Available on Blu-ray & DVD on September 11th -- October Baby (Review)

Synopsis

As the curtain rises, Hannah hesitantly steps onto the stage for her theatrical debut in college. Yet before she can utter her first lines, Hannah—unscripted—collapses in front of the stunned audience.

After countless medical tests, all signs point to one underlying factor: Hannah's difficult birth. This revelation is nothing compared to what she then learns from her parents: she was actually adopted … after a failed abortion attempt.

Bewildered, angered, and confused, Hannah turns for support to Jason, her oldest friend. Encouraged by his adventurous spirit, Hannah joins his group of friends on a Spring Break road trip, embarking on a journey to discover her hidden past … and find hope for her unknown future.

In the midst of her incredible journey, Hannah finds that life can be so much more than what you have planned.

My Thoughts:

Having been sick with a nasty head cold, I have been able to use my time resting in bed, while family helped take care of the girls, who were also sick, to catch up on films that were sent to me for review.  I received October Baby last week, but had been wanting to see it since I heard it was coming to DVD and saw the trailer.  This movie reminded me of the Hallmark Channel movie that I enjoy, and knowing that it was approved by the Dove Foundation, lets me know that it is a great family-friendly movie.  This coming of age film follows Hannah, who after a medical scare finds out that she is adopted.  Along with her close friends, she goes on a road trip to find herself and where she came from.

What I loved most about this movie is how it offers different perspectives of this failed abortion.  We hear from Hannah (the unplanned birth), the adoptive parents, the birth mom and a nurse who was in the room when the abortion was taking place.  Even though I don't have firsthand experience with adoption, I an only imagine how difficult it can be on all parties involved.  This film does a great is sharing the message of forgiveness and healing with God's help, as well as makes viewers consider the value of life and think about all the abortion survivors alive today and the journey they will face when they realize how they entered this world unplanned.  Anyone who watches it -- young or old; adoptive or not, will walk away with a new perspective on adoption and unplanned births.

If you are looking for a unique movie to watch, that will have you reaching for a box of tissues (like I had), then you will enjoy October Baby, releasing on DVD on September 11th.

Disclosure:  I was sent a copy of this film by the vendor in order to write up an honest review.  The views above are mine and mine alone.
