When I think of My Little Pony, this is usually what comes to mind...

But, way before the Equestria Girls movies and My Little Pony Friendship is Magic series on the HUB Network, there used to be clunkier looking ponies, which I and so many other little girls (and boys) would collect and play with.  Were you one of them?

I have to say that when I heard that Shout! Factory was releasing "My Little Pony: The Movie" on January 27th, I was excited.  Then, I noticed that this release was to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the movie.  This is when I felt old. :-)  Thirty years ago?!  I can still remember watching this movie as a kid with my neighborhood friends, as we dumped our pony collections out on the living room floor to play with, while watching this full-length MLP movie. Ah, the good 'ole days.

While I am a fan of the newer MLP movies and television series, I have to say that this original My Little Pony movie, which features the voices of Danny Devito, Rhea Perlman, Cloris Leachman, and Tony Randall, is my favorite of all the MLP movies out there.  This original movie didn't need big special effects or over the top musical numbers to draw fans in.  The storylines themselves were interesting and made MLP fans want to act out the scenes long after watching the movie.

My girls are used to watching the Equestria Girls movies and My Little Pony Friendship is Magic television series, but they were eager to check out this full-length movie, when I told them that this was the first ever MLP movie.  I have tried in the past to share other original MLP episodes with them, thanks to DVDs that the folks at Shout! Factory released.  But, they couldn't get into the show, as it just wasn't the same.  So, I wasn't expecting much when I put this movie on the other day.  But, they surprised me and sat through it all.  They even had me play the bonus sing along songs, which they can now sing along to.

While they prefer Equestria Girls over this movie, they did agree that this MLP was enjoyable to watch, and it was neat to be introduced to the ponies I grew up playing with and that I have passed down my MLP pony collection for them to play with.  And, after watching the movie the other day, we had a fun adventure playing with my childhood MLP collection, as well as their newer ponies.  I felt like a kid again, as I acted out scenes from the movie -- this time with my girls!  Ahh, making memories like these are so much fun, and ones I will cherish for years to come.

More about My Little Pony: The Movie (30th Anniversary Edition):

"The first day of Spring is on its way and the Little Ponies are preparing for it with a big festival. But all the fun may come to an end if the witch Hydia has her way! Can the Ponies defeat Hydia and her evil daughters, Reeka and Draggle? More importantly, can they save Ponyland from the witches’ concoction, the strange purple goo called Smooze, that’s threatening to bury the whole town?

With an all-star voice cast, including Danny DeVito, Madeline Kahn, Cloris Leachman, Rhea Perlman, Tony Randall and more, My Little Pony: The Movie is a rollicking adventure you’ll want to see again and again!"
