Fill the Stockings w/ Movies from Echo Bridge Home Entertainment -- Spend $20 and Save $10 Now!! #Giveaway

Disclosure: I was sent screener copies of some of the titles shown below from the vendor, in order to write up an honest review.  The views shared are mine and mine alone.

One of my favorite things to buy and fill family and friend's stockings with are DVD and Blu-Ray movies.  I don't know about you, but there is something about unwinding after a crazy day with a nice glass of wine and a good movie, that I find so relaxing.  And, during the crazy holiday season, there is nothing better than listening to the crackling logs on the fire in the background, as I sip on a warm tea or cocoa while watching holiday movies.  This is true bliss to me! :-)

And, when it comes to shopping for movies, I always make a point to check out Echo Bridge Home Entertainment.  Not only do they offer movies from all genres, for every member of the family, but their prices are unbeatable.  Where can you shop and get 6 or even 15 movies all on one DVD for between $6-$15 dollars?  Now I am not talking about movies you have never heard of before.  Echo Bridge Home Entertainment chooses top quality movies when creating their collection DVD sets.  I just love their holiday selection, that family's can sit down and enjoy together.

Recently, I was sent two of their DVD's, which combined included 21 Christmas movies, and 20 bonus holiday songs!

Christmas Collector's Set V.5

While I haven't sat down to watch each and every one of these movies, I have seen most of them over the years, and some have been on my family's "must see" holiday movie list year after year.  Of the movies I had never seen before, but watched over the past couple of weeks, I have found a handful of new movies to introduce my family to this holiday season, and others I can't wait to sit down and watch with my mom.  In my family, my mom and I are the ones who love to watch sappy love stories and holiday films when they air on television.  While we don't live as close as I like, I make a point to record them, so that when she does come to visit, we can watch them together like the good 'ol days.  She will be visiting for Bella's 2nd birthday this weekend, and I already have a few movies from these two DVDs picked out to watch with her, as we put up the Christmas tree to surprise the girls with on Sunday. :-)

So, if you love holiday films?  Who doesn't?  Or, you like to get the most bang for your buck on purchases, why not head on over to Echo Bridge Home Entertainment.  Right now, they are offering an amazing offer not to be missed.  They are giving buyers a $10 credit with a $20 purchase. When Blu-rays are only $5, think of how many movies you can get! It’s really a great deal.  And, one that will make for great stocking stuffers or gifts for those hard to shop for people on your list.  Or, treat yourself and add a few new movies to your movie collection, to enjoy with the family, or with girlfriends. :-)

Now Available on DVD from Echo Bridge, Moomin and Midsummer Madness (Review)

Synopsis:

Moomin & Midsummer Madness

Synopsis:

"It's been a long, hot summer in the Moomin Valley. All of the creatures are becoming bored with the unchanging season—until a volcanic eruption causes a major flood. As the Moomin family searches for refuge, they are rescued by a floating abandoned house. But this is no house, and it's definitely not abandoned. Occupied by the feisty Emma, the Moomin learn that the building is actually a theater. With plenty of costumes and props to occupy their time, soon the family is engrossed in creating their own play—the first ever Moomin stage production!"

My Thoughts:

This new release reminded me of the movie, Where the Wild things Are, and one of Savannah's favorite shows, "Shawn the Sheep," as I watched it the other day with the girls.  Even though they didn't seem to get excited about it, and ended up walking away halfway through, I found it cute and enjoyable.  And, at only a little over an 1 hr. it is quick film to watch with young children.  Here is a trailer to give you an idea about what this film is about, as it not like other animated films you are used to watching with your kiddos.

This was directed by a Finnish director, Maria Lindberg, received rave reviews in other countries when it was released in 2008-2009.  Now, it has come to America, and we can finally enjoy the Moomins, which are popular in non-US television series and comic books.

It may take a short time to get into the movie, but once you do, the story is cute and easy to follow, which I love for young viewers, as you don't have to sit and try to explain the plot to them.  So, if you are looking for a new movie to share with the family, why not consider picking up "Moomin and Midsummer Madness" today?

Arriving on Blu-ray for the First Time in March from Echo Bridge Entertainment (Review)

I have finally jumped on the bandwagon and purchased a Blu-ray player.  I know, I know, they have been out for a while.  But, those close to me know I don't like change, including updating electronics.  It took me awhile to switch to the DVD player -- and, I have to admit, I still love using the VHS player to let the girls watch some of my old children's movies I collected and watched over the years.  But, with the purchase of a Blu-ray player comes deciding which new movies to buy, and which of my all-time favorite movies to update and buy on Blu-ray player.  With that being said, I was excited to hear that Echo Bridge Entertainment was releasing a few of my favorite titles on Blu-ray for the first time .

This March, fans of the following three movies can finally purchase and enjoy them when they become available on Blu-ray:

Down to You Music of the HeartPlaying By Heart

One of the reasons I love these movies so much is that I saw them with my now-husband as date night flicks when we were dating, and also enjoyed them with girlfriends when we had girls-night in pampering parties.  Who doesn't like to watch a romantic comedy or inspirational movie every once in a while.  And, with these titles you will surely be entertained and walk away with a good feeling.  I can't tell you how many movies I have seen recently and felt like I wasted my money and time on.  The plot was nothing to write home about, and the actors really didn't move me or make me feel like they were excited about the role they were playing.  But, with these three upcoming Blu-ray releases from Echo Bridge Entertainment, you will find yourself wanting to watch these movies over and over again.  Don't worry, I am not going to bore you with a review of each, as they have out for years and there have been countless written and video reviews done on them.  I just wanted to make you aware of these upcoming Blu-ray movies, so that you can mark your calendars and pick up when they become available in March -- or, better yet, pre-order them now and sit back and wait for them to arrive).

Disclosure:  I was sent copies of these titles from the vendor in order to write up an honest review.  The views above are mine and mine alone.

Rated PG; Not Rated / Available in Canada

---

My Thoughts:

I remember reading these classics back in school, and then again a few years back.  These two movies have had many movie renditions made over the years -- from family style films to cartoon animated ones.  But, I have to say that these two movies, which make up this upcoming DVD release are the best that I have seen.  If you love Ron Howard the actor, then you will love his performance as Huck Finn.

Families will enjoy sitting down together and watching these movies -- either in one sitting. or spaced out over a couple of weekends.  Then, follow up with a discussion of the classic tale that they have read.  You could pose such questions as "How does this film rate compared to the reading the story?  Do you understand the story more by seeing it come to life in a film?  And, if you live near Hartford, CT or are willing to make a drive here, the Mark Twain house is a great attraction to visit.  My husband and I have visited Mark Twain's house over a dozen times over the years, and learn more and more about the amazing author each time we go.  Just seeing these films makes me want to visit his house again, or pick up his books to read.

Homeschooling parents will also love this 2-movie Mark-Twain feature, as it would make a great add on when it comes time to have your children read these Mark Twain classics.

My Thoughts:

Even though I loved all six movies, I have to say my favorites were "The Ron Clark Story" and "Music of the Heart."  I am not going to waste your time describing the movies, as many of you have probably see most, if not all the movies on this 6 movie DVD release, over the years.  This is one reason I love Echo Bridge Entertainment's DVD's, as they combine great family films onto one DVD, making family movie night fun.  And, with the average cost of a DVD like this going for around $14-$16.00, you can't go wrong with the price, as you get 6 full-length movies.

So, if your family loves family movie night, or you made a resolution for 2013, to spend more time together on weekend or in the evening, why not pick up this or another family-themed DVD from Echo Bridge Entertainment to enjoy together.

10-Film Holiday Collector's Set10-Movie Children's Holiday Collection

Even though my daughters are too young to understand the themes of these movies, they loved seeing the animals on the screen and listening to the holiday music, which is an added bonus feature to each of these DVDS.  I haven't seen any of these movies before, so it was a treat to watch, and know that I had some wonderful titles to add to our growing Christmas DVD collection, to enjoy for years to come.

So, if you are looking for some family-friendly holiday movies to share this upcoming season, why not pick up one or more of these or other Echo Bridge Entertainment movies today?  Like I said, for the price, you can't go wrong.  Two of these movies alone would be the equivalent of one movie ticket.  You will enjoy the savings and quality of each family film in the comfort of your own home, while enjoying pizza or a freshly cooked meal, and not break the bank. :-)

Now Available on DVD -- Castle Rock, Time of the Wolf and Wild Adventures: 5 Movie Collection (Review)

I am a huge fan of Echo Bridge Entertainment, as they offer a wonderful selection of family friendly DVDs at a reasonable price.  Most DVDs I have been sent to review, including collections with 5 and 8 movies on them, usually cost around $6.99.  Yes, you read that right -- $6.99.

With the recent mini heat wave we had here in New England, we found ourselves staying indoors, with the air conditioners on, to stay cool.  Then, when the sun went down and it cooled off a bit, we would head to a local playground or stroll in a park with the girls.  But, during the day, we found ourselves catching up on movies.  Included in our family movie marathon was Time of the Wolf, Castle Rock and Wild Adventures: 5 Movie Collection, all from Echo Bridge Entertainment

Time of the Wolf

When Aaron loses his parents, the only family he has left are his estranged aunt and uncle (Burt Reynolds), who are reluctant to take the young boy in. But with no other options, Aaron moves into their farm house, nestled in the sprawling wilderness, and begins a new life. Aaron finds much comfort in exploring the nature around him and becomes even more intrigued when he spots a white wolf patrolling the nearby ridge. When he witnesses a hunter wound the majestic animal, Aaron reaches out to the wolf and creates a bond that will become very important to protecting both of their lives.

Synopsis

Andy's mother has had enough of her rebellious teenage daughter, so she sends her out into the desert near Castle Rock with her grandpa (Ernest Borgnine) and his dog, Farley, for a serious reality check. As they're setting up camp, Farley takes off and Andy goes looking for him. When she returns, her grandpa is nowhere to be found—rescued by some locals after suffering a terrible stroke. Now Andy and Farley are alone in the desert with no other options except to make the trek to the nearest town. But they're not alone for long when they come across Antonio, a young illegal immigrant on the run from border patrol. If they want to make it out alive, they'll have to stick together.

 Synopsis

RUDYARD KIPLING'S JUNGLE BOOK

The original version of this well-known tale paints the story of Mowgli, a boy raised by wolves, and the exotic word he lives in.

SIMON AND THE SPIRIT BEAR

A life-long bear lover and activist travels through the Pacific Northwest in search of the majestic white Kermode bear.

RIVER'S END

After one too many times in trouble, a teenager is given a chance to redeem himself when his grandfather suggests a solitary canoe trip into the wilderness.

HOLLYWOOD SAFARI

An animal-training family loses their lion, who is then blamed for the actions of a wild look-alike.

SECRET OF THE ANDES

A young girl who is always in trouble travels to Argentina to be with her archeologist father.

Out of these three DVDs, I had only saw a few from the Wild Adventures collection.  So, it was nice being able to sit down and watch older films, but ones we had never seen.  After watching all the movies on these three Echo Bridge Entertainment DVD's, both my husband and I agree that our favorite movie was Time of the Wolf.  This was such a heartwarming tale, and the young actor, who we remembered from Taken, stole the show.  And, it was nice to see the softer sides of Burt Reynolds and Jason Priestly.

For the price of these DVDs, you can't go wrong for wholesome family entertaining, that will sure to please everyone in the family.  So, with the hot weather here, why not pick up a few Echo Bridge Entertainment DVDs today, and enjoy when you are looking to entertain the children, or for a great family movie night feature?

Now Available on DVD - More Than Puppy Love, Starring Diane Ladd (Review)

More Than Puppy Love

Synopsis:

Marie and Curtis are a young couple who are very much in love and preparing to start a family. But when Curtis has an accident at his construction job, he is left paralyzed and grief stricken about his fate. Meanwhile, Steve, a rambunctious teen, has been causing quite a headache for his mother. To teach him a lesson in responsibility, she signs him up to be a foster caretaker of a puppy from the Kansas Specialty Dog Service. Steve chooses Banner, a loveable Labrador that he welcomes home with the help of his younger sister, Emily. The foster program only lasts for one year, and Emily struggles to understand why they can't keep Banner forever. But her outlook changes when she is able to pass on her four-legged friend to Curtis, who is still coming to terms with his new life in a wheelchair. Lessons are learned and lifelong friendships are made in this "warm and charming story" that families will love (Dove Foundation).

My Thoughts:
If you follow my blog, then you know that I am a huge dog lover, and have 2 rescue dogs of my own.  So, whenever I stumble across movies where dogs play a leading role, I just have to watch them.  I was surprised that I had never heard or watched this movie, as it was originally released back in .  The other night, after the girls went to bed, I put this movie on, grabbed a bag of popcorn and a glass of wine, and settled in to watch the movie.  Previously in the day, I checked out past reviews on this movie, which ranged from 1-3 stars.  Because of this, I didn't know what to expect, but kept an open mind.

Within the first fifteen minutes, I was hooked, and wanted to see how the movie ended.  This heartfelt movie will have you reaching for the tissue box, as well as smiling when you see how Emily and the dog bond and spend time together.  It reminded me of my relationships with my rescue dogs.  I don't think I would be able to hand them over to someone else, even if it was for a special needs dog service.  If you are a dog lover, you will understand how attached you get to your pet and how you feed off of their unconditional love.

My husband walked in halfway through the movie, after returning from the gym, and sat through the remainder of the film.  In the end, he asked if we were going to watch this again soon, as he wanted to see the beginning.  He, too, is a dog lover, and loved this heartwarming story.

So, even though it was only given 1-3 stars by others, my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, and were glad we sat down to watch it.  It is definitely a great family friendly movie to share for movie night.

Coming Soon to Miramax DVD -- The Big Man, Starring Liam Neeson (Review)

The Big Man: Crossing the Line
Releasing on DVD on July 17th
Rated: R

Synopsis:

Liam Neeson gives a knockout performance as Danny Scoular, a loving family man and out-of-work coal miner with a criminal record and one desperate option: a high-risk, bare-knuckles prizefight financed by the ruthless Glasgow underworld. But as Danny trains for the illegal brawl, his wife (Joanne Whalley-Kilmer) leaves with the children and seeks comfort in the arms of another (Hugh Grant). Can Danny win back both his dignity and his family?

My Thoughts:

My husband and I are hug Liam Neeson fans, and try and watch every movie he is in.  I was surprised with this re-release coming soon, as I had never heard about it until I received for review.  So, the other night, I surprised my husband with this movie as part of of in house date night.  When I asked if he had this movie before, he shook his head no.  We were in for a treat, then, as the cover art alone pulled us in and made us want to see how he crosses the line.

Based on a book by William Mcllvanney, this film, which was released in 1990, also features up and coming actor, Hugh Grant -- another one of my favorites.  Liam Neeson plays a miner who becomes unemployed during a union strike.  Looking to make money to help support his family, he agrees to fight in an illegal bare-knuckle boxing match.  Be warned that this boxing match is graphic and had me looking away during a few of the scenes.  My husband was surprised at how brutal this match was and how well they choreographed a fight scene like this from an an early 90's movie, as this time period was turning out cheesy fight scenes.

Even though the film revolves around his participating in this brutal bare-knuckle match, the movie overall is a drama and plays out as such.  If you were laid off and needed to support your family, would you participate in a fight like this?  I posed this question to  my husband, and after a short time, he didn't think he could last in a fight like this.

Throughout the film, we were both on the edge of our seats wondering what would happen next.  And, when Liam Neeson's character stepped into the ring to fight, we were both cheering him on, as if we were sitting on the sidelines.  Liam Neeson does an amazing portraying this down on his luck Scottish fella.  I am amazed at the different types of characters he can play, and how he nails each performance.  If you are a fan of Liam Neeson and haven't seen this movie, you much pick up a copy and watch it.  It is great seeing how he has evolved into the career he has now, from watching his early work.  We will definitely be watching this movie again!!

Jude is an excellent cook who is as dedicated to her girlfriend as she is to her bruschetta. Shelly is pregnant and emotional, and when her husband refuses to eat her lasagna, she begins to question their relationship. As the women sort out their individual issues, together they do their best to find a recipe for happiness.

My Thoughts:

If you follow my post, you know that many Friday Night Date Nights are spent at home, snuggling on the couch with my husband, watching movies, after we finally get the girls to bed.  With two children under the age of 2 at home, it is hard to get a babysitter to watch them, let alone have the desire and energy after a long, busy day with them, to want to go out.  So, we look forward to these movie nights and love stumbling across new and old movies, including those we missed in theaters.  So, when I was sent Something's Cooking to review for as part of Echo Bridge Entertainment's May releases, I was excited to watch this movie, as both my husband and I had never seen it.   When Friday rolled around last week, this was the movie we chose to watch, as we had a late night snack of pizza.

This film centers around cooking and relationships.  We watch 3 couples  relationship unfold and get examined by each other and their friends, as a meal is prepared in two separate kitchens.  This movie is easy to follow, and really makes you feel like you know these characters and can relate to the true-to-life subject matter discussed. My husband and I both looked at each other when one of the characters decided to order a pizza.  We laughed as we snacked on slices of pizza, instead of enjoying a home-cooked film, which is usually made and eaten during our Friday night movie nights.  I found myself rooting for each couple, who were in different stages of their relationships, hoping they would each make it and live happily ever after.  But, it was also nice to see that all couples have problems and hit bumps in the road along the way, wondering what direction each other is taking, and how their partner factors into this path.  You don't have to be woman to enjoy this film, as it is not a chick flick per sa.  My husband enjoyed the film, especially the bickering between the ladies. If you love independent/indie-type films, you will love this movie.

Synopsis

In 1957, baseball is at its peak as America's favorite pastime. For aging minor leaguer Roy Dean Bream (William Russ), whose dreams of pitching in the Majors died long ago, the love of the game is all that keeps him showing up season after season. But when the team signs rookie Tyrone Debray (Glenn Plummer), a 17-year-old from the wrong side of town, Bream sees someone with the potential to achieve what he never could. As an unlikely friendship develops across the boundaries of race and age, these two ballplayers will inspire each other to become more than they ever thought they could be.

My Thoughts:

I remember seeing this movie with my father back in the early 90's, when it was originally released.  I grew up with two older brothers, so baseball and other sports were always watched on television, or played in the backyard.  So, when I saw this movie last weekend with my husband, memories of my childhood, especially watching movies like this with my family came rushing back.  I loved this movie back then when I saw it, and again when I watched it again.  My husband is not a huge sports fan, which I should be happy about, as he doesn't hog the television on game nights.  But, whenever the Red Sox make it to the playoffs, we always tune it.  Even though these are the exciting time of the game, I often wonder what it is like for players off the field.  Are they really friends?  What bonds do they have?  In Pastime, we are introduced to Roy Dean Bream, played by William Russ, an aging pitcher, whose only dream was to make it to the major leagues.  Unfortunately, he was only able to pitch once in the majors, and spent his career in the minors.  His love for the game never died, and because of this, he befriends a 17-year old black youth.  At this time race was an issue.  But, this didn't stop Bream and this much younger ball player from forging a friendship and inspiring each other to become more than they each imagined.  This heartwarming film would make for a great family night movie.  Even if you don't like baseball, you will enjoy this touching film, that will inspire you to dream big, no matter you age.

My Thoughts:

I was sent a copy of each of these DVDs to watch with my family and have to say that it was hard choosing favorites.  I loved the selection of movies from each DVD, as many included family classics that I watched with my parents growing up.  Children of all ages, as well as adults will enjoy sitting down and watching these Miramax films.  And, if you are a parent who likes to screen movies before you let your little ones watch, no need to worry, as each of these combo DVDs offers wholesome movies that you will not have to cover your child's eyes or fast forward through, when watching.  Even though my children are too young to watch and understand these movies, I enjoyed watching them with my husband, as he never saw the majority of the titles.  I loved hearing his thoughts on each, which was always favorable.  And, when he told me his favorite film was White Fang, I couldn't help but smile because this was my favorite growing up.

Which of these family films will become your family's favorite?  I bet it will be hard to choose just one.  And, like I said, these DVDs, which are reasonably priced at $14.99, will make for a great Easter gift.  Why rent, when you can own wonderful family classics today?  Click here to order the above titles, or other Echo Bridge Home Entertainment DVDs today.
