Check Out These New DVD and Blu-Ray Releases from Mill Creek Entertainment (Review)

Disclosure: I was sent review copies from the vendor in exchange for an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.

Now that it is getting colder and it is darker earlier in the evenings, we have found ourselves doing family movie nights throughout the week. There is nothing better than snuggling up under a warm blanket, and watching a good movie together.  And, when the girls are in bed, my husband and I have been catching up on some new and recent DVD and Blu-rays sent my way from Mill Creek Entertainment.  Below are some of the new and recent releases that are sure to delight families come family movie night, as well as entertain you and your sweetie for your in-home date nights or when you find yourself with nothing to watch on television or streaming.

"This five-part documentary series will examine how police departments not only protect the public, but also reach out in the most surprising ways.  From stories of heroism to the outreach programs that make up the PAL system, to the awards and certificate bestowed upon the diverse infrastructure that makes up our ever-changing police force, the viewer will get a deeper understanding about the "Heroes In Blue""
  • An original documentary series that combines the elements of true crime with behind-the-scenes investigations
  • Up-close and personal accounts from current and retired police officers.

My Thoughts:

I have always fan of criminal justice documentaries and shows as my father was a police officer in the Boston area for over 27 years, while I was growing up.  He always seemed to bring his work home with him, and would always watch "cop" shows and documentaries on television. And, to spend time with him, I would sit and watch these with him.  I found myself getting hooked on them, and always love a good criminal justice show/series or documentary. With that being said, I was excited to check out "Heroes in Blue" which is a new 5-part documentary series available on DVD and Digital.  This series gives an in-depth look at what it is like to be a police officer through personal accounts that show their bravery and courage, in the line of duty.  This really is a great action-packed series, and the stories and interviews shared really do a great job at showing you what it is truly like to be a Los Angeles police officer, a member of the SWAT Team and even a 911 dispatcher.  If you love criminal justice series and documentaries, then you will definitely want to check out "Heroes in Blue".   I can't wait to share this new release with my father, as I know he will enjoy it, too!

"John Eriksson and his elite rescue task force, SAF3 (pronounced "safe"), are struggling to keep their program alive, all while continuing to perform daring rescues and risking their lives as part of the Malibu Fire Department."
Notable Cast/Crew:
  • Dolph Lundgren (Known for Aquaman, Creed II, Rocky IV, Gary Goddard's Masters of the Universe (1987), Showdown in Little Tokyo (1991), Blackjack (1998)
    • Lundgren has also continued to turning in memorable performances as the main adversary to other action-stars, most notably in Universal Soldier (1992) opposite Jean-Claude Van Damme, as well as Robert Longo's Johnny Mnemonic (1995))
  • J.R. Martinez (Known for All My Children, Saf3 & Winner of Season 13 Dancing with the Stars)
  • Texas Battle (Known for Bold & the Beautiful, Final Destination 3, & The Bernie Mac Show)
  • Katie Meehan (Known for Saf3)

My Thoughts:

I will always think of Dolph Lundgren as the man who fought Rocky in Rocky IV.  But, Lundgren has also starred in many more movies over the years, including SAF3 2 Under Pressure, which I had the pleasure of watching the other night with my husband as our date night flick.  My husband is big into rescue task force movies, and was excited to see this movie in particular.

From start to end, this movie was filled with action-packed scenes, that had both of us sitting up and on the edge of our seats, waiting to see what happened next.  It was a little surreal watching this movie while thinking about the Getty fires and other fires ravaging California right now.  But, it also was a great movie to show the types of people in addition to fire fighters, to help during these catastrophic forest fires.  If you love Dolph Lundgren and are in the mood for a good action-packed movie, then I highly recommend SAF3 2 Under Pressure.  We never saw the first SAF3 movie, but will now that we saw and loved this sequel to it.

"Citizens of Doom Valley are not human beings but cars, trucks, boats, scooters, and containers with strong human characteristics.
Doom Valley is being destroyed by criminals and environmentally unsound businesses, and it’s up to the few residents left in town to stay and fight back."
Key selling points:
  • Feature film adaptation from the successful Funny Little Cars TV series!
  • Teaches valuable life lessons in friendship, community and protecting the environment!

My Thoughts:

My girls love animated movies, and are always looking for a new movie to watch.  So, when my youngest daughter saw FUNNY LITTLE CARS: Adventures in the Little Oaza arrive in the mail the other day, she couldn't wait to watch it.  She ended up bringing it in the car and watching it on the way to a class. The movie is only 74 minutes in length, so is the perfect length for even the youngest of viewers to watch and stay engaged.    This movie reminded my two girls of the Cars movies, as well as the other talking vehicle animated series on television.  I listened to the movie as the girls were watching it, and loved how it shared valuable life lessons like friendship, community and protecting the environment.

When the movie ended, both of my girls started sharing their favorite parts of the movie, as well as their favorite characters. If you are looking for a cute movie for your little ones that will not only entertain, but also teach them valuable life lessons along the way, then you will want to check out FUNNY LITTLE CARS: Adventures in the Little Oaza on DVD today.

"Louisa May Alcott's classic coming-of-age story follows the childhood adventures of the four free-spirited March sisters: beautiful Meg (Trini Alvarado), fragile Beth (Claire Danes), romantic Amy (Kirsten Dunst) and impetuous Jo (Winona Ryder), who's determined to defy social conventions by seeking her fame and fortune as a writer.  As Jo chronicles the family's struggle during the war, their turbulent romances and their lasting friendship, her story unwraps a gift of humor and heartfelt emotions that no one - young or old, male or female - can resist.
“Alcott's sense, sensibility and sentiment find new life in this handcrafted valentine.” – David Ansen, Newsweek
MARIE ANTOINETTE
Academy Award® winner Sofia Coppola (2003, Best Writing, Lost In Translation) directs an electrifying yet intimate re-telling of the turbulent life of history's favorite villainess, Marie Antoinette. Kirsten Dunst portrays the ill-fated child princess who married France's young and indifferent King Louis XVI (Jason Schwartzman). Feeling isolated in a royal court rife with scandal and intrigue, Marie Antoinette defied both royalty and commoner by living like a rock star, which served only to seal her fate.

“Kirsten Dunst is pitch-perfect in the title role" – Roger Ebert"

My Thoughts:

I am not going to give an in-depth of these to movies, as you have probably seen them both a handful of times or more.  They have been around for awhile, and are always great to stumble upon while flipping through the channels for something to watch.  I did want to share, though, how you can now get these two movies on one Blu-ray as a double feature.  :-)  And, with the new Little Women movie coming out soon, this would be a great Blu-ray to pick up and share with your family, and compare how this Little Woman movie stacks up against the new one.  Right now, my girls and I are reading the Little Women book so that we can compare it to the movie when it comes out.  And, now that I have this double feature Blu-ray, I plan to watch the movie again with them, and have them compare this past Little Woman release to the book and then to the new movie, and see which one they like best, and how they are all similar and/or different.

If you are fan of Little Women or Marie Antoinette, starring Kirsten Durst, you will want to pick up this double feature Blu-ray release and have these two great movies on hand whenever you want to watch them.

Together They'll Steal A Fortune
"Oscar® winner Julia Roberts and Clive Owen star as two sexy spies-turned-corporate operatives in the midst of a clandestine love affair. When they find themselves on either side of an all-out corporate war, they'll put everything on the line to remain one double-cross ahead in a high-stakes game of cat-and-mouse. From writer/director Tony Gilroy (seven-time Oscar-nominated Michael Clayton) comes the film critics are raving about!
“Roberts and Owen have sizzling chemistry in this instant classic." - Lou Lumenick, New York Post"

My Thoughts:

This is another movie you have probably seen a handful of times, too!...so, I will not bore you with my thoughts on it.  I have lost count on how many times I have seen this movie as I am a huge Julia Roberts fan, and will usually do a double feature of her movies when sitting to watch them.  The other night I watched Duplicity followed by Erin Brockovich, to get my fix of this great actress.  I was excited to get this new Blu-ray release as my DVD copy of the movie has been watched so much that it has started to skip.  So, now I don't have to hope to stumble upon this movie on television as my DVD version no longer works.

Attitude...Meets Espionage.
Superstar Eddie Murphy (Netflix’s Dolemite Is My Name) teams up with Owen Wilson (Zoolander) for a hilarious, action packed thrill ride. Famke Janssen (X-Men, GoldenEye) also stars as an ultra sexy secret agent.
A super powerful experimental spy plane is stolen by an evil arms dealer and is about to be handed over to an international terrorist. The U.S. Government drafts an egotistical boxing star (Murphy) to join a suave special agent (Wilson) on a dangerous top secret mission to get the plane back. Armed with the latest high tech gadgets and a whole lot of attitude, this ultimate odd couple might be able to save the world- if they can just get along.

My Thoughts:
I really enjoyed the pairing of Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson in this spy movie. They are both two great comedic actors, and worked so well with each other.  The laughs just kept coming as my husband and I watched this movie the other night for the umpteenth time.  The movie never gets old, and always delights.  If you are looking for a fun, laugh out loud movie for an upcoming date night, I highly recommend I-Spy, available now on Blu-ray.

My Review:

My oldest daughter was so excited to receive this Triple Feature Pup Star DVD as she is a huge fan of this franchise.  If you follow my blog, then you have probably read a Pup Star movie review post along the way.  I have shared reviews for all four movies, including a Christmas one that is not included on this Triple Feature release.  If you missed a review, or want to see what all the hype around the Pup Star movies is, you can check out my past reviews of Pup Star: World Tour and the first Pup Star movie here:  https://www.inspiredbysavannah.com/2018/05/make-it-fun-family-movie-night-with-air.html and https://www.inspiredbysavannah.com/2016/08/air-bud-entertainments-pup-star.html.  You will see with these reviews and feedback from both of my girls, that these Pup Star movies are really fun to watch, and kids of all ages will love them, especially if they are dog/animals lovers.  I highly recommend this new Pup Star triple feature set, as you will have three of the best Pup Stars movies altogether, to enjoy at home and in the car for those upcoming long holiday car travels you may have planned.

"It takes a chimp to be a champ!
MVP: Most Valuable Primate – 2000 – Rated PG  Trailer
When Jack, a sign language-speaking chimp, is sold to a research lab, he makes a break for freedom – and ends up stranded in the frozen northlands. Befriended by two teens, Jack’s talent for ice skating soon turns him into the local hockey team’s secret weapon.
MVP 2: Most Vertical Primate – 2001 – Rated G  Trailer
Booted from his hockey team after being wrongly accused of league misconduct, Jack takes to the road. Along the way, Jack makes friends with a skateboarder Ben and a skate shop owner Ollie. It seems that Jack's hockey skills translate directly into tearing up the half pipe and popping sick grinds! "

My Thoughts:

Next to the Pup Star and Air Bud movies from Air Bud Entertainment, the MVP movies featuring a fun loving chip are my girls' next favorite kid-friendly movie to watch.  They have watched both MVP movies over a dozen times, and were excited to finally own them on one DVD and now on Digital, to watch as a fun double feature come family movie night.  If your kids love the MVP movies, or the Air Bud Entertainment movies in general, you will want to pick up this new MVP double feature for the whole family enjoy. This double feature DVD also makes for a great stocking stuffer idea, too!

The killing. The conviction. The cover-up.
James Woods is about to go up against corruption and conspiracy at the highest levels of New York City law enforcement in the action-packed courtroom drama, True Believer. Woods is spellbinding as Eddie Dodd, once an acclaimed civil rights attorney of the '60s, now an embittered cynic who makes a living defending drug-dealing low-lifes. Dodd's passion for justice is rekindled when an idealistic young associate (Robert Downey, Jr.) urges him to re-open an eight-year-old murder case involving a young prisoner serving life in Sing Sing for a gang initiation killing. Dodd's frenetic search for the truth takes him through a harrowing maze of unscrupulous prosecutors, white supremacist hate groups and corrupt cops. But is he willing to put his life on the line in defense of his beliefs? A powerful thriller, True Believer takes a piercing look at justice for all, from all sides of the American legal system.
My Thoughts:

I really like collecting these Retro VHS releases from Mill Creek Entertainment.  Not only are the releases of movies I love watched back in the 80's and 90's, but I really like the fun faux VHS look of the slip cover of these Blu-ray releases.  If you love collecting retro VHS releases then you will want to check out this new release, which features James Woods and Robert Downey, Jr..  I have lost count of how many times I have seen True Believer over the years...but, I am never bored when I sit and watch it.  It is a great drama/thriller and will have you seeing the different sides of the American legal system.
