Make Healthy Family Meals A Breeze

Sometimes the last thing that we want to do after a long day at work or running around after the little ones is to spend hours in the kitchen cooking. In fact, it can be very tempting indeed to reach for those takeout menus and choose less than healthy choices. However, you will be pleased to discover that it is possible to whip up some wholesome options with only minimal effort. A topic you can find out more about in the post below.

Do meal prep ahead of time.

Meal prepping is one of the most effective ways to make cooking healthy dishes for your family easier. In fact, the idea here is that you take a little time at the weekend to do all the prep work such as chopping vegetables, marinating meats, and the like. Then you put the uncooked meals in the freezer. A tactic that allows you to remove one each day to defrost and means you have a speedy but healthy meal to cook when you get home.

You can even make multiples of the same meal, and prep for an entire month. Something that means you will save masses of time, while still making sure that the food you serve is as healthy as possible.

Do go for single pan meals.

Another option is to go for single pan meals. In fact, there are several ways of doing this, including investing in a slow cooker and letting your dishes bubble all day.

Alternatively, cooking the entirety of your dish on a single sheet pan can greatly simplify cooking healthy family dishes. In fact, the great thing about the single sheet pan method is that there is a vast range of recipes that you can make. From a meal like these Italian veggies, oven roasted along with some chicken breasts. To lemon salmon, asparagus, and sweet potato for the whole family.

Of course, the benefits of the sheet pan method are that everything cooks together at the same time, and you have very little washing up to deal with once the meal is over. Something that can definitely help to make the entire process of cooking a lot easier to manage.

Don’t fall into the trap of cooking a different dish for each family member.

Finally, when it comes to making healthy meals easy, remember that cooking a different dish for every family member is a big no-no. In fact, doing so can take more time, cost more, and even stop you all sitting down to eat together as well.

With that in mind, be sure to make it clear to everyone that they all get one choice for a home-cooked meal a week. The understanding is that each family member then has to eat everyone else’s choice on the other days without complaint.

Of course, you can expect a little resistance to this in the beginning. Although, you can minimize this by taking some time to create a list of meals that everyone likes to pick from. In fact, doing so will be well worth the effort, due to all the time you will save in the long run.
