Children's Music CD Review: Groove Kid Nation's, Kool Katz: Music in Motion -- The Groovy Way to Learn About Musical Instruments

I recently had the opportunity to try out and listen to Groove Kid Nation's second album released, Kool Katz:  Music in Motion.  The purpose of this CD is to teach children about musical instruments in a fun way through catchy kids songs.  I have to say, after listening to it over the weekend with Savannah, I even found myself singing along to the songs and learning a thing or two.  Savannah loved the beat and music and spent the afternoon dancing around the living room with me.  We had such a great time, and I know that down the road when she gets a little bigger, she will find learning about musical instruments fun, while listening to this CD.

Just look at the track titles available on this CD:

1) Kool Katz
2) Itch and Scratch
3) Go Kat Go
4) Funky Chicken -- Savannah went crazy with this song!
5) Fast and Slow
6) 4 Little Kittens
7) Get UP, Get Down, Get Funky, Get Loose  --- This was a favorite of both Savannah and I.
8) Humpty Dumpty -- You will find yourself singing along to this!
9) I've Been Playing in a Soul Band
10) Play on it

If you are wondering how each of these songs sound, click here to hear a sampling now.  Catchy, huh?

More about Kool Katz: Music in Motion:

Music in Motion continues off of the success of the critically acclaimed first release, The Wheels on the Bus. This time around, Lee and his team of top L.A. musicians recorded an album designed to get children moving to the beat while simultaneously learning about musical concepts and instruments.

Through groovy soul tracks, this mostly original set draws kids into the action with specific instructions on what to do from funny dances, to playing air guitar, to responding to musical cues, to simply nodding their heads to the beat.

An entirely new band of feline characters known as the Kool Katz guide the fun, and the enclosed 10-page booklet features colorful illustrations of each Kool Kat playing their own instrument.

Ten percent of the wholesale price of Music In Motion will be donated to CARE, a leading humanitarian organization fighting poverty.

About Groove Kid Nation:

Groove Kid Nation is an educational children's music label whose goal is to introduce toddlers to the sound of real musical instruments.

The importance of music in early childhood development is well documented, and the Groove Kid Nation series tracks my efforts to create age appropriate music educational tools for my son (now age 3).

Imagine the Itsy Bitsy Spider as a groovy piano player (see video below) or the Three Blind Mice as a trio of guitar, bass and drums...

On the debut release The Wheels on the Bus, the instruments are introduced through familiar kids songs recast as funky soul foot-stompers -- guaranteed to not drive parents crazy with repeated listening!

On the second release Music in Motion, an entirely new band of feline characters known as the the Kool Katz guide the fun. This mostly original set of funky kids songs is all about getting children to interact with the music by drawing them into the action.

Each CD includes a 10-page illustrated booklet that features the various characters from the songs playing their own instruments.

In addition, all instruments and vocals are performed by top L.A. musicians.

I hope you and your children have as much fun listening to this music as we had creating it!

And stay tuned for more recordings...

Musically Yours,
Rodney Lee
