Empower a Generation of Change Makers with Little Justice Leaders Monthly Subscription Boxes -- Makes a Great Gift Idea for Kids in K-6th Grade (Review) #LittleJusticeLeaders

Disclosure: I was sent a sample box from the vendor in exchange for an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.

Talking about social justice issues can be hard. We want to make it easier. With conversation starters, activities, and other goodies, you can make these tough conversations fun and interesting for your learners.

With this year being an election year, I spent a great deal of time talking and teaching my girls about government and elections.  My girls watch the news and have so many questions about the world around them, especially why we are so divided, and how there is still racism and social injustice all these years later.  They are part Latina, as my husband is from El Salvador, and have experienced racism in their young lives, even though they are homeschooled.  They have been picked on because of the color of their skin, and because their Daddy has an accent and is from another country.  And, when they saw the news about children being locked up in cages, it made the girls cry, as they could see many of these kids looked like them, and were so scared.  They couldn't imagine being taken away from their parents, or how it would feel to be in a country and not be able to speak the language, and be so scared.  Over the past few years, my girls have found themselves asking more and more questions as they hope to be more socially conscious, and one day stand up and make a difference for everyone - no matter their skin color or background.

I love incorporating monthly subscription boxes in our homeschooling, and was excited when I was sent a box from Little Justice Leaders to review and share with my girls. I received their Voting Right and Voter Suppression box, and really liked how this box was put together and all the wonderful content that was provided with kids grade K-6th grade in mind.

Having already covered voting rights and the election in our schooling, my girls had a basic understanding of the topics that would be covered with this fun educational box.

With projects, activities, and other goodies, you can make these sometimes difficult topics fun for your learners. The monthly package will remind you to engage in these conversations on an ongoing basis.

The Little Justice Leaders family monthly subscription box has a new social justice theme each month and contains a children's book, a hands-on activity, a series of information cards to learn more and guide the experience, and even more surprises to help you and your child learn about a social justice issue.

Be part of the solution.

You can purchase a single box with a specific theme (for instance, anti-racism, feminism, or gender identity), or a monthly subscription.

It is geared towards children ages 5-12, and a great educational box to do with the whole family.  I especially liked the additional resources that are provided, including books based on that month's topic.  I have always been a fan of subscription boxes that include books and reading comprehension questions, as I love sitting down and reading books with my girls, and then having questions to ask them to see how much they learned from the reading, and be able to talk further about what they read.  The "Equality's Call" picture book that was included in the Little Justice Leaders box we were sent was one we hadn't read before, so the girls were excited to sit down and read it with me. I especially liked how the reading guide for parents, that is included with each shipment had a list of vocabulary to go over with you kids, as well questions and things to bring up with your child as you read through the book.  I found that this resource guide really helped with getting the most out of the book and talking to my girls and educating them about voting rights and voting suppression -- more so than all the other handouts, readings, and videos we had used with our own homeschooling.  I also found that the girls had so many great questions they asked as we read through the book, and even more once we finished reading. And, after they answered the post reading questions I asked them, I could tell they had a greater understanding of voter rights, elections, and voter suppression. They breezed though the fill charts and questions that were included in the parent's resource guide, and couldn't wait to sit down and write a letter to the Dept. of Education expressing their concern for the false history being taught in the schools around voting rights.

Now that my girls are getting older, they understand why my husband and I chose to homeschool them, and are seeing so many topics in school and events in history that are being falsified in public school teaching.  From the pilgrims and native Americans, to Christopher Columbus and other notable figures in history who are being glorified when they shouldn't be, my girls are taking advantage of our homeschooling and learning what actually happened in history.

My girls were so proud of themselves when they wrote their letters, and even more proud when they helped my husband and I drop off our ballots to be counted in the recent election.  They were their "I Voted" pins and stickers with pride, and sat with us to watch the election results.

They were sad when the current president couldn't accept the results of the election, and are hoping that with the new incoming president that people will finally come together and that the friction between groups will get better, so we can finally work towards true equality for all. I reminded my girls that this will not happen overnight, and maybe not in my lifetime. But, hopefully, with their voices and hope for a better world, that they can be the generation that makes a change, and bring everyone together with equal rights, equal pay, etc.

The Little Justice Leader box is an amazing subscription box, and really lights a fire inside your child to want to make the world a better place. They are introduced to a social injustice topic and expand on it through reading the box provided, answering questions, and doing the different hands on activities.

By the time they complete the box, they will be better educated on that particular social justice topic, and feel confident in how they voice their concerns and find a way to get their voices heard, even if it is just through a letter to someone in government or at the local level.  My girls both gave the Voting Rights and Voter Suppression box from Little Justice Leader two thumbs up, and want me to sign them up for more boxes, so that we can incorporate them into our schooling.

For each box sold, we make a donation to an organization working in the area of the social justice issue addressed in the package that month, so you and your child can feel good about giving back.

If you are looking for monthly subscription box for your kids that is full of substance and one that will not only engage your child with the well though out hands on activities, but also educate on a social justice topic, then I highly recommend you checking Little Justice Leaders.  This monthly subscription box would make for a great gift idea for kids of all ages, especially those who homeschool. We Celebrated National Cookie Day with Gramma in a Box -- This Cookie and Candy Craft Monthly Box for Kids Would Make a Great Gift Idea This Holiday Season! + You Can Try Out Your First Box for only $10! (Review)

Disclosure: I was sent a sample from the vendor in exchange for an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.

Did you know that today was National Cookie day?  The girls and I made a batch of chocolate chip cookies for dessert this evening. There is nothing better than freshly baked cookies and a cold glass of milk while watching holiday movies before bed.

I bake all the time with my girls, but they always look forward to when my parents come to visit, as they get to cook with Nana (AKA Gramma).  I know how they feel, as I loved to bake with my Nana when I was little.  The holidays were always a fun time, as my parents would drop us off at my Nana's house while they did last minute holiday shopping and wrapping.  In addition to watching holiday movies with her and helping her decorate her tree and setting up her holiday village on her dining room table, we would also do cookie baking and decorating.  I have so many great memories of holiday cookie decorating with my Nana, and love seeing my girls experience the same fun with my mom when she does cookie and candy crafts with the girls.

Kids love to bake with Gramma, but when she lives far away or is no longer with us, what are they to do.

Enter "Gramma in a Box," a monthly subscription box that is made by a Gramma, who knows how much kids love to bake, and is creating a fun box for kids that includes cookie and candy crafts.

What is Gramma in a Box?:

"Each month you will receive a fun filled box of treats to make. Your box includes almost everything you need to make and decorate up to 20 cookie and candy treats, including fresh homemade cookies, a variety of sprinkles and colored frosting, two easy candy crafts, detailed instruction sheet with photos, as well as decorating ideas.

Some months will also include holiday theme candy and cookies, such as Valentine's and St. Patrick's Day.

This will be a fun memory maker for children who do not live near their Gramma, or as a great activity for when Gramma visits! So fun and easy that even Grandpa will enjoy helping out! Subscribe for yourself or give as a gift. Recommended for children 4 or older."

Who Should Order a Gramma in a Box?:

"Gramma in a Box is perfect for:  grandparents who spend time with their grandchildren; grandparents who want to send something to their grandchildren because they don't see them as often as they'd like (I Skype with my grandkids when they get their Gramma in a Box); nieces and nephews; college students (their dorm mates will love this!); stay at home date night for couples; and even parents who want a fun activity with their children without all the work! Gramma in a Box is perfect for everyone!"

---

The Gramma behind Gramma in a Box was kind enough to send me her December box for me to do with the girls. I couldn't wait to experience her cookie and candy craft box firsthand with my girls as I have been reading rave reviews from other parents, grandparents, caregivers, etc. about how much fun their kids had completing the different edible crafts from her monthly boxes.

The box arrived yesterday, and seeing the holiday cookies in the box, I knew this box would be perfect to share with the girls after our homeschool work today. I mentioned earlier that we made chocolate chip cookies this AM for dessert time, so the girls had no idea that I had more cookie and candy fun in store for them after class today.  They had seen the box yesterday and I gave them a peak inside, but they had no idea is was for them to do.

After I set up the table with the three projects included in the box, I called the girls over.  They both eyed the candy sprinkles and cookies, and couldn't wait to sit down and start making these edible holiday treats.

The first project was Hot Chocolate Treats.

When you get a Gramma in a Box each month, you are provided with everything you need to make these tasty treats. All you need is a microwave for melting chocolates (if included), plates and maybe a knife or toothpick, depending on project.

For the first project we had to melt half of the green melting chocolates, and then dipped the end of a mini candy cane into the melted chocolate before sticking into the center of a marshmallow.

We waited a couple of minutes for the chocolate to harden so that we could hold the candy cane as a handle to dip the base of the marshmallow in to the melted chocolate.

Then, we dipped the marshmallow into crush peppermint we had on a plate.  When the girls were done, they let their treats harden on the wax paper sheet was included in the box for each other, and also acted as a placemat.

As we waited for our Hot Chocolate Treats to harden, we moved onto the second project, which were Holly Wreaths.

This project had us melting more melting chocolate, before stirring in corn flakes.  Then, the girls placed the corn flake mixture into the candy papers provided.  They used the tip of the knife to make a small opening in the center of the mixture, so it looked like a wreath, before adding three red hot candies to the top to look like pointsettia.

These treats had to sit for about 5 minutes in order to harden, before the girls could lift from the candy wrappers and enjoy.  But, when they were ready, they were a favorite with my girls - minus the red hots as they aren't fans of hot candy.  That meant more for me! :-)

The third and final project was decorating winter cookies.

My girls couldn't wait to get to this project, as they love decorating cookies. As you can see in the photo below, Gramma sent the girls enough cookies for them to each get 1 gingerbread man, two star sugar cookies and 2 sugar cookie Christmas tree.  She also included frosting already added to piping bags and assorted jimmies and sprinkles.

The girls had so much fun decorating their cookies.  They liked using the piping bags which gave the more control over applying frosting, rather than just spreading on with a knife from a container of frosting.

I didn't expect these and the other treats from Gramma in a Box to last long, as they looked tasty.  I poured glasses of milk for the girls and I, and we celebrated National Cookie Day by enjoying the cookies from this box, that the girls decorated themselves.

Here is a quick video from each of the girls thanking Gramma and sharing their favorite project from the box...

As soon as we were done with the three projects in this box my girls asked when the next one would come, as they had so much with it, and want to do more cookie and candy crafts that Gramma comes up with.  I told them she sends them once a month, so they would have to wait until January.  While they were bummed, they understood that Gramma needs time to come up with fun projects for them and other kids who love the Gramma in the Box monthly boxes.  My youngest drew a picture of Gramma that she wanted me to share...and, I have to say, it came out really well.

If the above cookie and candy projects look like fun, and something your kids would love doing with you, then you definitely check out Gramma in a Box.  At only $20 a box (includes shipping) per month, you can get a fun box sent to your child each month (boxes ship the first of every month).  Head on over to www.grammainabox.com  to learn more and start your subscription today.

Last Minute Gift Ideas: Kids Dinosaur of the Month Club is Not Only Educational, But it is Fun, Too! - See My Girls Do a Box Unveiling! (Review)

Disclosure: I was sent samples from the vendor in exchange for an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.

Last month I shared a review of the fun Kids Dinosaur of the Month Club.  If you missed my post you can read it here: https://www.inspiredbysavannah.com/2017/11/holiday-gift-guide-2017-sign-your-child.html.  The other day the girls received their second shipment in the mail and couldn't wait to show you all what was included in the box.  If you have kids, especially young children, then you have probably caught them watching those silly videos on YouTube where people are making movies with toys or doing a blind bag unveiling.  My girls can't get enough of those videos, and have started asking to have their own YouTube channel.  While I am not going to create a YouTube channel for them, I did say that they can help me make videos sharing their personal reviews and unveilings like with the dinosaur club box, for my readers. Bella said, "Mom, I think they would rather watch us showing stuff than reading all your words."  She was looking at me blogging the other day and said too many words.  So, while I love to write and share my reviews with you, I promised the girls I would let them show what they got in this month's dinosaur box.

First up is Bella, followed by Savannah's video.  They both received the same items in the box, which this month was the Stegosaurus box....

So, how did they do?  For beginnings, I give them two thumbs up! :-)  As you can see you really do get an assortment of dinosaur-themed products.  My girls really love the coloring book and sticker book.  Bella was so excited about the coloring book that as soon as she was done doing her video she grabbed her crayon crate and sat at the table to color.  She said, "Hey, Mom, look this is a story book where we will learn fun dinosaur facts."

I loved seeing her get so excited about this, and how she sat for over an hour coloring half the book, which we will finish up tomorrow and read together, once all the pages are colored in.

I could go on and on about how great this dinosaur of the month club for kids is, but you can see with my girls' videos just how excited they got when they opened their boxes, or read my previous review.

If you have dinosaur lover in your life, or are looking for fun monthly subscription box for your kids that is not only educational in content, but also fun, they you will have to check out the Kids Dinosaur of the Month Club today.
