Dangers of Binge Drinking Abroad

Human beings are party animals. Put two people together in a room and it won’t be long before one says “so, what do you want to do today?”, and you can guarantee that the most fun sounding option will get the go ahead. For many people, fun times equal boozy times. A tipple here, a shot there, and maybe a glass or two of something with leaves and a sparkler sticking out of the top of it for good measure. Fun times. But did you know that throughout the holiday season of December in the USA, when everyone is travelling home to see family and work parties take place, almost 30 people die per day in alcohol related road accidents. If you or a family member have been affected, see this firm

With the summer months comes the urge to get away and enjoy yourself in the sun. And that can mean binge drinking abroad. Let’s look at some of the dangers.

Drunk people spend more money

If you go to a bar in a foreign land, specifically in a holiday hotspot known for binge drinking, there is likely going to be one noticeable offer: cheap cocktails. Why? Because bar owners can increase the amount of alcohol in your glass and decrease the amount of ‘mixer’. This sounds like a terrible business plan, you think. Well, in the short term, yes. But you’ll soon be drunk. And drunk people buy more and more alcohol, away from the cheap sugary cocktails. This can be a dangerous spiral…

Alcohol poisoning

Unlike food poisoning, which requires the affected individual to ingest food that carries harmful bacteria, alcohol poisoning can happen to anyone who drinks an excessive amount of alcohol (learning to spot the signs can save your life). How much is an excessive amount? That depends. Much larger people may have a higher tolerance, for example. The point to bear in mind here is that if you have been attracted to the cheap cocktail offer mentioned above, you may be in danger of overindulging and suffering from alcohol poisoning.

Alcohol and heat

Mixing alcohol and heat is asking for trouble. Dehydration and sunstroke are a cruel combination. Try to avoid drinking alcohol for every drink while on holiday. Drink water throughout the day, and try to drink non-alcoholic drinks between alcoholic drinks in the night time. This will to avoid any unfortunate alcohol & heat related situations.
