Do your children like to brush their teeth?  A few months ago, I was lucky if I could get Savannah to brush at least once a day.  You would think with all my years of experience educating youth in schools and at community health fairs as a health educator on the importance of brushing your teeth, that my girls would be gun ho about brushing.  But, that wasn't the case.  While Savannah liked the taste of the training toothpaste, she would merely just chew on the toothbrush, not brushing her teeth at all.

Did you know that you and your child(ren) are supposed to be brushing their teeth for at least 2 minutes for it to be a thorough cleaning?  I was lucky to get my girls to brush for at least 30 seconds before the toothpaste was sucked off and the toothbrush was thrown on the floor.  Back in the day when I would teach kids about brushing, I would tell them to sing "Happy Birthday" a few times in their heads, in order to reach 2 minutes of brushing.  And, for preschoolers and their parents, I would teach parents silly songs to sing to their kids, to get them to brush up and down, left and right, and don't forget their tongue.  I tried all these techniques with my girls, but they didn't seem to work.  It took a musical toothbrush to get them excited and hooked on brushing their teeth.

Have you seen or heard about the ARM & HAMMER Tooth Tunes toothbrush?

"From the makers of the #1 kids battery toothbrushes, ARM & HAMMER™ Tooth Tunes™ features one of a kind Music in Your Mouth™ technology. This proprietary technology streams sound vibrations from the bristles of the toothbrush through the teeth, allowing kids to hear the music while they brush."

I was recently sent the One Direction, "What Makes You Beautiful" Tooth Tunes toothbrush for the girls to review.  "The ARM & HAMMER™ Tooth Tunes™ One Direction toothbrush is the only brush that plays One Direction."  In addition to "What Makes You Beautiful, ARM & HAMMER™ Tooth Tunes™ also offers another hit One Direction tune, "One Thing" as part of their Tooth Tunes line of toothbrushes.

·

Because I have two daughters, and they can't share a toothbrush, I went out to the store and picked up a few more ARM & HAMMER Tooth Tunes toothbrushes, so that they would each have their own.  In addition to the One Direction toothbrushes, you can also find the following artists and their popular songs in an ARM & HAMMER Tooth Tunes toothbrush:

o   “All Day” performed by Cody Simpson
o   “Dynamite” performed by Taio Cruz
o   “I Gotta Feeling” performed by Black Eyed Peas
o   “If I Ruled the World” performed by Big Time Rush
o   “Round & Round” performed by Selena Gomez & The Scene
o   “Tonight, Tonight” performed by Hot Chelle Rae
o   “We Will Rock You” performed by Queen

I ended up picking up the Bruno Mars, "Just the Way You Are" and "I Gotta Feeling" by the Black Eyed Peas toothbrushes, as my girls love these two songs.  Savannah has been smitten with Bruno Mars since she was born, and seems to be captivated with his voice.  She will stop whatever she is doing when she hears one of his songs come on the radio or television.  I couldn't wait to see Savannah's reaction when she heard the Bruno Mars Tooth Tunes toothbrush play for the first time.  Here is a quick video I took of her showing off her new toothbrush:

I am so glad I finally found a way to get my girls excited about brushing, that keeps them brushing for 2 minutes -- the length of the songs.  What a novel idea! :-)   If you struggle to get your children to brush their teeth, why not give ARM & HAMMER™ Tooth Tunes™ a try?  Click here to learn more about the ARM & HAMMER™ Tooth Tunes™, including where to find these toothbrushes at a retailer near you -- http://bit.ly/SlH7jJ.

Summary:

This interactive novelty book starring Dora and Diego makes toothbrushing a treat!

Dora and Diego are teaching kids all about keeping their teeth healthy in this adorable novelty book. With pop-ups, pull-tabs, and a cardboard toothbrush that moves back and forth, young readers will want to brush their teeth with Dora and Diego every day!

Sure to be a big hit with kids just learning this important daily ritual,
Let’s Brush! ties into Nickelodeon’s “Big Beginnings” initiative and will have an eye-catching “Big Beginnings” burst on the front cover.

My Thoughts:

In addition to working with Savannah on potty training, we have been teaching her how to brush her teeth with toothpaste, as well as the importance of good dental hygiene.  At first, she didn't understand the concept of brushing and flossing, and would merely chew on the toothbrush.  But, through the help of this interactive story, she began brushing properly.  This book, like the Little Color Fairies I just reviewed has push and pull tabs, as well as pop-up pages through the book.  The story is easy to read, and will be enjoyed by Dora and Diego fans.  Savannah is a huge fan of both, and couldn't stop pointing to each of them and calling out their names.

I love when I stumble across a book that is not only entertaining to read, but is also a great teaching tool.  I will definitely be sharing this book with Arabella when she gets a little older.

Are you trying to teach your little one proper brushing techniques and the importance of dental hygiene?  If so, this is a great book to pick and share with them.

Disclosure:  I was sent a copy of this book by the publisher in order to write up an honest review.  The views above are mine and mine alone.
