Get Everyone Together and Go for the Gold with Mario & Sonic! The New Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 for Nintendo Switch Available Now! (Review)

Disclosure: I was sent a game code to try out this new Nintendo Switch game from the vendor, in exchange for an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.

Yesterday was big day for SEGA as they released the much anticipated Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 for the Nintendo Switch (the arcade version will release in 2020).  Thanks to the kind folks at SEGA, I was sent a download code in advance of the game's release, to try out the game firsthand with my family.  And, boy, have we been having playing this game!  When I was a kid I was all about the Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog video games, and loved playing them with my two older brothers.  We would save up on your allowance money and pool it together to get new video game releases, and then would hole ourselves up in the living room playing the game until we won.  Ah, the good 'ole days!  While those were some great childhood memories, I am making so many new ones with my two girls, as they are all about video games, and love Mario and Sonic.  Both of my girls had been eagerly awaiting the release of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 when they heard about it earlier this year.  My youngest daughter even had it on her birthday wish list hoping to get it for her birthday this Sunday.  So, it was a fun surprise for both of my girls when I showed them we had the game in advance of its release to try out.

Before I share more about what my family thought of the new Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 which is available now for the Nintendo Switch, here is more about this new game, which would make for a great gift idea this holiday season for Nintendo Switch owners:

As mentioned above, the folks at SEGA sent me a code to download the game in advance of its release yesterday, and my family has been enjoying the new Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 for the past week. While some video game fans may be looking for Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 to bring a new spin of this classic series, I was happy to have ti set up with the events and sport-themed mini games.  The story mode is always great, as I could sit and watch all the graphic detailing of video games over playing them.  Sometimes the back story is even more interesting and fun to watch than sitting and playing the game.  And, I remember back when I was younger I would try and win the game just to watch the mini movie at the end.  The mini movies at the end were always a great prize for winning all the difficult levels.

As the title suggests, this new Nintendo Switch game is all about Mario and friends competing in the 2020 Olympic Games.  My girls really got into the mini games, and loved the new Dream Events, which are always fun to play with these game releases.

You can play this game on your own or with up to 4 players in the split-screen multi player mode on one switch.  In regards to controllers, we found it easier to use the single Joy-Con or pair of Joy-Cons when playing in multi-player mode.  You can also enjoy this game in handheld, or TV mode, too, which makes this game fun playing at home and on the go.

Overall, my family really enjoyed the new Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games: Tokyo 2020.  My girls are 8 and 9 years old and were able to play the mini games, without getting frustrated with how to control their characters and play the games.

When asked how they would rate this game, both girls were quick to give it two thumbs up, and I couldn't agree with them more!  With the holidays fast approaching, why not consider picking up this new Nintendo Switch for your children, or even buy for yourself.  This is one game you will not get bored with, and want to play time and time again.
