DISH introduces whole-home 4K Netflix experience

DISH introduces whole-home 4K Netflix experience

Netflix app now on 4K Joey clients for 4K viewing in multiple rooms; builds on Hopper 3 availability announced April 2016

"DISH is now the first major U.S. pay-TV provider to offer a whole-home 4K Netflix experience. After offering Netflix Ultra HD titles on its Hopper 3 DVR since April 2016, the company added the app to its 4K Joey client. Now DISH customers have the ability to stream the robust catalog of Ultra HD TV shows and movies on Netflix in multiple rooms throughout the home.

When connected to a Hopper 3, DISH’s 4K Joey provides similar TV functionality to other rooms in the home. Hopper 3 supports up to six 4K Joeys simultaneously, powering a total of seven 4K TVs at one time.

“Netflix is leading the industry with one of the largest 4K libraries available,” said Niraj Desai, DISH vice president of product management. “Our customers love watching their favorite Netflix TV shows and movies in Ultra HD on Hopper 3, so we’re extending the app to our 4K Joey clients to deliver the added flexibility of a whole-home 4K Netflix experience.”

To access Netflix’s 4K programming, DISH customers should select the “Home” or “App” button on the remote control, then select the Netflix icon. The app can also be accessed on channel 370 in the DISH programming guide. Once in the Netflix app, Ultra HD titles are identifiable by searching the terms “4K” or “UHD.” With Netflix integrated into DISH’s universal search results, its 4K titles will also be populated in episode lists using the DISH remote’s traditional search functionality.

DISH customers must subscribe to Netflix’s $11.99 per month subscription plan and have a 4K-compatible television to access this Ultra HD content on Hopper 3 and 4K Joey. Netflix recommends an Internet connection speed of at least 25 megabits per second to stream Ultra HD titles."

DISH Launches “Sports Bar Mode” on Hopper 3 in Time for March NCAA Tournament Games

·         MultiView displays four different simultaneous channels on one TV screen at home
·         DISH is the only pay-TV provider to offer HD multi-channel view technology
·         Feature compatible with both 4K and HD televisions connected to a Hopper 3

"DISH Network L.L.C. today launched Sports Bar Mode, also known as MultiView, to Hopper 3 customers nationwide ahead of NCAA tournament first-round games. Sports Bar Mode is a multi-channel view that divides a 4K or HDTV screen into quadrants, each with the ability to display a different program. The feature works by decoding any four different feeds and displaying them simultaneously.
Sports Bar Mode shipped in the latest software update pushed to Hopper 3 set-top boxes last night. It arrives in time for the March NCAA tournament games, which schedules several basketball matchups at the same time within the first two rounds. In addition to Sports Bar Mode, the software update included performance enhancements and general bug fixes.
“This technology replicates the fan experience of catching several games at once, now from the comfort of your home instead of heading to a local pub,” said Vivek Khemka, DISH Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. “Sports Bar Mode is an especially useful tool throughout the month of March, as the tournament airs across four different channels. Not to mention, it’s great for households who don’t want to miss their favorite drama or sitcom, but also want to keep tabs on any live basketball games.”
Sports Bar Mode works with all live, linear channels in DISH’s programming lineup, as well as on demand content, and recorded TV shows and movies. To access the feature, customers press the “Options” button on the remote control, select “Picture In Picture,” then “MultiView.” Once the TV screen is divided into quadrants, customers can easily toggle among the four channels to determine which one will have its audio played. Sports Bar Mode is compatible with both 4K and HD televisions when connected to a Hopper 3. On 4K TVs, the four quadrants display in 1080; on HDTVs, the four quadrants display in 540.
Hopper 3 includes additional multi-channel configurations, including a split-screen feature that places two channels side-by-side, as well as a setting that overlays a second channel in the upper right hand corner of the TV screen.
Designed to change the way consumers find, record, stream and watch content, DISH’s Hopper 3 was first announced at the 2016 CES, then made available to the general market on Jan. 31. The third generation of DISH’s whole-home DVR system, Hopper 3 features 16 tuners, delivers an enhanced 4K experience, supports up to seven TVs simultaneously and integrates Netflix titles into universal search results."

DISH Unveils Hopper 3 with Enhanced 4K Experience -- It Includes 16 Separate Tuners and 4K Sports Bar Mode! #Hopper @dish

Disclosure:  As a DISH ambassador, I am provided complimentary service in exchange for promotional of services, honest reviews, etc.  However, all views shared are mine and mine alone.

Drum roll, please...If you weren't able to make it to CES 2016 where they announce all the cool new consumer technology, then you probably haven't heard about some of the new product releases from DISH -- one of which one the prestigious "The Best of CES 2016" award from PC.  :-)

Best of CES 2016 Logo

PC Magazine recently named the DISH Hopper 3 DVR as the "Best Home Theater Gear" of CES 2016! "Among other features, the Hopper 3 has "an unheard-of 16 separate tuners so you'll never, ever, ever have to decide what's worth recording."  How cool is that?  Now I don't have to sacrifice recording one of my favorite shows as the tuner is already set to record both my husband's and girls' shows.  While i don't think a family would need so many separate tuners, it is great knowing that DISH offers this and that they continue to turn out amazing products year after year.  From the Super Joey to the Hopper and Dish Anywhere, DISH continues to amaze me and other loyal customers time and again.  Not only have I found their customer service of phone operators and the technicians to be stellar, I love getting to check out these new additions to the DISH product line and sharing them with you.  Stay tuned in the weeks ahead as I will be trying out the new Hopper 3 and comparing it the Joey, Super Joey and Hopper we have had and currently have installed in our home and let you know how it compares.

But, in the meantime, I wanted to catch you up to speed on the new product offerings from DISH including the award-winning Hopper 3, which will make any consumer want to switch to DISH...if they haven't already! :-)
