If you are looking for a cute family-friendly movie to watch with your family, have I got a movie for you. Have you seen or heard about Blinky Bill: The Movie?  I hadn't until I saw a trailer for the movie last month, and have been eagerly awaiting its arrival to DVD, Digital and 3D Blu-ray, which happened today. :-)

Before I go on about how great this movie was and how much everyone in our loved Blinky Bill, here is a little background on the movie, including the official trailer....

"Get ready to venture across the exotic Australian outback with the world-famous Australian koala Blinky Bill when the highly anticipated animated feature BLINKY BILL: THE MOVIE arrives on two-disc Blu-ray™ + DVD Combo Pack (with digital copy)DVDiTunes, and VOD  today from Shout! Factory Kids. The collectible Blu-ray+ DVD combo pack and DVD set come with bonus content, including music video, behind-the-scene interviews and featurettes!

Produced by Studio 100’s Sydney based animation studio, Flying Bark Productions, this fun-filled family movie boasts an all-star voice cast of Ryan Kwanten (True Blood), Rufus Sewell (The Man in High Castle), Toni Collette (Little Miss Sunshine), David Wenham (Lord Of The Rings), Richard Roxburgh (Moulin RougeMaya the Bee-Movie), Robin McLeavy (Hell on Wheels), Barry Otto(The Great Gatsby) and Barry Humphries (Absolutely Fabulous: The MovieFinding Nemo). With a stellar ensemble voice cast bringing to life these beloved characters and an all-Australian creative team translating the rugged beauty of the outback in stunning CG animation, BLINKY BILL: THE MOVIE offers an immersive cinematic adventure that brims with fun, frolic, humor and action. With the kind of universal appeal that reaches families and children, BLINKY BILL: THE MOVIE further explores universal themes including the importance of community, survival in harsh climate, the love between children and their parents, and ‘mateship’ – an Australian cultural idiom that embodies equality, loyalty and friendship.

Blinky Bill (voiced by Ryan Kwanten) is a little koala with a big imagination. An adventurer at heart, he dreams of leaving the little town of Green Patch and following in his missing father’s footsteps.  Mr. Bill went missing in the Outback some time ago and Blinky is the only one who believes his father is still alive.  When Blinky discovers a mysterious marker that hints at his dad’s whereabouts, he embarks on a journey that takes him beyond the boundary of Green Patch and into the wild and dangerous Outback. He quickly makes friends with Nutsy, a zoo koala, and Jacko, a nervous frill-necked lizard. Pursued relentlessly by a vengeful cat (voiced by Rufus Sewell) who has a personal score to settle with Blinky, the trio must learn to work together if they ever want to survive the rugged Australian landscape and find Blinky’s father!

Blinky Bill is one of Australia’s most recognized characters and a bona fide icon. The lovable antics of the mischievous koala have captured the hearts of millions since the release of The Adventures of Blinky Bill book series in 1933. In 1992, the first feature film Blinky Bill, The Mischievous Koala was released in major territories. This was followed by several successful TV series and movies which continue to air around the world today."

My Thoughts:

Doesn't this look and sound like a fun movie to share with your family?  We had family movie night with pizza the other night and this was the movie we saw.  The girls and my husband had not heard about it, and were reluctant at first to watch it.  But, after the movie started playing, everyone was glued to the television, as we rooted Blinky Bill on and hoped he found his dad who had gone missing.

Movies like these make me happy, as they not only are entertaining to watch, but also open up lines of communication with the girls to talk about what they learned or what lessons were trying to be conveyed with the story line.  In this movie, the girls were quick to pick up on the importance of friendship and loyalty.  They also talked about how Blinky Bill never gave up his search for his dad, even though others were not supportive of him.  This movie is all about the importance of family , and is perfect for a family movie night together.

We will definitely be watching this movie again, and I can't stop recommending it to family and friends looking for the perfect movie to share with their families.
