Protecting My Hair, Skin and Nails this Summr (and Year Round) with Products from Puritan's Pride -- Review and #Giveaway

Disclosure:  I was sent samples from the vendor in order to write up an honest review.  All views shared are mine and mine alone.

Back when I was a teen and in my early twenties, summers meant spending time outdoors with friends and soaking up the sun.  Did you put lemon juice in your hair to lighten it?   I sure did! And, then I would lay out in the sun with my girlfriends in the back yard, or at a friends house and try to get a color to my skin. But, with my French background on my mom's side and pale, white skin, I never tanned.  Instead, I would burn and be red -- not fun!  We never worried about protecting our skin from the harmful rays.  The darker your skin and the more highlights you had to your hair the better.

It wasn't until I was in my mid twenties that I started to take my health and skin regime seriously.  I never had to deal with acne during my teens, but found myself breaking out with adult acne, mainly due in part makeup and sweating more.  Because of this, I had to make sure I was taking care of my skin and hair.  If my hair was greasy, I would find myself getting breakouts on my back and forehead.  When I went to the dermatologist she suggested that I take vitamin supplements that were made specifically for hair and nail, and skin, in addition to washing my face just once a day.  This seemed to cure up my skin issues, so I continued it.

Then, when I had to undergo radiation for my cancer back in 2008, I had new issues to deal with.  Because I had head/neck cancer, the radiation was done from my shoulders to the top of my head.  I found myself dealing with a dryer scalp and dried out hair.  Also, the skin on my face also started to get dry and flaky.  As a result, I had to step it up when it came to protecting my hair, skin and even nails. The summer months with the heat and sun were especially challenging for me. But, after trial and error of different products, I can finally say that I found ones that work.  In addition to lathering up on the sunblock, wearing a hat to cover my head, I am also taking a a couple supplements from Puritan's Pride, in addition to using a Vitamin E hydrating cream for my skin and applying a Vitamin E Moisturizing stick to my lips.  What a world of difference these products have made.  And, seeing that the summer is here, this is the best time to test out these products and make sure that they really work at keeping my hair, skin and nails healthy.

Thanks to the folks at Puritan's Pride, I was sent the following products to try out, and have been doing so for the past month...

Usually I am not one that likes to take vitamin supplements as they are huge capsules and/or leave a funny taste in my mouth, but I didn't mind the Hair, Skin, & Nails Once per Day Formula and Hydrolyzed Collagen 1000 mg capsules. And, I could see a different a week in how my skin had a healthier glow to it, and my nails weren't brittle anymore.

I hate to say it, but in addition the grey hairs that are sticking around on my head, I am also finding wrinkles around my eyes and lip area.  I guess I can't hide that I am getting older, huh? :-)  With the help of the Hydrolyzed Collagen 1000 mg capsules, I am hoping to keep my skin firmer longer.  And, paired with the Organic Doctor® Vitamin E Super Hydrating Cream, the times when my skin starts to get dry from my past radiation treatment and exposure to the sun, the Organic Doctor® Vitamin E Super Hydrating Cream from Puritan's Pride offers just the right about of Vitamin E to hydrate my skin and make it looks and feel softer again. I also loved how "a little goes a long way" when applying this hydrating cream.  I dime sized drop my finger was able to cover my entire face.  So, I see the 50 ml cream jar going a long way. :-)

While I like the vitamin supplements and Vitamin E hydrating cream, I have to say that my favorite of all the products I was sent to review as the Vitamin E Moisturizing Stick.  I ended up picking up a couple more sticks, to leave on in the car, one in my handbag and have one at home.  Whenever I found myself getting dehydrated from the heat or from not drinking enough liquids, the first thing I notice is that my lips get dry and start to crack.  At the first sign of this, I simply apply the Vitamin E Moisturizing Stick, drink a glass of water, and begin to see my lips gets smoother again.  And, one those days I want to wear lip gloss or lipstick even, I love that I can use the Vitamin E Moisturizing Stick over or under these products.

Have you woken up and realized that you need to take better care of your skin, hair and nails, especially during the summer months?  Luckily, I smartened up and now make a point to keep products from Puritan's Pride on hand, to help me keep a radiant glow as a result of hydrated, firmer skin and hair that shines and feels healthy and not brittle.

  1. I am not sure which book or movie you are referring to. So, I'd have to say no, I've not read the book or seen the movie.
