Get Into the Holiday Spirit with the New Nickelodeon Favorites: A Very Nick Jr. Christmas DVD -- Review and #Giveaway
Are you ready for it? There are only 55 days until Christmas. While that may seem like a ways away, it really isn't in grand scheme of things, as many stores are already selling out of hot toys for Christmas, and even before we say goodbye to Halloween, stores are already putting up Christmas trees and decorations. Before you know it, the Christmas rush will be here.
Just last night, after I got the girls to bed, I was flipping through the channels and found a handful of channels already airing Christmas movies. Wow, they seem to be doing this earlier and earlier as the years go by. But, I don't mind, as Christmas is my favorite time of year. I especially love watching the holiday movies, as do my girls. So, when received Nickelodeon Favorites: A Very Nick Jr. Christmas on DVD a couple of weeks ago, you can only imagine how excited my girls were. They were quick to start asking if Santa was coming and how many more days until Christmas. Then, they rushed to the dining room table to start on their wish lists, thinking if Santa got it early enough, he would have ample time to work on their toys. Gotta love kids! :-)
- Blaze and the Monster Machines - "Monster Machine Christmas" - It's Christmas Eve and Blaze and AJ are helping Santa and his elves load his magic bag full of presents to deliver all over the world. Crusher wants to open his present early and sends all the presents flying away while sneaking into Santa's bag. It's up to Blaze, AJ and Crusher to rescue the presents and deliver them all before Christmas morning.
- Shimmer and Shine - "Santa's Little Genies" - It's ChristmasEve and Leah forgot to mail Zac's letter to Santa. When she calls on Shimmer and Shine to help deliver the letter, they transport her to the North Pole where Leah can deliver the letter to Santa in person. After Leah accidentally wishes Santa to a tropical island, it's up to the girls to deliver the presents and save Christmas.
- Dora and Friends: Into the City! - "Shivers the Snowman" - Dora and friends help a brave but lost snowman named Shivers keep his promise of always going back to his friend Carolina.
- Bubble Guppies - "A Very Guppy Christmas!" - When Mr. Grouper's van gets stuck in the holiday snow, Mr. Claws and his horse Snowflake come to the rescue. As snow falls and bells jingle, the Bubble Guppies will experience their first sleigh ride.
- Wallykazam! - "Wally Saves the Trollidays" - Bobgoblin gets his hands on the Jingle Troll's sack of magical wishes.
- Wallykazam! - "Snow Place Like Home" - Wally and Norville discover a lost baby dragon and have to help him find his home.

JUST IN TIME FOR THE HOLIDAYS – ALL NEW VEGGIETALES® MERRY LARRY AND THE TRUE LIGHT OF CHRISTMAS FEATURING SI ROBERTSON AND OWL CITY (Review)
This new release will introduce VeggieTales fans to the newest Veggie character, Silas the Okra, voiced by Si Robertson from Duck Commander! In addition, your family will enjoy singing and dancing to the upbeat Christmas tune Light of Christmas from Owl City featuring TobyMac.
My Thoughts:
Both of my daughters are finally at the age that they are understanding and getting into the holidays. While Arabella still doesn't grasp that once a holiday is over like Halloween, that you have to wait until next year to celebrate it again. She kept asking this past weekend if we could go trick or treating again and see the pumpkin display down the street. Because holidays are starting to hold meaning for them, I have been looking for books and movies to share with them, to help them understand the next major holiday coming up -- Christmas. They know that if they are good that Santa will come and leave them toys. But, I sat them down this weekend and talked to them about why we really celebrate Christmas -- the birth of Christ. To help them understand what I was talking about, I played the new Veggie Tales movie that recently releases, "VeggieTales: Merry Larry and the True Light of Christmas." The girls, as well as my nieces and nephews love the VeggieTales movies, so they were excited to see this new movie. This new holiday film does a great job of reminding children (and parents) about what Christmas is really about.
Narrated by Si Robertson, AKA the Duck Commander, who plays a janitor named Silas the Okra, we follow along on Bob the Tomato and Mr. Lunt are hired to decorate the mall for Christmas. While decorating, they run into "Merry Larry," who is volunteering at the mall as a Christmas elf. Out of the three, "Merry Larry" is the only one who understands what Christmas is all about, and he tries to get Bob the Tomato and Mr. Lunt to spend their time helping others. The story of Christ's birth and the friendly reminder to help others without expecting something in return resonates with the story. Viewers both young and old will enjoy this story, which is filled with holiday cheer, festive lights, amazing animation and a story line easy for all (especially the younger audience) to understand and appreciate.
We will definitely be watching this movie again as the holiday draws near, and will be adding it to our must see annual Christmas video collection. If your family is a fan of VeggieTales, you will want to pick up a copy of this new release, if you haven't already. :-) Or, if you are looking for a fun way to teach your children about the true meaning of Christmas, without pushing too much religion on them, this is the movie that will help share the story of Christ's birth.

Must See Holiday Movies–ICE AGE: A MAMMOTH CHRISTMAS (Now on Blu-ray and DVD)
KICK OFF THE HOLIDAY SEASON WITH MAMMOTH SIZED FAMILY FUN
A perfect family gift for the holidays, ICE AGE: A MAMMOTH CHRISTMAS landed on Blu-ray and DVD November 26 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and features the original voice talents of Ray Romano, Queen Latifah, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary and Sean William Scott. Available for a low price ICE AGE: A MAMMOTH CHRISTMAS arrives on single disc DVD and a Blu-ray, DVD and digital copy combo pack with extra features, making it a great holiday stocking stuffer for the whole family to enjoy.
In ICE AGE: A MAMMOTH CHRISTMAS, America’s favorite arctic herd is busy decorating for the holiday season. In his rush to help, Sid (John Leguizamo) destroys Manny’s (Ray Romano) favorite decorations. Manny is so upset he convinces Sid he is now on Santa’s naughty list. Sid, Crash (Seann William Scott), Eddie (Josh Peck) and Peaches (Ciara Bravo) take off for the North Pole to plead their case to Santa (Billy Gardell). Meanwhile, Manny, Ellie (Queen Latifah) and Diego (Denis Leary), worry over Peaches’ safety and race to find her. Back at the North Pole, Sid and his crew accidentally destroy Santa’s Workshop on Christmas Eve, and it’s up to these newfound friends to orchestrate a Christmas miracle. The instant holiday classic, directed by Karen Disher, also features the voice talent of Chris Wedge, T.J. Miller and Judah Friedlander.
With over $4 billion in box office, home entertainment and consumer products sales, the “Ice Age” franchise is a perennial hit, and continues to grow with next summer’s all-new animated feature “Ice Age: Continental Drift.” From Twentieth Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios, the film features new characters voiced by Jennifer Lopez, Wanda Sykes, Keke Palmer, Aziz Ansari and Drake, among others. Share in the all-new adventure as they join the original cast voiced by John Leguizamo, Ray Romano, Seann William Scott, Queen Latifah and Denis Leary. “Ice Age: Continental Drift” arrives in theaters everywhere July 13, 2012 in 3D.
My Thoughts:
My family just loves the Ice Age movies and watching Scrat chase after his prized acorn. So, when we saw that there was a Christmas special coming to DVD we had to pick it up and add to our movie collection. This movie played on television Thanksgiving night, and we absolutely loved it. We couldn’t stop laughing and smiling. And, only being 25 minutes in length, this was a perfect length to keep Savannah entertained and engaged.
If your family loves the Ice Age movies and short films about Scrat and his acorn adventures, you will definitely love this holiday DVD.
