A Must Download Holiday App—The Night Before Christmas–An Interactive Storybook the Whole Family Will Enjoy Reading Together

I recently downloaded Peter Yarrow’s new “Night Before Christmas” app, based on his holiday picture book, and my daughter and I can’t stop playing with it.  I have to say that it is one of the best apps I have downloaded in a long time.

As Peter (of Peter Paul & Mary) explains,

The “app” has emerged from  the illustrated book with last recording by Mary Travers, a narration of Clement Moore’s classic poem, recorded 5 months before she passed over two years ago this past September 16. For this reason, the book and its “app” are extra special to me, of course, as memories of days past flood this holiday season.
The book is a beautifully illustrated version of The Night Before Christmas, and the “app” is a delightful game of sorts for children to play with, and to learn the poem and also learn to read it.

This is an interactive, musical re-telling of the all-time favorite holiday tale by Clement C. Moore, with magnificent illustrations by Eric Puybaret; narration, music and sounds by Peter Paul and Mary, and interactive magic added by Touchoo.

Just look at one of the amazing illustrations included in this interactive storybook app:

When you begin the app, you can personalize it with your child’s name, and then choose to have the book read to you, or you can read it out loud with your child.  At first, my daughter and I chose the read-along version, as we were eager to see what fun was waiting for us, with each turn of the page.  And, boy were we impressed.  I loved how the items that you could interact with would have a flashing circle around them.  This made it easier for my daughter to know where to tab on the iPad screen.  And, each time she tapped on a object and it moved or made noise, she smiled from ear to ear.

Who doesn’t like the holiday classic, The Night Before Christmas?”  Growing up, our family tradition was to watch It’s A Wonderful Life on television and then finish up by reading The Night Before Christmas together.  And, since moving out, marrying and starting a family of my own, I have continued this tradition.  But, this year, instead of reading the book, I will try something new and use the app, while my husband and I snuggle in bed with our two girls.

If you love apps, especially holiday ones, or love interactive storybooks, this app is a must download.  With the colorful illustrations, accompanied by holiday music, your family will enjoy interacting with this storybook app as Christmas Eve approaches.  Kids will definitely get a kick out of clicking on each page’s highlighted objects to see what they will do.

So, what are you waiting for?  Head on over to iTunes today and download this app before Christmas flies by.
