Spotlight on Mommy -- Tamar Rosenthal of Dapple Baby

This week's Spotlight Mommy is Tamar Rosenthal of Dapple Baby.  Along with Dana Rubinstein, Tamar came up with a great green cleaning baby product line.  I have had the opportunity to try out some of the Dapple Baby products, and I can't stop raving about how great they are.  I especially love their toy wipes.  I don't go anywhere without their handy toy wipes package.  And, now that Savannah is putting toys in her mouth and dropping and picking up items, I can't live without the toy wipes.  If you haven't seen or heard about the Dapple Baby cleaning line, click here to learn more.  Stop back on Friday when I will review the Dapple Baby products in details that I have personally tried, and will be offering one lucky Inspired by Savannah reader a chance to win a set of Dapple Baby products for themselves.

And, now here is my interview with Tamar Rosenthal of Dapple Baby.  Enjoy!

Tell us a little bit about yourself.  How many children do you have?  What are their ages? Your hobbies? Etc.:
I have three kids whose messes inspired the creation of Dapple.  Yvee is 7, Sam is 6, and Sima is 3 so it’s definitely a challenge balancing work and family life, but spending time with my family is my #1 priority. In the spare time that I do have, I love to ski. I also love giving back to the community by working with charities that are near and dear to me.

What is a typical work day like?
Well, there is no TYPICAL day but every day is beyond busy. I usually wake up around 6 AM to fit in time for myself at the gym, then it’s off to the races – getting kids ready for school, catching up on emails, then heading to Dapple headquarters for day. After a long day it’s time to head home for dinner, homework, getting the kids ready for bed and FINALLY…sleep. Boy am I pooped!

What has been a struggle while starting up your company?

Finding a healthy work-life balance. I stay grounded by constantly reminding myself that my kids and my family are the whole reason this company even exists! The transition from full time student and mom to business owner isn’t easy. It really helps to knowing we’re doing something that we truly believe can make a difference in households everywhere.

What did you do in your past work life?

I was a master’s student at NYU studying Public Administration. What a change!

What have been some of your major successes?

Being chosen from among 5000 women owned businesses to win a prestigious entrepreneurship award from Yahoo!, launching our products nationwide and appearing on the TODAY Show.

What have been some of your major challenges?

Getting the “Dapple message” out there about the importance of making cleaning safe and green for both our kids, and for the environment. That message is our number one priority, and our children’s health shouldn’t be sacrificed for anything.

On those impossible days, what motivates you to keep going?

My husband and my wonderful kids.

What is your balancing secret in managing a business and family?

Loving what I do.

What is next for your business?

We have lots of new and exciting products coming down the pike and hope to reach even more parents with our message of the importance of creating a toxin-free environment for children.  Please help us spread the word!
