DISH introduces whole-home 4K Netflix experience

DISH introduces whole-home 4K Netflix experience

Netflix app now on 4K Joey clients for 4K viewing in multiple rooms; builds on Hopper 3 availability announced April 2016

"DISH is now the first major U.S. pay-TV provider to offer a whole-home 4K Netflix experience. After offering Netflix Ultra HD titles on its Hopper 3 DVR since April 2016, the company added the app to its 4K Joey client. Now DISH customers have the ability to stream the robust catalog of Ultra HD TV shows and movies on Netflix in multiple rooms throughout the home.

When connected to a Hopper 3, DISH’s 4K Joey provides similar TV functionality to other rooms in the home. Hopper 3 supports up to six 4K Joeys simultaneously, powering a total of seven 4K TVs at one time.

“Netflix is leading the industry with one of the largest 4K libraries available,” said Niraj Desai, DISH vice president of product management. “Our customers love watching their favorite Netflix TV shows and movies in Ultra HD on Hopper 3, so we’re extending the app to our 4K Joey clients to deliver the added flexibility of a whole-home 4K Netflix experience.”

To access Netflix’s 4K programming, DISH customers should select the “Home” or “App” button on the remote control, then select the Netflix icon. The app can also be accessed on channel 370 in the DISH programming guide. Once in the Netflix app, Ultra HD titles are identifiable by searching the terms “4K” or “UHD.” With Netflix integrated into DISH’s universal search results, its 4K titles will also be populated in episode lists using the DISH remote’s traditional search functionality.

DISH customers must subscribe to Netflix’s $11.99 per month subscription plan and have a 4K-compatible television to access this Ultra HD content on Hopper 3 and 4K Joey. Netflix recommends an Internet connection speed of at least 25 megabits per second to stream Ultra HD titles."

DISH Becomes First US Pay-TV To Provide Whole Home Netflix Experience + VEVO on Set-Top Box

Preview image
"In another industry first, DISH today enhanced its whole-home entertainment offerings with the expansion of Netflix to its Joey clients and the arrival of Vevo on its award-winning Hopper platform.
Following the launch of the Netflix app on its second-generation Hopper DVR in December, today DISH began making the world’s leading Internet television network available on Hopper’s accompanying Joey units for second, third and fourth-room viewing. With this update, DISH becomes the first major U.S. pay-TV provider to offer its customers a whole-home Netflix experience.

“We’ve received a great amount of positive feedback from our customers since the launch of Netflix on Hopper,” said Vivek Khemka, DISH senior vice president of product management. “Consumers love Netflix, so today, we’ve taken this integration one step further, offering instant and affordable Netflix access throughout the entire household on one easy-to-use platform.”
"Our great partnership with DISH has helped expand the number of places where you can see and easily view great content such as ‘Marvel's Daredevil’ and ‘House of Cards’,'' said Bill Holmes, Netflix global head of business development. "Now that DISH is expanding its Hopper experience with its Joey clients, our members will be able to start watching in the living room, pause and pick up right where they left off in the bedroom, and elsewhere in the home."
DISH’s second-generation Hopper customers should expect to see the Netflix app on connected Joey clients, including Joey, Super Joey and Wireless Joey, within the coming weeks. Those new to Netflix can create an account in the app or by visiting www.netflix.com/dish.
In a related announcement that gives customers even more centralized entertainment options, DISH today became the first pay-TV provider to offer Vevo. This enhancement gives customers access to more than 140,000 music videos directly from their TV. The new Vevo app begins rolling out to DISH’s second-generation Hopper today.

“While music videos were once a driving force in TV entertainment, we’ve seen a shift in programming that drove this content online to sites like Vevo, where it continued to draw high viewership,” said Khemka. “Together with Vevo, we are making it easier for Hopper customers to be able to view music videos on their TV screens–this time with even more choice and control over how viewers discover and enjoy the videos they want to see.”
“On TV, Vevo's audience spends more than 30 minutes per session watching music entertainment," said David Rice, Chief Product Officer, Vevo. "Our goal is to make access to Vevo’s library of music videos, original programs and our Vevo TV linear channels effortless, and with DISH’s Hopper, it’s now easier than ever for music fans to sit back, relax and be entertained."
The Vevo app on Hopper gives viewers access to a library of more than 140,000 HD music videos that can be discovered by browsing categories like genre, top videos and artists, live videos, premiers and staff picks. Users can also access Vevo TV to watch music videos playing 24/7 on three different channels – popular hits, country, and rap and R&B.
The app will additionally rollout to DISH’s first-generation Hopper, as well as to all Joey clients later this year, allowing customers whole-home access to Vevo entertainment.
Both the Netflix and Vevo apps are easily accessible from any DISH channel by clicking the blue button on the remote control."

Woo Hoo!!!! DISH Adds Netflix App to Hopper

DISH has added the Netflix app to its second-generation Hopper, becoming the first major pay-TV provider in the U.S. to offer the video streaming service to customers.

I have one more reason why I love DISH, thanks to their addition of the Netflix app to the Hopper.  Now, instead of pulling the house apart to find the right remote to switch inputs on the television, I can access directly from the DISH menu -- so easy!

"Say goodbye to switching inputs. This integration allows DISH customers to stream the full Netflix catalog from the same platform used to access their linear television channels. Hopper customers will find their in-app experience identical to the Netflix user interface found on other platforms. Both a DISH and Netflix subscription are required."

Here is more from the press release that DISH sent around today talking about this great new feature that I love DISH subscribers will love!  I already started to use it and it really does make life so much easier when switching between cable and Netflix.

DISH first major US pay-TV provider to integrate Netflix

·         App available today on second-generation Hopper® Whole-Home HD DVR
·         Integration streamlines customers’ video entertainment experience

"DISH today became the first major pay-TV provider in the U.S. to integrate the Netflix app into its set-top box. Available on DISH’s second-generation Hopper, the app gives customers the ability to instantly stream Netflix movies and TV shows, including “House of Cards” and “Orange is the New Black,” from the same platform used to access their linear television channels. The Netflix app will rollout to DISH customers throughout the day.

“Pairing Netflix with Hopper represents the consolidation of two incredible video experiences,” said Vivek Khemka, DISH senior vice president of product management. “This app integration eliminates the need to switch television inputs to access content on varying devices. It gives our customers easy access to their favorite shows and movies, on both DISH and Netflix, without ever having to leave their Hopper.”

“As the first major pay-TV provider in the U.S. to add the Netflix app to its set-top box, DISH strengthens an already robust video entertainment experience for its customers,” said Bill Holmes, global head of business development at Netflix. “Many households subscribe to both Netflix and a traditional pay-TV service. Our vast library of TV shows and movies, combined with DISH’s lineup of live television content, gives customers easy access to a wide variety of complementary programming.”

Hopper customers will find the same Netflix user interface found on most other platforms. The app is easily accessible from any channel by clicking the blue button on the DISH remote and selecting the Netflix icon, or from the Netflix icon on the Hopper main menu.

Those new to Netflix can create an account in the app or by visiting www.netflix.com/dish.

The Netflix app is currently available on all broadband-connected second-generation Hopper set-top boxes. In the coming months, DISH expects the app to rollout to Joey, Super Joey and Wireless Joey clients. Additionally, in the future, titles available on Netflix could be integrated into the search functionality across live, recorded and Video On Demand programs for both the Hopper as well as DISH’s forthcoming OTT service."
