Get to know your neighbors

If you want to start getting to know people in your new home, start with your neighbors. Introducing yourself to your new neighbors could help you make some new friends, and help you learn more about where you live. Knock on their doors to say hello or invite your new neighbors over for a coffee or a drink.

Introducing yourself to your neighbors can also help your kids feel more settled. If they have children of similar ages to your own, arrange a play date or invite the family over. Moving can be tough on your kids, but there are ways you can make moving easier on them. Making some new friends can help your kids feel happier in their new home, giving you one less thing to worry about.

Act like a tourist

One of the best ways to get to know your new home is to explore it like a tourist. Check out some of the best places to eat and visit and start exploring! Going for a lot of walks around your neighborhood can also help you get your bearings and discover new places. Make time for this when you first move, it can help you become more familiar with your new community.

Volunteer

A great way to meet new people is to volunteer. There are sure to be a lot of good causes in your local community that could benefit from some fresh faces giving their time. From helping out at the school to suggesting some church outreach ideas you can get involved in, volunteering can help you connect and get to know people better. Put yourself out there and start helping out in your local community.

Take up some new hobbies or classes

Taking up some classes or hobbies can be another way to throw yourself into life in your new community. Join a gym or take a look at the different groups that meet in your community - it’s a great way to find a new home for your interests.

Getting to know your new community can be a lot of fun and introduce you to a lot of people. Spend those first weeks and months getting to know the lay of the land and all the people within it, and you’ll soon feel right at home.
