BRING HOME NICKELODEON'S SPOOKY
NEW STOP-MOTION SPECIAL

Like I mentioned in my last post, the girl took full advantage of the bag of DVDs we had to review, to keep them busy during our 4 hr. drive to and from NH during our recent vacation. Another movie the girls liked watching was the new "SpongeBob SquarePants: The Legend of Boo-Kini Bottom," which arrives on DVD September 11th.  I don't know about you, but we really like this time of year, as there are so many seasonal holiday DVD releases, which are fun to watch as a family, as you count down until a holiday.  Next to Christmas, Halloween is my girls' next favorite holiday, and they have a large Halloween DVD collection, which they continue to add to.  And, thanks to "SpongeBob SquarePants: The Legend of Boo-Kini Bottom", they are in Halloween mode, and have already started to decorate the house, and think about the costumes they will make this year.

Do you have a SpongeBob SquarePants fan in your life?  My two girls and husband can't get even of SpongeBob.  They tune in daily to watch this popular animated series, and will usually pop in one of our many SpongeBob DVDs over the weekend to watch together, while they are enjoying their pancake breakfasts they do with Daddy.  :-)

This DVD has just the right amount of spooky fun that will get kids excited about Halloween and all that comes with this festive holiday.  My girls really enjoyed this new release, and said it is one of their favorite SpongeBob SquarePants movie, and one they will be watching again soon, and as Halloween nears.

More about this new DVD release:

"SpongeBob and his Bikini Bottom friends star in Nickelodeon's original spooky stop-motion spectacular, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Legend of Boo-Kini Bottom, available on DVD September 11. This terrifying tale tells the story of the Flying Dutchman (Brian Doyle-Murray) coming to Bikini Bottom to make sure everyone in town is scared--especially SpongeBob, who seems to be unflappable in his belief that spooky things are actually funny. Inspired by the visual style of classic stop-motion animation TV specials, The Legend of Boo-Kini Bottom was brought to life in three dimensions by Los Angeles-based stop-motion studio Screen Novelties. Produced by Nickelodeon Home Entertainment and distributed by Paramount Home Media Distribution, SpongeBobSquarePants: The Legend of Boo-Kini Bottom will be available for the suggested retail price of $10.99. Get Into the Halloween Spirit with These DVDs from NCircle Entertainment + Enter to #Win 6 DVD Halloween Bundle Now! -- Review and #Giveaway

Disclosure:  I was sent screener copies from the vendor in exchange for sharing an honest review.  All views shared are mine and mine alone.

Halloween costumes..check!  Halloween decorations up...check!  Now to gather up new and some family favorite Halloween DVDs as we count down to Halloween night and trick-or-treating.  Next to Christmas, Halloween is my girls' next favorite holiday, partly because they like seeing how much candy they can get, but also because they love to dress up and pretend to be someone else for the night.  This year the girls surprised me and decided to be witches together.  Usually they never agree on things, especially clothes or costumes.  But, they both saw similar witch costumes with accessories online and thought it would be fun to be witches together.

In addition to a few favorite Halloween movies that we make a point to watch every year leading up to the holiday, like the classic Charlie Brown one, we now have six new titles that have become instant hits with the girls and ones I know they will want to watch time again, thanks to the folks at NCircle Entertaintment.

A few weeks ago we were sent a sampling of some of their Halloween titles for kids to review.  My girls couldn't wait to start watching them, and after we finished making decorations for inside the house and hanging up ones we bought for outside, the girls gathered blankets and nestled on the couch to watch some of the movies.  And, we continued watching the following Halloween titles from NCircle Entertainment (read on to learn how you can will all six DVDs so you can enjoy with your family this Halloween), until we were all done and the girls decided which was their favorite of them all.

Here are the six Halloween DVDs we were sent from NCircle Entertainment...

Sid the Science Kid: Sid's Spooky Halloween

"It's Halloween! Join Sid and his friends as they discover how bats catch mosquitoes, why spiders are expert engineer web builders, and how skeletons make up the foundation of our bodies. The kids dress up to celebrate Halloween at school, and Teacher Suzie leads them in a special Halloween parade song to show off their costumes! With Sid the Science Kid, Halloween can be spooky and scientific!"

Cat In The Hat Knows a Lot About Halloween!

"Cat In The Hat: Knows a Lot About Halloween - DVD - The Cat in the Hat takes Nick and Sally on the craziest Halloween ride filled with howlers and shockers and scary fandangle's, big laughs and music and fun from all angles! Their fright-filled adventure takes them deep into the Oooky-ma-kooky Closet where Nick and Sally discover the very best Halloween costumes ever. The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About Halloween DVD Features: Rating: Not Rated Run Time: 60 Minutes Genre: Children/Family"

Houdini

"Twelve year old Harry has lived and breathed magic since his early childhood. The problem is that his hometown, Appletown, is not the best place for his natural talent to blossom. Although he rehearses endlessly in his parents' barn he realizes that his dream is just that a dream. One day Harry catches the glimpse of a chance: the New York mayor has announced a magic competition due to the official opening of the Statue of Liberty. Unfortunately, there is a slight problem with this competition, in order to try out one must be trained by a real magician. Poor Harry doesn't know a single one. Until Harry s father runs into the magician, the Great Tesla, in town and Tesla promises to see Harry. Despite the young boy s lack of knowledge Tesla spots talent, creativity and boldness in Harry. He decides to give him a chance and invites him to his own home, accompanied by his niece, Beth, and his assistant, Amrold. Tesla will teach Harry the basics of magic, his tricks but will also test him. Will Harry be strong enough to become a true magician?"

Doozers: Spookypalooza

"Welcome to Doozer Creek where the Doozers live! They're green. They're cute. They're three inches tall and they're full of energy, ideas, and enthusiasm! It's Spookypalooza! The time of year when all Doozers get together to spook each other. The Pod Squad makes the spookiest pumpkin ever a cool Pumpkin Doozer made by stacking three pumpkins together. But when their new invention starts rolling all around town, the Doozers have to find a way to reign in their spooky creation! Enjoy four STEM-based adventures with the Doozers!"

Pocoyo: Boo!

"Join Pocoyo and his friends on seven playful adventures. Whether it's playing a new game called Boo!, enjoying a monster mash party or pretending to be Godzilla & King Kong, every day is fun & engaging with Pocoyo and his friends!"

The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That! Tricks and Treats

"A new spooky adventure this DVD brings, with the Cat, Nick and Sally, Fish and the Things. Meet the eeriest critters you've ever seen, arrived just in time for Halloween. There will be lots of tricks and of course, lots of treats, to share with the animal friends you will meet! There's coconut crab, spider monkeys and bats, and plenty more fun with the Cat in the Hat."

As far as favorites, Savannah said she loved the The Cat and the Hat Knows A Lot About Halloween!, while Bella couldn't get enough of Pocoyo: Boo!.  I personally liked the "The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That!: Tricks and Treats.  We have been studying nocturnal animals as part of school including bats, so it was nice to watch the "Batty for Bats" episode with the girls and tie in things we were learning, with the help of the Cat in the Hat. :-)  Other episodes on this particular DVD included "Aye-Aye! and "Trick or Treat!"

The Sid the Science Kid: Sid's Spooky Halloween also had some great teaching points including learning how baths catch mosquito's and why spiders are expert web builders.  The girls were fascinated with what they learned when watching this DVD, but said because we use the Sid the Science Kid DVDs and episodes a lot for school, they couldn't include as a favorite, as I might make them watch more. :-) Ah, the fun of homeschooling.

Another surprising favorite, even though Bella said it wasn't that Halloweeny was Houdini.  Last month the girls got a magic kit in the mail and had so much fun learning different magic tricks to perform for family and friends.  I had mentioned to the girls how if they kept up their magician training that they could get as good as Houdini.  Bella remembered this name and was excited when she saw the Houdini: How Little Harry Became the Great Houdini.  This movie is only an hour in length so is perfect for kids of all ages, and just the right length to watch in one sitting.  We have watched all the NCircle Entertainment DVDs I mentioned above a handful a times since receiving a few weeks ago, but the Houdini one was been on constant repeat at home and in the car with the girls.  They can't get enough of little Harry and his magic tricks, and have now added magic tricks and magician costumes to their wish lists for Santa.  And, Bella changed her science experiment birthday party theme to a magic show one.  So, now I have 2 weeks to run around and find fun magic trick sets for the kids to do and party favors.  Bella plans to have this DVD on loop in the living room for the kids to watch, and is ready to answer any Harry Houdini questions they may have. :-)

Next to the amazing content of these five Halloween DVDs, the price point -- all under $10 (with most titles only $6.99 each), is perfect for families to pick up all or most of the above and add to their family's Halloween DVD collection, or use to start one to start a new tradition of watching Halloween movies with their families.  Each of these six NCircle Entertainment titles are not only fun and entertaining to watch, but will also get your and your family about Halloween and all the fun that goes with costumes, trick or treating, spooky things, etc.

THREE PBS KIDS SPOOK-TACULAR TITLES PERFECT FOR HALLOWEEN! (Review)

Disclosure:  I was sent screener copies from the vendor in order to write up an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.

Caillou: Caillou's HalloweenPeg & Cat: A Totally Awesome Halloween

New DVDs Available from PBS Distribution September 1 are
“Caillou: Caillou’s Halloween,” “Peg + Cat: A Totally Awesome Halloween,”
and “WordWorld: Halloween Fun”

With only 26 days until Halloween, are you and your kids getting into the holiday spirit yet?  Both of my girls have already picked out and purchased their costumes.  Savannah is going to be Everest from Paw Patrol, while Bella will be Ariel, the Little Mermaid.  I even picked up all the Halloween candy for trick-or-treaters, and fun craft kids to do the with the girls after we are done painting our pumpkins.  All these preparations are fun, but my family's favorite thing about the holidays, including Halloween, is watching holiday movies.  And, thanks to some recent PBS Distribution DVD releases my girls and I have been having a blast watching some of our favorite PBS Kids episodes all about Halloween.

Here is more about the three DVDs that have been on repeat in our house...

"PBS Distribution announced today it is releasing three new Halloween themed DVDs on September 1, 2015. Each of these DVDs features a PBS KIDS series – CAILLOUPEG + CAT, and WORDWORLD. From carving a jack-o’-lantern with Caillou to going on a trick-or-treating adventure with Peg and Cat, these DVDs include fun-filled laugh-out-loud stories full of Halloween excitement.

The three new DVDs available are “CAILLOU: CAILLOU’S HALLOWEEN,” “PEG + CAT: A TOTALLY AWESOME HALLOWEEN,” and “WORDWORLD: HALLOWEEN FUN.” Each DVD has an SRP of $6.99. More information about each DVD is below.

Caillou: Caillou's Halloween

CAILLOU’S HALLOWEEN” features 13 stories including “Caillou Loves Halloween,” “Pumpkin Patch Kid,” and “Caillou’s Halloween Costume.” In “Caillou’s Halloween Costume,” Caillou and Rosie are trying to pick out costumes as Halloween quickly approaches – but Caillou can’t decide what he wants to be. With help from Mommy and Daddy, a furry blue monster costume is created for Caillou so he can join Leo, a cowboy, and Clementine, a bumblebee, for trick-or-treating!
Peg & Cat: A Totally Awesome Halloween

Combine Halloween excitement with mathematical fun and you’ve got “PEG + CAT: A TOTALLY AWESOME HALLOWEEN.” This DVD features four adventures, two of which are Halloween themed – “The Parade Problem” and “The Halloween Problem.” In “The Parade Problem,” kids will learn about sorting and estimating as they watch Peg and Cat clean up a park to ensure the nursery school’s Halloween parade takes place. After watching Peg and Cat solve this problem, kids can join Peg, who dresses up as a mailbox, and Cat, who decides to be a fire hydrant, on a trick-or-treating adventure that features the duo using their math skills to divide up Halloween treats so that everyone gets a fair share.

The PEG + CAT series is funded in part by the U.S. Department of Education through the Ready To Learn Initiative, a program that supports the development of innovative educational television and digital media targeted at preschool and early elementary school children and their families, and by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB).

In the frightfully fun DVD “WORDWORLD: HALLOWEEN FUN,” join the WordFriends on adventures that demonstrate the connections between letters, sounds, words, and meaning. This DVD features five stories including “A Kooky Spooky Halloween” and “Sheep’s Halloween Costume.” In “A Kooky Spooky Halloween,” Pig is so worried about finishing his Halloween bags, because he’s missing the letter B, that he ends up sleepwalking. As he sleepwalks, collecting Bs along the way, everyone thinks he’s a ghost!

----

What I love so much about DVD releases like these are that they are not only jam packed with some of my girls' favorite episodes, but they are reasonably priced, making them affordable to pick up for the home and to even get an extra copy for the car or even the grandparents house.  :-)  While Halloween is still 26 days away, my girls are already in the spirit thanks to these fun, educational DVDs.  If you are looking for a fun way to get your little ones excited about Halloween, or simply want to add reasonably priced DVDs to their growing DVD collection, these three PBS Kids series DVDs are a must have. :-)

-----
Being a child of the 80's, I grew up watching The Littles, Johnny Test, Mona the Vampire and other fun cartoons that make up this classic collection of cartoons from my childhood. Prior to receiving these two DVDs to watch with my girls, I had started to introduce the to The Littles, as I had come across old VHS tapes of recordings from this and other cartoons I used to watch. :-)
It was nice to relive my childhood and have a refresher of sorts with these 10 Halloween themed episodes.  Some of the episodes I remembered, while others were like I was seeing them for the first time, this time with my girls.
Overall, the selection of Halloween cartoons that make up this 10-episode DVD are wonderful.  Savannah found them thoroughly entertaining, while Bella liked to pretend she was scared, when vampires or ghosts would appear. Then, she would follow up and say that she was just being goofy. :-)
I ended up keeping the TV's Spookiest Halloween Episodes from TV Guide Spotlight DVD to watch with my husband, as he, too, was a fan of Roseanne back in the day.  Like the cartoons, he couldn't recall the Halloween episode, so he was interested in seeing it.  We ended up watching all 13 episodes that make up this recent release, this past Friday during our at-home date night, seeing that the girls were still sick.
I don't know about you, but I love watching old shows from the past whenever they are on television, or find their way onto DVDs.  You can't help but find yourself comparing how these shows would stack up against hit shows of today. But, then, you remember that they are popular and winding up on DVDs for a reason -- these are classic shows that people want to see over and over again. :-)
These two DVDs sure did get us into the Halloween spirit, with their eery and sometimes silly stories, all the pumpkins, ghosts and costumed characters and more.  These two DVDs are ones that I see will be enjoyed every Halloween for years to come.  We will definitely be watching them.  And, when the girls get older, I will introduce them to Roseanne, and the other classic sitcoms of my childhood, which I still love catching episodes of to this day.
To learn more about these fun and oh so affordable Halloween themed DVDs, as well as other recent and upcoming DVD releases from Mill Creek Direct, visit http://www.millcreekdirect.com/ today.
Stay tuned next month when i will be sharing more great family friendly DVDs from Mill Creek Direct, when I kick off my Holiday Gift Guide.

The girls make a scarecrow and Alana gets to see live turkeys on the farm, but Mama June is still determined to keep the family feast cheap. Still through all the laughs and mayhem, the bountiful candy and food, you’ll come to realize that family is the truly the greatest gift of fall."

My Little Pony-Friendship is Magic: Spooktacular Pony Tales on DVD Today, 9/9 (Review)

Disclosure:  I was sent a screener copy from the vendor in order to write up an honest review.  All views shared are mine and mine alone.

If you have been to the store lately, you have probably seen the Halloween displays, candy aisle and costumes already out.  So much for summer, right?  Today I ended up picking up pumpkins for the girls as Savannah has been asking me since last week to get one so that we could use the pumpkin stencil that comes with the new My Little Pony:  DVD, which came out today in stores.  We had received a screener copy early last week, but have already watched this DVD, which is filled with 6 ponyriffic episodes (Savannah's words, not mine!) :-)  They are Halloween themed, with costumes, spooks and more -- but, don't worry they aren't scary.

"Everypony loves Halloween… the candy, the pumpkins, the costumes, the friends! Join your favorite residents of Ponyville — Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Rarity, Applejack, Pinkie Pie and, of course, Spike — as they take on some of the spookiest adventures Equestria’s ever seen! Time to gather around and hold on tight, because these six exciting tales are a chillingly good romp."

If you have a MLP fan in your life, both young and old, this is one DVD I suggest picking.  I love when shows come out with holiday themed DVDs, as it makes for getting excited about an upcoming holiday that much more fun.  Like I said, this DVD comes with a fun paper stencil that you can use this Halloween, as well as a catchy sing-along bonus feature that you don't want to miss.

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that there is a lso a color Halloween poster featuring all the ponies for your child to hang on the wall.  I almost forget as the first day we got this DVD and Savannah saw it, it had to go up on her wall.

I just noticed it when I went to check on her.  So begins the posters on the walls in the girls room.  Hey, at least it is a MLP one. :-)

Savannah is a die hard MLP fan and has been one since she was one and my mom surprised her with my childhood ponies.  Seeing how much fun Savannah has watching this animated series, which airs daily on the Hub Network, Bella is now getting into the show.  I have lost count on how many times she has asked to watched Equestria Girls.  And, when Savannah is in school, Bella will sneak and play with her ponies, or grab her MLP microphone and belt out the theme song. :-)

It was hard for the girls to choose a favorite episode, as any MLP is a favorite to them.  But, they did like the Halloween feel and costume dress up, and have had this new DVD on full rotation since receiving.

These are the full-length episodes you will find on this new DVD release:

Boast Busters

Stare Master
Luna Eclipsed
Sleepless In Ponyville
Castle Mane-ia
Bats!

I definitely recommend this DVD not just for getting into the Halloween spirit, but that it makes for a great addition to your family's growing MLP DVD collection.  I have to say, I am excited to see how our MLP pumpkin comes out this weekend.  I never thought to carve a MLP character into a pumpkin, but thanks to this paper stencil, it looks like a lot of fun. :-)
