Welcome in Fall with a Good Book: Travels with Sushi in the Land of the Mind, a New Children's Novel by Eduard Shyfrin (Review)

Disclosure: I was sent a review copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.

I was so excited to get my hands on this debut children's book by Eduard Shyfrin, as I wanted to share with my girls, and use as part of our homeschooling.  This book, which was originally intended for Shyfrin's grandchildren, is an introduction of "quantum physics and classic morality through vivid metaphors and a perilous adventure into an alternate dimension."  But, seeing how engaged and entertained his grandchildren were with his tales, the author decided to turn his tales into this lovely children's book, which is a must read, for kids of all ages.

While the topics of quantum physics and classic morality may seem too complex for kids, Shyfrin introduces this topics in a  fun and engaging way, thanks in part to the exquisite illustrations done by Tomislav Tomic.  Here are just a few of the illustrations you will find in this children's novel, that are simply stunning and filled with so much detail..

Amazing illustrations, right?  These illustrations paired with Shyfrin's stories make for an enjoyable and educational read for families.  My girls really enjoyed this book, and I like how the book was set up with chapters about intolerance, fear, pride, betrayal, and indifference.  When you start the book, you read about a challenge Aaron and Stella are given, and then the remaining chapters follow them on their journey to complete the task of rescuing the Book of Understanding, which contains the rules to live a good life, and returning it to the people. This is one of those books that it is best to read in parts, as not to overwhelm kids, especially younger ones.  My girls and I tackled a chapter at a time, and then would talk about what we read and emotions the girls felt while I read each chapter with them.

We hope that the author continues to release books like Travels with Sushi, so we can continue to journey and adventures with Aaron and Stella, characters in this book.

About this new book:

"“The children closed their eyes in order to enjoy the sensations more fully and when they opened them again the restaurant had vanished…”

Aaron and Stella spend every summer at their grandparents’ house, playing on the beach in the day, and eating sushi at night. One evening, the children try some special sushi which transports them to an alternate universe – The Land of the Mind, a place traditionally governed by maths and quantum physics, which is being taken over by evil and chaos.
With the many different areas in the Land of the Mind being ruled over by the Dark Lords of Intolerance, Fear, Pride, Indifference, Betrayal and Despair, the children are tasked with rescuing the Book of Understanding, which contains all the rules on how to live a good life.
Chosen because of their relationship to the Golden Ratio known as Phi (1.618), Aaron and Stella travel on a Phi-Flyer and are guided by a wise raven called Sophie (who is both a particle and a wave). The children must learn how to navigate the infinite dimensions of quantum physics to save the Land of the Mind from falling into the hands of chaos.
Travels with Sushi in the Land of the Mind is an atmospheric children’s novel by Eduard Shyfrin which introduces children to quantum physics and classic morality through an adventure in another universe. D. It has parallels with Alice in Wonderland, although the children in this book must face situations which are far more challenging and dangerous than Lewis Carroll had in mind. It’s a celebration of the power of words and the role of science, exquisitely illustrated by the talented Tomislav Tomic. Beautifully produced, Travels with Sushi makes a perfect gift, and is an educational, fun and imaginative debut novel."
