"A beautiful story that proves sometimes falling in love is a matter of faith. Becky Wade creates characters readers will love."
--Lisa Wingate, national bestselling author of Blue Moon Bay and Dandelion Summer

Kate Donovan is burned out on work, worn down by her dating relationships, and in need of an adventure. When her grandmother asks her to accompany her to Redbud, Pennsylvania, to restore the grand old house she grew up in, Kate jumps at the chance.

Upon her arrival in Redbud, Kate meets Matt Jarreau, the man hired to renovate the house. Kate can't help being attracted to him, drawn by both his good looks and something else she can't quite put her finger on. He's clearly wounded--hiding from people, from God, and from his past. Yet Kate sets her stubborn heart on bringing him out of the dark and back into the light... whether he likes it or not.

When the stilted, uncomfortable interactions between Kate and Matt slowly shift into something more, is God finally answering the longing of her heart? Or will Kate be required to give up more than she ever dreamed?

My Thoughts:

I am not usually one to pick up a romance novel, but after reading the synopsis and so many positive reviews on this book, I thought I would try it out and see what everyone was talking about. Within the first 10 minutes, I was hooked and couldn't put the book down.  I think what grabbed me and pulled me in was the way in which the author, Becky Wade, portrayed the characters,  Even though Kate and Matt were down on their luck per se, and looking for a break, they end up finding love together.  This story contains both drama and comedy, that will have you feeling bad one minute, but laughing the next.

As I read this novel, I found myself wishing Kate would find happiness.  Her character is the type of person you would want to be friends with.  I found myself quickly reading the pages, to see what happens next, as I internally rooted for her.  This was a different feeling for me, when reading this book, as I am more used to reading memoirs, or other non-fiction books.  But, Becky Wade draws you in with her storytelling abilities, and makes it hard for you to put the book down.  This was the first book I read cover to cover in a day.  Yes, you read that right.  I ended up staying up this past Saturday, just to finish it.

So, what happens in the end?  Do Kate and Matt live happily ever after, or do their stubborn hearts get the best of them?  I am not going to spoil it.  You will just have to pick up a copy of this book and read it for yourself.  I can't wait to read additional books from Becky Wade, and will definitely give romantic comedy type novels a chance from now on. :-)

If you are looking for a great book to bring to the beach, or just to cuddle up on the couch and read this summer, why not give My Stubborn Heart by Becky Wade a chance?  And, if you choose to include in your book club, there are discussion questions in the back of the book, that you can use with your group.
