Feature Friday -- I'm a Manatee Happy to Be Me!, by Leslie Campa - This Week's Spotlight Mom (Review and Giveaway)

This past Monday, I spotlighted the author of I'm a Manatee Happy to Be Me!, Leslie Campa.  Click here if you missed my interview with Leslie.  Today, I wanted to share more about her book, and offer one reader a chance to win an autographed copy of this book.

I love reading to my daughters, and make a point to read to them in the afternoon before nap time, and then right before bedtime.  The girls, as do I, look forward to this bonding time, which is also helping to build Savannah's vocabulary, and a love of books for both of them.  So, when I was sent a copy of Leslie's book, I'm a Manatee Happy to Be Me!, I couldn't wait to share it with them, and see their reactions.  Even though they are too young to really understand the moral and overall story being read to them, both Savannah and Arabella thoroughly enjoy looking at the illustrations.  Because I know they stare intently at the illustrations, I make a point to talk about what they are looking and how it relates to the books.

I love when I read a book a second or third time, and Savannah will point to an illustration and tell me about it -- even if she is just using a few words.  This lets me know that she is comprehending what I had talked to her previously about.  You should see how proud she feels when she is telling me about the illustration, as if she is reading to me.

So, what is Leslie's book about?  It teaches children about individuality, by introducing us to a Manatee, who doesn't look like others.  Even though he is different, he is happy to be special.  After he introduces himself to your child, he asks your child how they are unique.  Her book does an amazing job at getting children involved in the story, and helping them see and share their unique traits with you as you read along with them.

Are you looking for a fun book to share with your child as part of their summer reading list?  Why not pick up a copy of Leslie's book to share with them.  My girls and I love reading this book, and can't wait to hear what you and yours think of it.
