and smell), I knew otherwise.  It took years of sampling different fish to find my favorites.  I am a lobster and clam girl, while my husband loves salmon, haddock and tilapia.  Whenever my husband asks for fish or shrimp, I always look for Gorton's products in the frozen food aisle.  On a recent trip to the market, I found that they are now offering sandwich fillets and a Skillet Crisp tilapia.

I was excited to see Gorton's new Skillet Crisp Tilapia, and couldn't wait to hear what my husband thought of it.  Usually, I would prepare a fresh fish dish, but with my busy schedule and the girls usually skipping this afternoon nap, I don't have a lot of time to prepare dinners like I used to.  So, meals like this work great for me.  In under 20 minutes, I was able to serve up a lightly coated and crisp piece of tilapia, that my husband couldn't stop raving about.  He said there were just enough spices in the battered coating, and the fish was so moist and tender.  If I hadn't told him it was from Gorton's and came frozen, he would have thought I bought it fresh and spent a lot of time coating and cooking it up.  And, just the other night, I picked up another box of Gorton's Skillet Crisp and baked it.  My husband said he preferred it prepared on the skillet, as it made the lightly coated crust a little crunchier, which he loves.

Even thought Savannah wasn't a fan of fish sticks, when my husband gave her some of his skillet crisp tilapia to try, she couldn't stop asking for more.  Now, when I prepare this dish, I need to cook up two fillets, one for my husband and one for Savannah.
