Children’s Book Review–The Crown on Your Head by Nancy Tillman

My Thoughts:

"On the day that we met and I put you to bed, I noticed a crown on the top of your head.

It was made up of sparkling, glimmering things like moonlight and fireflies, and dragonfly wings"

I have been a fan of author, Nancy Tillman’s since I read On the Night You Were Born, and couldn’t hold back the tears.  This book was even ore meaningful, as daughter, Savannah (who is now 16 months) was considered a “miracle baby,” as doctors didn’t think that I would be able to have children after my radiation and chemotherapy treatment for cancer back in 2008.  Through a miracle, we were blessed with her in July 2010.  And, then back on 11/10 of this year, we welcomed our second daughter, Arabella.  I cherish each day I have with my two beautiful daughters, and love to pencil out time each day either in the afternoon or evening to read to them individually and together.  While my daughter, Savannah is into Sesame Street and Elmo books for her one-on-one time, I make a point to read an inspirational story to her at bedtime, and usually she chooses one of Nancy’s books from her bookcase.

Nancy kindly sent me a copy of her new book, Crown on Your Head, and I have to say it is as good as her other books.  I can’t get over the illustrations in each of Nancy’s books.  They really tie in beautiful with the text/story.  And, as a reader, you could spend an hour or more just looking at and admiring the illustrations and the fine detailing of each.

I love the message of this story – that each child is MAGNIFICENT.  What a positive message to share with them, and show them how much you love and care for them.  I let my little girls know this each day.  I will continue to share books by author’s like Nancy Tillman, which show them that they are special and unique and that not only do I cherish these qualities in them, but that they, too, believe in themselves and their ability to be anything they want to be, and accomplish anything that is put in front of them.  Positive reinforcement is key to raising happy children, and thanks to books like this, my children will know how GRAND they are.
