DISH NEWS: DISH App Available Now on Android TV in the Google Play Store

"DISH announced yesterday that its DISH Anywhere app is now available on Android TVTM devices, bringing more choice and flexibility to how customers watch video content on their big screens.  While DISH Anywhere has been available on Android mobile devices since 2013, customers can now use Android TV media players and smart TVs for the first time to access their DISH programming, either at home or on the go. DISH Anywhere gives Hopper customers the ability to watch 100 percent of their live and recorded content, plus thousands of on-demand titles, from any location on internet-connected mobile devices, including smart phones, tablets and computers, and televisions via Amazon Fire TV and now Android TV.

"Media players provide easy access to video content, so it's no wonder one-third of U.S. broadband households own these devices," said Niraj Desai, DISH vice president of product management. "By expanding the DISH Anywhere app to Android TV, we're giving our customers more ways to view their content on devices they already own, at no additional cost." How to watch DISH Anywhere on Android TV DISH Anywhere can be accessed on Android TV devices, including media players like AirTV Player, Mi Box and NVIDIA Shield TV, and Sharp Aquos and Sony Bravia smart TVs. It's also available on DISH's EVOLVE set-back box for hotels, so customers can view their personal live and recorded DISH programming directly on their hotel room TV. The following DISH set-top boxes give customers access to live, recorded and on-demand content on DISH Anywhere: Hopper 3, Hopper with Sling, and first-generation Hopper or compatible ViP receivers connected to a Sling Adapter. All DISH customers may use DISH Anywhere to watch on-demand titles. Woo Hoo!!!! DISH Adds Netflix App to Hopper

DISH has added the Netflix app to its second-generation Hopper, becoming the first major pay-TV provider in the U.S. to offer the video streaming service to customers.

I have one more reason why I love DISH, thanks to their addition of the Netflix app to the Hopper.  Now, instead of pulling the house apart to find the right remote to switch inputs on the television, I can access directly from the DISH menu -- so easy!

"Say goodbye to switching inputs. This integration allows DISH customers to stream the full Netflix catalog from the same platform used to access their linear television channels. Hopper customers will find their in-app experience identical to the Netflix user interface found on other platforms. Both a DISH and Netflix subscription are required."

DISH first major US pay-TV provider to integrate Netflix

"DISH today became the first major pay-TV provider in the U.S. to integrate the Netflix app into its set-top box. Available on DISH’s second-generation Hopper, the app gives customers the ability to instantly stream Netflix movies and TV shows, including “House of Cards” and “Orange is the New Black,” from the same platform used to access their linear television channels. The Netflix app will rollout to DISH customers throughout the day.

“Pairing Netflix with Hopper represents the consolidation of two incredible video experiences,” said Vivek Khemka, DISH senior vice president of product management. “This app integration eliminates the need to switch television inputs to access content on varying devices. It gives our customers easy access to their favorite shows and movies, on both DISH and Netflix, without ever having to leave their Hopper.”

“As the first major pay-TV provider in the U.S. to add the Netflix app to its set-top box, DISH strengthens an already robust video entertainment experience for its customers,” said Bill Holmes, global head of business development at Netflix. “Many households subscribe to both Netflix and a traditional pay-TV service. Our vast library of TV shows and movies, combined with DISH’s lineup of live television content, gives customers easy access to a wide variety of complementary programming.”

Hopper customers will find the same Netflix user interface found on most other platforms. The app is easily accessible from any channel by clicking the blue button on the DISH remote and selecting the Netflix icon, or from the Netflix icon on the Hopper main menu.

The Netflix app is currently available on all broadband-connected second-generation Hopper set-top boxes. In the coming months, DISH expects the app to rollout to Joey, Super Joey and Wireless Joey clients. Additionally, in the future, titles available on Netflix could be integrated into the search functionality across live, recorded and Video On Demand programs for both the Hopper as well as DISH’s forthcoming OTT service."
