I was born and raised in the Boston area, so feel it is important to include many of the notable historical events like the Boston Tea Party, Paul Revere's Ride, and the Battle of Bunker Hill, when teaching my girls about history.  My girls learn best with hands on learning or being able to see things we are learning about firsthand.  So, being within driving distance to Boston, MA makes this upcoming summer the perfect time to take the girls on a Freedom Trail walk, to visit the historical cemeteries there to do tombstone rubbing, and take them to the Bunker Hill and the Boston Tea Party boat tour.  Prior to our visit to Boston, I will be sharing the full episodes from this DVD with them, along with different activities for them to follow along to make learning about the history of Boston that much more fun.

I always knew that being a teacher was a lot of work.  But, it wasn't until I started to homeschool my girls and put together their lesson plans and theme weeks that I saw just how time consuming it can be.  My girls need to be engaged because of their age, and can't just be handed a workbook and expected to learn.  So, I have to make things fun with arts and crafts, field trip and movies.  So, after hearing about the Liberty's Kids series from other homeschooling families and hearing them rave about the series, I had to see for myself.  I watched a handful of these episodes and found myself learning things I forget about history and could see why so many families, both homeschooling and those who just love sharing educational content with their kids, love this series.  The episodes make learning about history fun.  When I finally sat down and watched a few episodes with the girls, I loved seeing their eyes light up watching the fun history adventures.  They had no idea it was an educational series, but were able to absorb so much and loved talking about the Midnight Ride and New York, New York.  Now all Savannah talks about is going to to NYC for her birthday in July to see the Statue of Liberty and other sites of the city. :-)

Not only are the episodes fun and engaging for kids of all ages, but I also love that this special edition DVD collection includes a study guide and activities for you to use when teaching your children about different historical events.  It frees up a lot of my time in trying to put together a fun and comprehensive lesson plan, so that I can sit and truly enjoy this wonderful series with the girls, as they learn all about history.
