My Thoughts:

We all know Cher the singer and performer, but do you really know Cher the woman, mom, daughter, etc.?  I have always been fascinated with Cher, first as a lover of her music, and then for the strong, determined woman she portrays when the cameras are rolling.  But, I oftentimes wondered about her real personal life.  What skeletons in the closet and bumps in the road has Cher experienced in her lifetime?  Thanks to a documentary, titled, "Dear Mom, Love Cher," we are able to get a glimpse into the personal life of Cher, through in depth interviews with family members, including Georgia Holt, her daughters Cher and Georganne LaPiere Bartylak, and grandchildren Chaz Bono and Elijah Blue Allman.

Did you know that Cher's mother, Georgia Holt has a personal dream to become a singer?  Through ups and downs and six trying marriages, she pushed on in hopes to be a successful singer and actress.  Unfortunately, Georgia's dream would not be meant personally.  Instead, one of her two daughters, who the world knows as Cher, was able to live out her mother's dream, and become one of today's greatest singers and actresses.

I watched this movie the other night while taking turns rocking my daughters who kept getting up with congestion due to a head cold to sleep.  I found myself smiling or laughing one minute, and then tearing up the next.  You really see the true Cher, and it makes you appreciate her talents that much more, after hearing her back story.  And, as a special bonus, this documentary also includes a never-before-heard duet between Cher and her mother Georgia, along with other songs that Georgia Holt had taped years ago.  It was nice to see Cher help make her mother's dream of being a singer by re-mastering one of her mother's lost hits.  Ahh, tingles. :-)

If you love Cher, or just love documentaries or Lifetime Channel movies, then you will love "Dear Mom, Love Cher."  This movie can be watched alone or with your girlfriends.  Either way, you will enjoy it.  I will definitely be watching this touching documentary over and over again.
