My oldest daughter has been looking for new series books to get into as she gears up for her summer reader.  While she loves chapter books, she also loves any books, including picture books that feature dogs.  So, when I stumbled upon the "Paris-Chien Adventures Picture Book Series by Jackie Clark Mancuso from IPG, I knew my daughter would love the books.  The kind folks at IPG sent along the following three titles, which make up the series to date, for us to review, and as soon as my two girls saw the books, they fell in love with Hudson, the cute American Terrier pup, who these Paris adventures are all about.

Here is more about the three fun picture books from the "Paris-Chien Adventures Picture Book Series by Jackie Clark Mancuso, which are geared towards children ages 5-7, but that can be enjoyed by younger and older fans, who are dog lovers, like my daughter (Heck, I even found myself enjoying these books, too!)...

About this Book:
"It's August! Hudson, like all Parisians, is going on vacation. And what better place than the enchanting south of France, where he discovers the country dogs have jobs. A believer in the "when in Rome, do as the Romans do" school of travel, Hudson immerses himself in Provençal culture. While this city dog is no good at herding sheep, truffle hunting and riding in the Tour de France, he eventually finds his true talent!."

About this Book:

"When Hudson, an adventurous Norwich terrier, moves to Paris, he loves the sights and smells. But when he tries to make friends, he discovers the Parisian dogs only speak French. Though initially disheartened, little Hudson's desire to make friends is so strong that he learns a new language. Paris-Chien strikes a universal chord as it shows how it feels to be the new kid in any situation. Gouache illustrations of markets, cafes, dogs, and parks make Paris come alive. French words appear in a petit dictionnaire at the end, so you'll even learn a little French."

As you can tell from the book synopsis' above, these picture books follows a dog named Hudson who moves to Paris and has to learn the language, while also trying to adjust to life in a new place, which also means making new friends.  Hudson goes on some wonderful adventures, and the illustrations in each of these picture books really help to bring each of the stories to life.  I liked how the author incorporated French terms in the books, as a way for young readers to learn a little French. My girls and I had fun trying to say the words and memorizing them so that we could learn French and add to our vocabulary thanks to these Paris-Chien books.

If you have ever moved and been the new kid in school, or have found yourself in a situation where you didn't know anyone and felt a little lost and out of place, then you fill find yourself relating to Hudson.  These picture books really do a good job as showing how you can adjust to new places and surrounding, make new friends and feel like you fit in.  We have never been to Paris, but based on the beautiful illustrations of Paris in these books, my girls and I really hope to make it there one day.  And, thanks to these cute picture books, we now have a basic knowledge of some French words, thanks to the petit dictionnaires at the end of each of the books, which will introduce you to words found in the story, and how to properly pronounce them.

We have only had these books for a few books, but they have already been read over a dozen times.  When we aren't reading these books together at bedtime, or the girls are pulling them off the shelf to read them on their own, I have found the girls pulling out white paper to draw Hudson and write new Paris adventures for him and his new friends to go on.  I love seeing my girls get creative and come up with fun new stories to share.  And, they are already asking if more books are available in the Paris-Chien series.  So far, these are the only three books, but I will definitely be keeping my eye for more books in this series from Jackie Clark Mancuso.  You can learn more about these books and the author by visiting her website here: http://jackiemancuso.com/.
