My family and I have been looking forward to this The Super Mario Bros. Movie since we heard it was being released. Then, last week on a rainy Saturday, we saw the movie in theaters and it didn't disappoint. I was never a fan of the live action Super Mario movie released in the 90's, so I was not sure what I would think of this new animated version. But, it was so much fun to watch, and had me wanting to hook up the old Nintendo to play Super Mario Bros. with the girls. Even my husband enjoyed the movie, and said it was a great way to tell the story of the video game we grew up playing in our basements.
Once the movie was over, my youngest daughter was quick to ask if we could get the movie on Blu-ray or DVD when it released, as this was one movie she wanted to watch over and again. Plus, she said the bonus content would be cool to check out. Well, she didn't have to wait long for her request, as this past Monday we received an advanced Blu-ray, DVD and Digital combo pack of the movie in the mail to review, thanks to the kind folks at Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. Because we had recently watched the movie in theaters, we made a point to first check out the bonus content, which included a making of the movie featurette, a field guide, "Peaches" lyric video, leadership lessons from Anya Taylor-Joy who places Princess Peaches in the movie (check out a snippet of the video in my post), as well as a "Getting to Know the Cast" featurette. We had so much fun checking out this bonus content,and are planning a fun movie/video game night on Friday where we will watch this movie again, and then battle each other in the iconic Super Mario Bros. game on my childhood Nintendo. I can't wait, and I know the girls can't either, as that is all they have been talking about since Monday night.
