SunnyBump -- A New Social Community for Parents to Help Find Must Have Items for Your Little Ones

Since becoming a parent in 2010, and then again in 2011, I have quickly learned that you have to do your research when it comes to finding baby and toddler must haves.  With all the products on the market, you can't help but get overwhelmed when searching for things like baby gear, car seats, feeding supplies and even potty training supplies.  If you don't do your homework and research and read reviews from other parents and professionals, then you may find yourself buying products that you probably will never use, or that don't meet your needs.  I can't tell you how many boxes of clothes we have that the girls never wore, that still have the tags on them.  And, thanks to the local diaper bank, they finally freed up much needed space in the closet, as we bought more diapers that we thought we would need and go through, only to find that they either caused the girls' skin to break out, weren't absorbent enough, or the girls' simply grew out of the sizes before we could use them.

With all being said, I am always looking for parenting communities and forums that I can join and read about other parent's thoughts on products for babies and children.  When it came time to buy car seats for the girls, hearing what other parents had to say was invaluable and saved me the headache of having to return car seats because of improper fit, etc.  So, when I recently stumbled across a new member-curated, social community called SunnyBump, I was so excited.  This site is made up of new and expecting moms, as well as moms of 2+ kids and even grandparents, helping each other discover and learn about the best products for moms and their children.

What I love most about SunnyBump is how you can create collections of products and group them into categories like feeding, potty training, travel gear, car seats, etc.  You can even bump other member's product photos, and add them to your collections you have created.  In addition, you can also pin products found at SunnyBump to your Pinterest page, share on Facebook and Twitter, or even mail to a family member or friend.  I see this site being a go-to site for new and expectant moms who are putting together a baby registry, as they can find all the necessary items they need to welcome baby with.

Here are two collections I recently put together in a matter of minutes, that related to potty training must haves and gifts for 2-3 yrs. olds.  I can't believe Savannah will be 3 in July.  Where did the time go?

Feature Friday -- Wee Drool Waterproof Reversible Bibs (Review and Giveaway)

I love sharing recently launched businesses with you, as it is a great way to show that other moms are taking the leap and pursuing their dreams.  I began my journey as a mom entrepreneur a few years ago with my business.  I will not lie, it has been a struggle, with good days and bad.  And, with two children under the age of 2, I am lucky if I can put in 3-4 hours a day -- usually, in the wee hours of the morning.  But, I would not change it for the world, as I love working for myself and seeing my ideas come to fruition.  With that being said, I would like to introduce this week's Spotlight Mom, Kelly Yaep, of Wee Drool, LLC with you.  It you missed my interview with Kelly this past Monday, click here to read it now.  Today, I wanted to share more about Kelly's Wee Drool waterproof reversible T-bibs, which are a must have item for moms with babies and toddlers.

How Does the Wee Drool Work:

I stumbled across Kelly's site, as a mom looking for a bib that would do what is was supposed to do -- catch the drool and keep my daughters' clothes underneath dry.  Like Kelly, my daughters are heavy drooling.  Savannah just recently finished cutting her molars, which felt like a long time coming.  In addition to diaper rashes, red cheeks and fussiness, I would also switch up her outfits and bibs several times a day.  And, like Savannah, Arabella began drooling at 2 1/2 months old. Before that, she had colic and acid reflux, which resulted in her spitting up or drooling out half her bottle.  Between the two of them, I was doing 4-5 load of laundry a day.  I felt like I was running my own laundromat.  Like Kelly, I tried all different bibs -- plastic, vinyl, super absorbent cotton, etc., but nothing held up again constant drooling.  That was, until Kelly kindly sent along one of her Wee Drool bibs for me to try.  When I first saw it, I fell in love with the design and how it looked like a Dickie for kids.  Within minutes of trying it out with Arabella, she began sucking on her fist and drooling profusely.  I gave her a minutes of this, to see if the Wee Drool bib would stay dry, all the way through.  With other bibs, by the second or third minute, I was taking of the bib and changing the onesie below.  But, after checking at 2 minutes, then 5, and 10 minutes, I was amazed at how dry the bib was staying.  Not only was I a happy mom, who was seeing less time in the laundry room in her future, but Arabella was a happier baby, as she didn't have to go through repeated outfit changes due to a wet shirt.  Both my girls hate when they get wet and begin fussing, until they are changed.  By using the Wee Drool bib, they are able to drool or dribble their formula or water all they want, all while staying dry.  Now, how great is that?  If you have young droolers in the house, then you know how many bibs they go through in a day, how much laundry you have to do, in order to wash not only the bibs, but also the wet shirts or onesies.  It is amazing how, just by using this one bib, it makes my life as a busy mom so much easier.  Isn't this why so many moms go into business?  They develop an idea based upon a need to fill, that will help making life with baby or young child easier.  And, along comes unique and innovative inventions like Kelly's.
Just look at how happy Arabella is sporting her Wee Drool bib, that Kelly sent our way.

This bib has been worn and washed repeated, and still looks brand new.  There has not been any shrinking or fading, which I usually see after the second or third wash and dry cycle with other bibs I have purchased. I am so glad I stumbled across her Wee Drool website, and was able to try out one of her bibs with Arabella.  Now, when I have to get a baby shower gift, I know what I will be picking up -- a set of bibs from Kelly's online boutique.  The new moms may just think these bibs are cool and stylish at first, but they will be thanking me (and Kelly) once their little ones begin to drool or teeth.

If you have been in the same boat as Kelly or I, and have been looking for a solution to wet shirts due to poor bib protection, why not give one of Kelly's cute Wee Drool bibs a try?  You have nothing to loose...yet, so much to gain (including time from not having to do continual loads of laundry daily).

My Thoughts:

With two young children under the age of two, it seems like I am always going to the pediatrician, either for a wellness or sick visit.    Both of my daughters were diagnosed with pyloric stenosis at 3 1/2 weeks old, and needed corrective surgery.  As a result of their hospital stays and compromised immune systems, both were sick upon returning home.  I found myself living at the doctors, with weekly weigh ins, as well as monitoring of cold-like systems, which couldn't be treated with medicine.  When I was not at the doctor's office, I was monitoring their temperatures at home, as they were in the low 100's.  I have to say that being a first-time parent with Savannah and having gone through this, I was a wreck.  I found myself calling both the pediatrician and my mom whenever her temp went over 102 degrees.  Don't get me started on the ER co-pays I ended up paying, for each spiked temperature, or the long wait with a crying baby there.  During this time, the one device I hoped to count on, failed repeatedly -- the thermometer.  I was given a few temporal thermometers, as well as rectal ones as baby shower gifts, and had a few for adults in the medicine cabinet.  But, I found out with each visit to the pediatrician or ER, that they were giving me false readers.  Even though both my daughters' had above 100 degree temperatures, the few times they spiked at 104 with these home-based thermometers, these were inaccurate readings.  The ER and pediatrician would take their temperatures to find them sitting at 100 degrees.

When I received these readings from the doctors, it was such a relief, but also nerve wracking knowing that the high end thermometers I was using were giving false readings.  After trying over a dozen so-called top of the line or highly rated thermometers, I finally stumbled across the ONE-- the Vicks Behind the Ear thermometer.  Just last week I had to take Arabella for her 6 month wellness visit, where she received a handful of shots.  Like her sister and I, I had to watch for reactions to the shots, and monitor her temperature.  Thanks to this thermometer from Vicks, I didn't have to worry about getting a false reading.  And, when Arabella would finally nap and I would do my routine temperature check, I could gently take her temperature, while she was sleeping.  How great is that?! Gone are the days I would have to wake her or Savannah to take a temperature, after finally get them to go down for a nap. The girls are loving this new thermometer, too, as it is not scary like others I have used on them, and doesn't have loud beeping sounds like one I had, which would scare Savannah.

So, if you have a young child at home, or are looking for just the right gift to give a family member or friend who is expecting, why not consider picking up the Vicks Behind the Ear Thermometer.  This thermometer is great for first time or current parents looking to upgrade their thermometers and first aid kits.  Now, when I suspect a temperature with the girls, I can feel confident when using this thermometer, knowing it will give me an accurate reading, and be quick and easy to use with small children.

My Thoughts:

Since having Savannah last July, we have gone through 4 baby monitors.  Being new parents, we started with the low end monitors, only to be disappointed with the sound quality.  One monitor in particular would interfere so much with the telephone, that we were hearing conversations through the baby monitor, instead of listening for Savannah's cries.  As a result, we shopped around, did our research and bought a monitor that received high ratings, and which cost over $150, only to be disappointed again, as it broke within 3 months of daily use.  And, on top of that, it received rave reviews for the picture quality, but to us, it was nothing to write home about, as you couldn't make out the baby in the black and white mode, when in the dark.  The night light was the only thing we could make out.  So, when we found out we were expecting baby #2 in November of this year, we knew the one thing we had to buy was another baby monitor.

We began researching again, but couldn't find a monitor that met our standards and price point. That was, until I was sent the iBaby Monitor to review.  Wow!  I couldn't believe we spent all that money before on poor quality baby monitors.  The iBaby Monitor is top of the line, and will only retail for $199.00, when it becomes available in 2012.  The iBaby Monitor by iBaby Labs is not only a sleek baby monitor, but it is packed with features other baby monitor on the market don't have. And, seeing that are lives revolve around technology, it is great to be able to control this baby monitor with your PC, iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.  How cool is that, huh?  As soon as I received the baby monitor to review, my husband couldn't wait to hook it up and see the picture quality on our PC and iPad.

In regards to features, you can rotate the camera via a remote control, in addition to having it automatically rotate by sensing movement of you baby. Now that is impressive! That is not all. The iBaby Monitor can alert you when the baby moves or cry.  Also, it has night vision mode, so you keep an eye on your little one at all times, day or night (dark or lit room).  Parents love having peace of mind when it comes to monitoring their baby's while they sleep, and you get this right at your fingertips, with the iBaby Monitor by iBaby Labs.  You are wondering the clarity of the picture, right?  Well, I wish you could see it up close, as it is truly amazing.  It puts all the other baby monitors we have owned and looked at to shame. The clarity of the video is another plus, as is the resolution. Unlike other baby monitors, you can take pictures and share them with friends and family, with the iBaby Monitor. Please click here to visit website for more detailed information on specifications.

Setup of was easy.  With the easy to read instructions, you will have this baby monitor up and running in under 20 minutes.  However, I had issues in the beginning as it was not configuring right to my PC.  For some reason, it wasn't recognizing my network.  After a few tries by my husband, who is in IT, we ended having to email customer support.  Another, wow!  The technical support staff responded to my email in a timely manner, with the representative walking me through the setup, until we finally were able to get the monitor to work. We found out it was a user error on our part (due in part by sleep deprivation, possibly =) ). A couple days later the same representative emailed to check in to see if the monitor was still working, or giving us problems.  Now, tell me a customer service representative you have worked with lately that would take the time to follow up.  I can't think of anyone.

Since welcoming Arabella in November, we have been putting this baby monitor to use.  With the two girls sharing the nursery, we are able to keep an eye on both of them.  I love snapping photos of them while they sleep to send to my husband.  And, just the other night, I caught my oldest daughter, Savannah, humming our little one to sleep. Now, how cute is that?  So, if you are in the market for a new baby monitor, or are looking for the perfect baby shower gift, I highly recommend the iBaby Monitor.  You will not be disappointed!

Holiday Gift Giving Guide: Luxurious Hooded Bath Towels for Kids (Suggested for Infants through age 5) from Tickle Toes (Product Review)

image

image

Whether you are in the market for a luxurious and stylish Hooded Towel or a wonderfully soft and durable Bib or simply looking for a beautiful, high quality gift, consider Tickle Toes your one stop shop. They offer a variety of products and designs to meet your babies’ accessory needs!

image

Nicole from Tickle Toes kindly sent me a Pinky Minky Dot Hooded Towel, with matching washcloth to try out with my daughter, Savannah.  When I received the hooded towel, the first thing that I noticed was how heavy this towel was.  Savannah has other hooded towels, but they feel cheap and really don’t dry her that well.  And, a few even began to fray and break down when washed and dried repeatedly.  And, when you touched the hooded towel, it was so soft to the touch.  I knew that Savannah would be in for a treat come bath time.

DSCF2655

The first time I used The Tickle Toes Hooded Towel with her, Savannah couldn’t stop rubbing the hood, as it felt so soft.  Even after she was dry, she didn’t come to change into her pajamas, as she was so warm and comfy all wrapped up in her towel.  But, I needed to take it away from her, as I wanted to see how it held up being put through the washer and dryer.  Once this towel came out of the dryer, it still looked brand new.  There was no shrinkage or fraying, and the colors didn’t run.

It has been over a month since I began using this hooded towel set with my daughter, and with repeated washing and drying, it is holding up perfectly.  And, I have even caught Savannah sneaking this hooded towel off the shelf in the bathroom and use it as a cape.  Who could blame here?  If you felt how soft and cozy this hooded towel from Tickle Toes is, you would want to do the same!!!

Here is Savannah modeling her Tickle Toes Hooded Towel:

My Review:

This past Monday I shared my "Spotlight on Mommy" interview with Carren Reiger, with you all.  If you missed my post, click here to read it now.  Carren is the owner of BambinOz, and creator of the PortaChair and the Bottle Warmer Pack.  Like I said in my post on Monday, I have been using the PortaChair she sent me for the past couple of weeks and don't know how I ever did without. This product works on various seat types, including high backs, arm chairs and even bar stools. And, as a busy mom on the go, it is great to be able to leave this product in the car and have it on hand if the need arises.  Like, this past weekend, we took Savannah pumpkin picking and stopped on the way home to eat.  Having never been to the restaurant, we weren't sure if they had high chairs or not.  When we went to be seated, they only had one high chair left, but the straps were broke.  They said we could wait until the party using the other high chair was done, but we were all hungry and couldn't wait.  So, my husband quickly ran out to the car and brought in the PortaChair.  In an instant, we had Savannah securing strapped in and ready to eat.  Ahh, the relief I felt, knowing that we wouldn't have to wait for the highchair to become available, and that our now hungry and fussy daughter could begin snacking, while waiting for her dinner.  Because Savannah is only 14 1/2 months old, she is not ready for a booster seat, so this is the perfect product to have on hand for dining out, as well as when we visit family and friends who don't have young children or proper seating, if we decide to stay for a bite to eat.  Now, wherever we go, Savannah has a portable high chair/seat that will secure her to any chair.  It is just an amazing product, and I am thankful that another mom entrepreneur like Carren came up with the product idea and brought it to market.

If you are a busy mom on the go, or even ran into seating issues dining out or visiting family and friends, the PortaChair is the answer.  This would also make a great baby shower gift, or gift for baby's 1st birthday.

Feature Friday -- Splendipity, 7 Products in 1 (Review and Giveaway)

And, the winner is:  Rebecca.

This past Monday I spotlighted Susan Kiley of Splendipity.  If you missed my interview with her, click here to read it now.  Today, I wanted to take a few minutes to share my thoughts on her amazing invention, which is actually 7 products in 1.  I have been using the Snuzzle Me cover with Savannah for the past couple of weeks and can't go anywhere without it.  I love that it is so versatile, and has many uses.  For one, when we head to the supermarket, I simply have to grab it from the trunk and then use it as a shopping care cover, protecting Savannah from the germs.  Then, when we head to a restaurant, I grab it and it becomes a highchair cover.  How great is that?  No more lugging around a handful of products for each use.  I simply leave the Splendipity Snuzzle Me cover in my trunk and grab it when the need arises.

And, with another baby due in 3 weeks, I can't wait to use it as an infant car seat cover, nursing shawl and car seat shade.  I always hated the blankets falling out off the car seats when I tried to cover Savannah last year from the elements and shade her while she slept.  The Splendipity cover actually stays put and will not blow away with the wind.  I am so glad Susan created this product, as she has made the lives of so many moms easier as a result of her 7-in-1 product, and as a busy mom, it is nice to know I only have to grab one item and go.  No more getting to a restaurant and forgetting the highchair cover, or heading for a car ride and not having a blanket to shield the baby from the sun.  It is great.  I don't feel like a crazy mom running around the house grabbing various gadgets and blankets just for a trip out (long or short).

This makes a great baby shower gift or gift for a new mom.  To get your own Splendipity Snuzzle Me cover, head on over to Susan's website today.  You can choose from the following colors -- honeysuckle, regatta, and peapod -- each is beautiful!  And, at $46.99, you can't go wrong for a baby product that does the job of 7.  You would spend a small fortune buying up products for each of the uses that the Splendipity offers.

Don't forget to use coupon code "give2011" to receive 25% off your total order, just for Inspired by Savannah readers.  Note: This code is only valid for the next 30 days, so act now to receive this wonderful savings!!!

---GIVEAWAY---

One lucky Inspired by Savannah reader will receive a $50 gift certificate to use at Susan's online store to get a Snuzzle Me Cover FREE.  To enter, please complete the MANDATORY ENTRY first, and then as many EXTRA ENTRIES as you like.  Make sure to include your email address with the first comment, so that I can contact you if you win.  Good luck!

Feature Friday -- Bover Bags -- The Best Way to Store and Carry Your Child's Pack and Play, and So Much More

This past Monday I introduced you to all to Erica Reilly, the creator of Bover Bags.  If you missed my Spotlight on Mommy interview with her, click here to read it now.  Today I wanted to share more information about this amazing product, including my own personal review of the product, as it came in handy last week when I had to travel out of state to stay with family after losing power due to Hurricane Irene, and offer Inspired by Savannah readers a 20% off coupon, so they can order a Bover Bag for themselves, a friend, or as a baby shower gift.

The Many Uses for the Bover Bag:

Bover bags aren’t just for cribs. Made of thick double-quilted fabric and a sturdy shoulder strap, they come in handy whenever you need to store and carry your stuff.

  • Children’s toys
  • Luggage
  • Laundry
  • Beach gear
  • Extra storage
  • Really big purses

I can speak from recent experience that this bag was used not only to carry my daughter's pack and play, but in a pinch I used it to transport her toys and laundry to and from her grandparents house.  I couldn't believe how versatile this bag is, and how it was made so well.  Savannah's pack and play is heavy as it is, and even tore the bag that came with it originally.  But, after taking it in and out of the Bover Bag, there were no rips or damage to the bag.  It holds up well and I am so impressed at the quality of the fabric, and just love the color selection available.  It reminds me of the Vera Bradley bags, only this one is for my daughter's pack and play.

So, if you are looking for a great mom-invented product to invest in, I highly suggest you head on over to Erica's website and check out her line of Bover Bags today.  Like I said previously, there are many uses for this bag, and once your child grows out of their pack and play, you can use this as an overnight bag when they go to their first sleepover.  It will hold their sleeping bag, pillow, clothes and more.  And, they will look stylish carrying it around.  They will be the envy of their friends, as they travel through the teen and young adults years with this durable bag.  Just thinking about it, this bag will come in handy for any college student for weekend trips home with laundry.  Ahh, I have 16 more years before this will happen. :-)
