Disclosure: I was provided with complimentary tickets in exchange for promoting this upcoming theatrical release with Grace Hill Media.  All views shared are mine and mine alone.

'Trusting the Journey'

IN THEATERS MAY 14th

Even though Covid is not gone, places are slowly starting to open up, and things are starting to feel normal again. Kids are looking forward to school to be done, and for summer to arrive. And, I know parents are ready for a break, especially from remote or hybrid learning.  It has been a stressful time for everyone, and there is finally an end in sight, as the number of cases continues to drop as people are getting vaccinated.

A couple weeks ago, our movie theaters opened back up. And, when my girls found out, they started asking when we could go back, as they missed our weekly Friday movie days.  Being homeschooled, they would get to see all the new movie releases, and have the theater to themselves, while kids were in public school.  They loved sitting right in the middle of the theater, and having it all to themselves. And, now that the theaters are opened, they are excited to go back and see movies how they should be watched -- on a big screen and with amazing sound.

While the girls have a running list of upcoming movies  they want to see in the theaters, I have one that is top on my list -- "Finding You," which arrives in theaters on May 14th.  Have you heard about this drama/comedy? If not, you are missing out.  It is a great movie and wonderful story line about finding love in unexpected places, following your dream, trusting your heart, and living in the moment.  With the past year slowly in our rear view mirrors, it has given many people a new perspective on their lives, and most people aren't taking life for granted anymore. They are making changes, following their dreams, and living in the moment. And, this is the perfect movie to see when you return to the theaters.  Be sure to read on for a chance to win 2 FREE passes to see "Finding You," in theaters Friday. :-)

More about this movie:

"FINDING YOU is an inspirational romantic dramedy full of heart and humor about finding the strength to be true to oneself.

After an ill-fated audition at a prestigious New York music

conservatory, violinist Finley Sinclair (Rose Reid) travels to an Irish coastal village to begin her semester studying abroad. At the B&B run by her host family she encounters the gregarious and persistent heartthrob movie star Beckett Rush (Jedidiah Goodacre), who is there to film another installment of his medieval fantasy-adventure franchise. As romance sparks between the unlikely pair, Beckett ignites a journey of discovery for Finley that transforms her heart, her music, and her outlook on life. In turn, Finley emboldens Beckett to reach beyond his teen-idol image and pursue his true passion. But when forces surrounding Beckett’s stardom threaten to crush their dreams, Finley must decide what she is willing to risk for love. "

Counting Down the Days Until Gifted Arrives in Theaters This Friday, April 7th! #GiftedMovie

In theaters April 7th!

Looking for a girls' night out or date night movie this upcoming weekend? Then, look no further than Gifted, arriving in theaters this Friday, April 7th and starring Chris Evans, Mckenna Grace, Lindsay Duncan, Jenny Slate and Octavia Spencer.  I saw the movie trailer for this movie last year and have had it on my radar ever since.  Each year, there are a handful of movies like this that are released, that are a must see.  This movie in particular reminds me of movies I grew up watching and that have become films that will be enjoyed by future generations.  You know what I am talking about...a movie that will pull at your heartstrings one minute and having you laugh the next.  And, like a single friend of mine said, you can't go wrong with the eye candy (AKA Chris Evans) in the lead role. :-)

Haven't heard about Gifted?  Where have you been these past few months...just kidding. Check out the official movie trailer and see why I and so many other people are counting down the days until this movie arrives in theaters on Friday...

Doesn't this look like a great movie?  I love any movie Octavia Spencer is in, as her characters are always full of life and she brings a sense of fun to the movie.  And, she doesn't disappoint in his role in this movie.  You can see in the trailer just how well she works alongside Chris Evans and Mckenna Grace, making for a more enjoyable film.

This is one movie you can find yourself escaping your life for the duration of the film and really being the moment to enjoy such amazing acting from the cast.  The story line is also one that will draw you in and have you glued to the screen right until the end, as you continue to reach for a tissue to dry your eyes from sad and happy tears.

Friday can't get here fast enough.  I can't wait to go with a few girlfriends to see this movie, after grabbing a bite to eat.  I know that this is one movie will be talking about for awhile, and anticipating its release to DVD so that we can watch it again and again. :-)

So, if you find yourself at the movies this weekend and are looking for the perfect movie to see, why not check out Gifted?  You will not be disappointed!

The Conjuring 2 Official Movie and #Giveaway -- Prize Pack Includes FREE Movie Tickets and More (2 winners) #TheConjuring2

As promised, here is more about The Conjuring 2, including movie synopsis and the official trailer.  And, be sure to read on to learn how you can win 1 of 2 The Conjuring 2 prize packs, which includes FREE movie passes and more.

About the movie:

Like the previous film, THE CONJURING 2 revolves around the theme of God conquering evil, but also reminds us that we live in a world that makes “evil” look appealing. As Christians, we understand the biblical truths and dangers of the supernatural, but with an increasingly secular world that makes evil look attractive – in the form of sparkly vampires, even a “hot” Lucifer - we rarely discuss the many faces of evil, and the ways people - especially teens and young adults - may unintentionally open the door and themselves to the supernatural.
This sequel was written by Christians Chad and Carey Hayes.  It raises huge discussion opportunities on the nature of evil and the importance of faith. We’re happy to discuss various topics that could be weaved into a story for you including the value of faith and prayer, visions from God, parenting in these challenging times as well as the basic question of what is “evil” and how does that affects us.
"In 1977, paranormal investigators Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren come out of a self-imposed sabbatical to travel to Enfield, a borough in north London. There, they meet Peggy Hodgson, an overwhelmed single mother of four who tells the couple that something evil is in her home. Ed and Lorraine believe her story when the youngest daughter starts to show signs of demonic possession. As the Warrens try to help the besieged girl, they become the next target of the malicious spirits."
Here is the official trailer of The Conjuring 2, which arrives in theaters this Friday, June 10th...watch if you dare...

Don't forget to visit the official website to learn more about this soon to be box office hit, including clips from the movie and more.

And, as promised, my The Conjuring 2 giveaway...

AROUND THE BLOCK” IN THEATERS AND ON VOD, DVD AND DIGITAL PLATFORMS IN THE FIRST WEEK OF AUGUST.

film-around

“Energetic, fearless, and informed by Spillane’s personal experiences.” – Toronto Film Festival
“Christina Ricci brings edge to…Around the Block in Australian debut.” – Sydney Morning Herald
“A feel-good flick with heart and soul.” – FilmInk

"Random Media and Cinedigm (NASDAQ: CIDM) are releasing AROUND THE BLOCK on Theatrical, DVD, VOD and digital platforms in August. AROUND THEBLOCK debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2013 and hit Australian theatres in June 2014. Theatrical opening will be August 1st, followed by VOD, DVD and Digital platforms on August 5th.

From Australian writer/director Sarah Spillane, AROUND THE BLOCK was an Official Selection at the Toronto International Film Festival 2013 and was also featured at the Beijing International Film Festival and the Newport Beach International Film Festival in April 2014, where Sarah Spillane received honors for Outstanding Achievement in Directing. Spillane also won an Australian Directors Guild Award for her screenplay of Around the Block before filming even began. Starring Golden Globe and Emmy Award nominee Christina Ricci, AROUND THE BLOCK is an inspirational drama that explores themes about breaking cycles and building dreams.

Synopsis:

American drama teacher Dino Chalmers (Christina Ricci) moves to Sydney's Redfern district to be with her fiancé and is hired by the local school in what may be the school's final term. Dino's passion for Shakespeare drives her vision of producing a school play as part of the Indigenous cultural program, and finds that 16-year-old Aborigine Liam (Hunter Page-Lochard) has a natural gift for performance. But there is a shadow over Liam's life, with his father in jail and his older brother determined to avenge the death of his uncle. With Dino’s encouragement as she faces tough choices in her own life, Liam confronts his past and eventually takes control of his future."

---

My Thoughts:

There is something about Christina Ricci that I find intriguing.  Maybe because she is not the norm in Hollywood.  But, whenever I see her in movies and television, I can't help but stop and take notice.  I do have to admit that I will always remember her in Casper, Now and Then, Addams Family and Mermaids, from back in the day, I do have to say that it was a nice surprise to see her pop up on television and star in "The Good Wife" and Saving Grace.  If it wasn't for her photo on the front on this DVD, I think I would have passed it up.

Just by reading the synopsis, i thought it was going to be another teacher mentors lost soul and brings out the best of them, while watching the student struggle with inner demons or forces from the outside pulling them in the other direction.  There have been many movies like this, that have fallen short and left me wondering why I wasted a couple hours watching them. And, because my time is limited now that I have children, I try to make a point to screen movies out and watch ones I know I will enjoy and not wonder what else I could have been doing instead of watching this movie.

I have to admit, that while I enjoyed this movie, it was hard at firs to get my head around the stories of the two characters.  Their unique stories alone could have made great movies in and of themselves. Also, I really couldn't picture Christina Ricci as a teacher, and thought the tough looking students were going to cause harm to her, instead of stop and want to learn from her.

The movie at times seemed to fizzle out or be slow moving, but I found myself tearing up and feeling proud of Liam's accomplishments and how far he came as he took in front of the students and recited Hamlet.

Overall, if you are a fan of Christine Ricci, or simply like stories about teachers helping shape their students lives and bringing out the best of them, while teaching them to dream big, then you will enjoy this new movie.  I know I will watch it again, and when it arrives on TV, will stop and watch it whenever I find myself flipping through the channels for something to watch.

In Select Theaters Now -- Undefeated (Review)

Synopsis:

Academy–Award© nominated documentary UNDEFEATED is set in the inner- city of Memphis chronicling the Manassas Tigers’ 2009 football season, on and off-the-field, as they strive to win the first playoff game in the high school’s 110-year history.

A perennial whipping boy, in recent decades Manassas had gone so far as to sell their home games to the highest bidder, but that all changed in the spring of 2004 when Bill Courtney, a former high school football coach turned lumber salesman, volunteered to lend a hand.

When he arrived, the team consisted of 17 players, some timeworn equipment and a patch of grass masquerading as a practice field.

Focusing more on winning young men than football games, the football program nevertheless began resurrecting itself and, in 2009, features the most talented team Manassas has ever fielded; a team that seems poised to end the playoff jinx that has plagued the school since time immemorial.

A coming-of-age documentary film, Undefeated provides audiences an intimate view of an underprivileged group of teens and their inspirational coach, as they attempt to make history.

My Thoughts:

Like I have said in the past, with two young children at home, it is sometimes hard to get out to the theaters and see a movie when it is released.  Usually, we wait until it is released on DVD to finally watch it.  But, luckily the kind folks at Grace Hill Media sent me a screener copy of Undefeated to watch this week, prior to its release today.  After seeing the trailer a few weeks back, I had added this movie to my "must see" in theaters movie.

I am not a big football fan, well really not at all.  I would much prefer to watch baseball, where there seems to be more action, than just running up and down a field, tackling each other.  But, that is my opinion.  I know that in the South, football is a way of life for people.  I witnessed this firsthand when we traveled to Nashville and Atlanta a few years back and saw the crowds and tailgaters at the local football games.  But, I did find myself liking Friday Night Lights the movie and television series -- go figure!

Check out this video about the head coach giving a speech to her football team.  If this doesn't grab you and make you want to see if the boys have a football season to remember, I don't know what will.

What I loved most about this how Bill Courtney, a former lumber salesman volunteered to help turn the Manassas Tigers football team around.  In addition to being an underfunded school, the football team had poor equipment, terrible practicing facilities and only 17 players.  Their dream of a successful football season for slim to none.  But, Bill Courtney believed in them, and within 5 years of his arrival, he turned the team around and brought them towards playoffs, and making history.  While the team got better on the field, they also grew as men, learning about teamwork, discipline and that dreams can come true.  They could see that Coach Courtney believed in them, and in turn, they began believing in themselves.  This movie is truly heartfelt and moving.  I was on the edge of my seat, crossing my figures that they would make it to the playoff.  Did they? And, did they win?  You will have to see this movie for yourself to find out.

If you liked the television series, "Friday Night Lights", love football, or just a fan of inspiring documentaries, then you must see Undefeated.  It will not only warm your heart, but makes for a great family film to watch together.

Disclosure:  I was sent a copy of this movie in order to write up an honest review.  The views above are mine and mine alone.
