Linwoods (www.linwoodshealthfoods.com), offers delicious superfood blends from Ireland.  All with a flaxseed base, their 7 superfood varieties contain a variety of nutrient packed ingredients specially chosen to meet the needs of the modern diet, which can be lacking in many essential vitamins and minerals. Finely ground and great on everything from smoothies, salads and even in casseroles.  I was sent a sample of the ground organic flaxseed to try.  In the past I have tried other flaxseeds brands in the store, but ended up tossing the box as the flavor was not appealing, and I didn't see myself adding into meals and baking with.

Being a busy mom on the go, I am always looking for healthy ways to improve my overall diet and add fiber to my diet.  After receiving the 15 oz. package to try, I began to read about all the health benefits flaxseed offers including:

Linwoods Nutritious Super Foods provides an easy and convenient way to include a wide range of nutrients, vitamins and minerals in your diet for optimum health.

Omega 3, 6 & 9

Polyunsaturated fatty acids used by the body that may help maintain a healthy heart, healthy brain function and promote a healthy immune system. These are essential fatty acids as our body does not produce them and therefore they must be obtained through our food. Flaxseed is one of nature’s richest plant sources of Omega 3, with 7.2g of this essential fatty acid in every 30g/1oz serving.

Dietary Fibre

Our range of nutritious super foods contain Dietary Fibre - both soluble and insoluble. Insoluble Dietary Fibre aids digestion and helps maintain regularity and Soluble Dietary Fibre is absorbed by the body and helps maintain healthy cholesterol levels that are already within normal range and maintain blood sugar levels It is important to include a number of high fibre foods in our everyday diet. Cocoa contains Flavanols which are highly effective antioxidants that may help maintain a healthy heart and maintain efficient circulation throughout the body.

Antioxidants

The Antioxidants found in Linwoods nutritious super foods help to maintain cell integrity within the body. The Antioxidant Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that helps boost the immune system and maintain healthy hair, skin and nails.
Just one serving (30g/1oz) of this delicious mix gives you the same antioxidants as all this fruit and veg combined!

Weight Management

Dietary Fibre may help in maintaining a healthy body weight and normal blood sugar levels. As seeds and nuts are LOW GI (Low Glycemic Index), they release energy slower in to the body and therefore keep hunger at bay for longer.

Iron

Many of Linwoods nutritious super foods are a good source of Iron. Iron is an essential part of haemoglobin – the part of the red blood cells that carry oxygen around the body and is therefore necessary for energy. When we are low in Iron we are low in energy, so it is important to include this valuable mineral in our diet. Iron is also necessary for  the reproduction of red blood cells.

Zinc

Supports the immune system and may protect the body’s cells and tissues. Flaxseed, Sunflower & Pumpkin seeds are good sources of Zinc.

Vitamin E

A powerful antioxidant that helps boost the immune system and maintain healthy hair, skin and nails.

Protein

Important for the growth of muscles, bones and skin.

Magnesium

Supports healthy bones, muscles and nerve function and important for energy metabolism. Hemp is an excellent source of Magnesium with 35% RDI per 30g/1oz serving.

Selenium

Supports the normal function of the immune system and may protect cells and tissues from oxidative damage. Linwoods Flaxseed, Cocoa, Strawberries & Blueberries product is an excellent source of Selenium with 25% of your RDI in one 30g/1oz serving.

B Vitamins

These are water soluble vitamins, meaning they are quickly depleted in the body and must be replaced regularly. Complex B vitamins can maintain healthy body metabolism by assisting in breaking carbohydrates down into glucose and converting glucose to energy. They can also maintain healthy heart function (Vitamin B1) and the normal functioning of the nervous system (Vitamin B12). Vitamin B deficiency can lead to decreased energy production, lethargy and fatigue.

Our Flaxseed, Sunflower, Pumpkin, Sesame & Goji Berry mix plus our Flaxseed, Almonds, Brazil Nuts, Walnuts & Co-Q10 packs are good sources of Complex B Vitamins.

Co-Enzyme Q10

Co-Q10 occurs naturally in the body but natural production declines with age so dietary sources are important to help maintain adequate levels. It is one of the most important nutrients that your body requires as it contributes to the production of energy in every cell in the body and improves  the way the body functions It is also a highly effect antioxidant.

Most commonly recognized as a supplement in tablet form and also as an ingredient in some cosmetic products, Linwoods are now adding this to a flaxseed, almonds, brazil nuts and walnuts  & Co-Q10 mix; making it easier and more convenient for you to get a daily intake of C0-Q10 in your diet.

I was surprised that ground flaxseed could do so much.  I first tried it out in my morning yogurt.  At first I thought it would have a strong or unpleasant flavor, but I really couldn't taste anything.  As the week went on, I continued to add it to oatmeal, in smoothies, and when I made blueberry muffins.  With each and every meal, I didn't notice that flaxseed was added.  And, there wasn't a lingering aftertaste, like I had experienced with other brands.  Overall, my experience with Linwoods was great.  And, I can't wait to try their over varieties, including flaxseed and goji berries.
