Macy's Flower Show 2014 - The Secret Garden

Last weekend I took in the Macy's The Secret Garden event at the Macy's Downtown Boston location.  This was just one of many Macy's stores across the US that was hosting a "Secret Garden" event. The one in Boston started on Thursday, March 27 and ran through Saturday, March 29th, which was a Family Fun Day with events for the whole family to enjoy.

Not counting the times I have to go into Boston for my doctors' visits, I can't remember the last time I got to spend the day walking around Boston.  You would think that being from the Boston area that I would love to explore other areas.  But, I love Boston, as do many natives, and try to visit as often as I can. There is always something going on in Boston, or a new restaurant or shop opening that is worth checking out.  But, when you have little ones, a day trip to Boston can become too much, especially when they don't like to sit in strollers and can run faster than you. :-)

But, my parents offered to watch the girls for the day, so that my husband and I could head into Boston and I could cover the event.  It was like a long overdue vacation, even though we only went for a few hours.  To me, it was just enough time to regroup as a mom and enjoy the sites, sounds and tastes that make Boston so amazing. :-)

Here was the schedule for Macy's Downtown Boston "The Secret Garden" event last week...

Secret Garden Flourishes in Stores

"This season, Macy’s will take customers on a stroll through a lush and magical garden, with trends that fuse fantasy with fashion, and the designers who bring it to life. Floral pieces will be sprouting up in Macy’s stores and on macys.com, in the form of fit and flare dresses, classic shifts and sweet skirts. Colors abound across the fashion spectrum, featuring rich blues, pretty pinks and coral, along with accents of clean and crisp white. Ruffle details, lace, and floral appliques add a sweet touch to the season’s hottest looks. Shoppers will also find the garden experience in home, through vibrant floral bedding, dinnerware and serveware that will make entertaining even sunnier.
Garden-inspired merchandise comes from customers’ favorite brands available at Macy’s, including Bar III, Betsey Johnson, Charter Club, French Connection, I.N.C., Ivanka Trump, Jessica Simpson, MADE Fashion Week, Martha Stewart Collection, and Tommy Hilfiger."

I don't know about you, but my husband is always hungry. For someone who is constantly eating, I don't know how he keeps his slim figure. :-)  So, as soon as we parked the car, he needed to grab a bite to eat "if we were to walk around all day."  I was eager to see all the flower arrangements and spring wardrobe collections as Macy's, so we grabbed salads at one of our favorite downtown restaurants near the Boston Common.  We had to walk through the park to get to the restaurant, and then back through to get to Macy's, so I didn't feel guilty having a big lunch, which was warm.  If you have children, then you know moms have everyone else eat first before you sit down or stand to eat your meal. I was finally able to enjoy a warm meal for once, and it was a great start to our afternoon in Boston.

When we arrived at Macy's, we were greeted by one of a handful of floral arrangements made form local florists.  And, as we walked through the store, you could spell these freshly cut flowers.  Just look at the lovely arrangements patrons of Macy's got to enjoy during the "Secret Garden" event:

Stunning, huh?  I found myself lingering at each display, not only to take in the beauty of the flowers, but also because they smelled amazing, and got me excited for spring and flowers to be blooming in our garden real soon. :-)

After we admired the floral arrangements, my husband and I walked through the men's, women's and children's departments, taking in the new spring collections.  I shared on Facebook how if my husband wasn't with me, I would have bought one of everything the children's department.  Even though my girls are not fans of dresses, I couldn't help but admire the cute dresses for Easter and warmer weather.

Even though I stay home with the girls and rarely get out of my lounge clothes during the week, I enjoy dressing up weekend jeans with fun tops and accessories.  I don't have to worry about my youngest, Bella, pulling my earrings or necklaces anymore, so I have finally pulled out my jewelry box and started wearing sparkly jewelry again.  Although I am not fashionable during the week, I can't help but follow the style trends in magazines, on runway shows on television or style watching when out and about on weekends.

With the recent NY Fashion Week coverage and all the magazines that I have been flipping through, I was in tune with what to expect for spring color trends and was happy to see that Macy's was, too.

While not a new trend, black and white combinations continue to pop up in every season's hot collections.  But, new this spring are icy pastels and hints of pink.  And, as I walked through the racks and displays at Macy's, these and other fun new colors for Spring 2014 were in full display.

Don't forget accessories when updating your spring wardrobe. A lot of a pinks and other pastels for earrings, bags and other accessories were front and center at Macy's.

Next to the flowers, I couldn't help but smile as I enjoyed perusing the racks and getting some ideas to ramp up my spring wardrobe.  I kept eyeing a few tops, which I ended up buying, along with a few outfits for the girls. :-)

It was nice to get out for the day without the kids and enjoy time in Boston.  And, what better way to spend time in Boston than checking out the new spring fashion at Macy's doing a little shopping of my own (which I rarely do) and enjoying beautiful flower arrangements.  To me, this was a perfect day!  I can't wait to do it again soon. :-)
