Introducing Walmart's New Initiative -- Empowering Women Together #empowerwomen #spon

"Empowering Women Together"  ~ Another initiative in advancing Walmart’s 5-year commitment (through 2016) to global women’s economic empowerment, by sourcing $20 billion from women-owned businesses.

I have one more reason why I love shopping Walmart, and that is their new initiative to help improve the lives of women and their families worldwide called Empower Women Together.  As part of this new initiative, Walmart has set up an online store where you can browse and purchase unique handmade items from women-owned businesses in the USA and worldwide.  From apparel, jewelry and home decor products, you are bound to find just the right gift for that special someone to give for a birthday gift, Mother's Day, or just because.

If you follow my blog, then you know that I love showcasing women owned businesses in my weekly Spotlight on Mom feature.  And, now Walmart is showing their support for women-owned businesses by creating a one stop shop for you to browse and order products from women-owned businesses around the world. "At launch, Empowering Women Together will offer more than 200 items from 19 businesses in nine countries. Products include jewelry from Peru, Rwanda, Kenya and the U.S.; home accessories from Rwanda and Haiti; paper mache from Haiti, apparel and accessories from Rwanda; iPad and laptop cases from Cambodia and Nepal; coffee and tea sets sourced globally and made in America; and specialty foods made in America and Canada."

Here is just a sampling of some of the unique products that caught my eye from US-based women owned businesses:

And, for women-owned businesses outside the US, here is a sampling of what is available through Walmart's new Empowering Women Together online shop:

Beautiful, huh?  I think so.  And, from working with mom entrepreneurs over the past few years I can only imagine how great Walmart's new initiative is, in helping to get the word out about this business and products.  And, for women outside the US, this initiative is much needed, as it helps these women provide financially for their families by selling their handcrafted goods, thus ultimately building better lives for themselves and their family.  I don't know about you, but I am a fan of handmade products from artisans, especially moms and women-owned businesses.

Remember when I shared a review of a chili mix from the Women's Bean Project last year?  If you are not aware of the Women's Bean Project, here is a little bit about them -- The Women's Bean Project is a Denver-based organization which empowers previously unemployed and impoverished women, by employing them and teaching them on-the job training skills, thus allowing them to move to permanent employment in the computer and become self-sufficient.  Not only do they earn a pay check while learning on the job skills, but they build their self-esteem and self-respect.

So, make a point to check out the jewelry and gift sets offered by the Women's Bean Project when shopping Walmart's Empowering Women Together's online shop.  You will not be disappointed with the quality of these and other products offered through the Walmart site.  And, I bet the person receiving the gift, will love hearing the back story on how your purchase is helping to empower women all around the world, by selling their products and goods, to support themselves and their families.  When you share the story about Walmart's new initiative with the gift recipient, it will make the gift that much more precious. :-)
