Get Excited About Turkey Day with These Fun Books for Kids from Simon & Schuster (Review)

Disclosure: I was sent review copies from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.

Turkey day is almost here...only 20 more days.  Eeek!  There is still so much I have to plan and prep for our family dinner.  Doesn't it seem that once kids return back to school in September that the months just zip by?  And, before you know it, kids will be counting down the days until Santa's arrival.  But, before we all start thinking about Christmas, let's not overlook another wonderful holiday which brings many families and friends together...Thanksgiving.  I wanted to share a handful of new books released by Simon & Schuster to welcome in Thanksgiving with your kids. I love reading to my girls, even though they can read on their own, and we really enjoyed the following Thanksgiving-inspired books, especially the first one from the Nancy Drew Club Book series.  I hope this short list gives you some suggestions for books to share with your kids...

About this Book:

"Nancy and her friends search for a missing chocolate turkey in the twelfth book in the interactive Nancy Drew Clue Book mystery series.

Nancy, Bess, and George are running in River Heights’s Turkey Trot this year and Bess has designed some super cute turkey-inspired outfits for them to wear. They’re hoping to win the costume contest and receive the winning prize, a giant chocolate turkey from Classy Coco, the new fancy chocolate shop in town.

But when the chocolate turkey goes missing the morning of the race, Anna Epicure blames the Turkey Trot runners and bans kids from her shop…forever!

Can the Clue Crew solve the mystery of missing chocolate and clear the trotters’ names? Or will the confectionery conundrum leave these three smarties stumped?"

My Thoughts:

My girls picked up a few Nancy Drew Clue Books from the library to read last month, and got hooked. With this new addition #12, there are currently 12 books to this chapter book series for kids.  I saw that #13 and #14 will be released at the start of the new year. My oldest is super excited about the #13 release as it's about dogs, which she loves.  While the girls wait for the forthcoming Nancy Drew Clue Books to be released, they have been enjoying this new release, which is all about the annual Thanksgiving-themed River Heights' Turkey Trot race, and the case of the missing chocolate turkey prize that goes to the winner.  Don't worry, I will not spoil the ending to this book.  What I will say, though, is that my girls thoroughly enjoyed piecing together the clues and narrowing down the suspects to figure out what happened to the chocolate turkey. With Nancy be able to solve this mystery in time?  You will just have to pick up this book and read it with your kids to find out.  My girls love cracking these fun cases alongside, Nancy, Bees and George, and I know your kids will, too!

About this Book:

"Snoopy enjoys a feast in this special Level 2 Ready-to-Read that’s perfect for every Peanuts fan!

This paperback edition comes with two pages of stickers!"

My Thoughts:

It isn't Thanksgiving in our house until we watch A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.  Usually we will watch this classic movie a few nights before Thanksgiving to get excited about turkey day.  Then, on Thanksgiving evening we with gather in our living room with family who has come for dinner earlier in the day, and watch it on television.  This year, I plan to read this cute picture book to my girls leading up to Thanksgiving. We read it the other night and the girls loved it!  It features all your favorite Peanuts characters as they get ready for Thanksgiving. Snoopy writes a letter telling what he is thankful for.  And, when he is done he is hungry and eagerly awaits Charlie Brown's arrival with dinner. But, Charlie doesn't come, so he goes to the house to look for him and demand his food.  Charlie Brown tells him it isn't dinner yet, so Snoopy heads back to his doghouse to wait.  Before he is ready to give up on waiting, Charlie Brown tells him it is dinnertime, and to bring his bowl. He goes in the house to find Charlie Brown and his friends have prepared all of Snoopy's favorite foods to enjoy with him.  They eat and dance around and enjoy each others company.  Isn't that what Thanksgiving is all about -- giving thanks and enjoying a good meal and quality time with those you love?    This is really a cute story, and a must read for Peanuts fans.  We will definitely be reading this book at Thanksgiving time for now on.

About this Book:

"Award-winning author Marilyn Singer opens up an entire world of imagination in only twenty-four rhyming words in this Pre-Level 1 Ready-to-Read about how animals eat!

Come see animals of all different kinds enjoy a picnic in this delightful story that beginning readers will love reading again and again. See how a frog “gulps,” a shark “gobbles,” a chicken “pecks,” and more. And don’t miss the fun surprise at the end!

This story features only twenty-four rhyming words and comes with a pronunciation guide!"

My Thoughts:

This book is perfect for kids ages 3-5 years old who are starting to learn how to read or recognize common sight words.  My girls are way past this, but still had fun reading through the book and admiring the colorful illustrations.  I like how this book comes with a pronunciation guide at the front of the book so that parents can read through the words with their little ones, and help them sound them out.  Then you can dive right in flipping through each page reading the new words they have learned.

My Thoughts:

I really enjoyed reading this quick board book with my girls, as it was a nice remember for them to hear that they are special and should embrace this.  Also, if your kids help with saying grace at Thanksgiving or you around the table and say what you are grateful for, this book will give kids ideas of things to say, as it will share things we all are grateful for day in and day out.
