Now Available on DVD -- When Calls the Heart: The Heart of Faith from Shout! Factory (Review)

Disclosure: I was sent a screener copy from the vendor in order to write up an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.

I can't believe next week will April.  Boy has this year flown by so far.  Pretty soon we will be thinking about Christmas again.  I just finished paying off Christmas from last year, and even found a decoration I forgot to take down the other day, that the girls noticed and pointed out.  It was funny, I left the wreath on the front door, and after I took it down, I went to the mailbox and found When Calls the Heart: The Heart of Faith which arrived on DVD from Shout! Factory to review.  This was one of my favorite Hallmark Channel Christmas movies I watched last year, and was excited to be able to add it to my growing When Calls the Heart DVD collection.

Are you a fan of the When Calls the Heart movies?  They first air on Hallmark Channel and then are released to DVD.  If you have never seen one of these movies, but are a fan of period dramas like Anne of Green Gables, then you will love When Calls the Heart movies.  My mom was first to turn me on to these movies when she picked up a DVD and gave to me for Mother's Day last year.  After that I was hooked and had to pick up the other movies in this series to watch and enjoy.

I love watching this movies and sharing them with my mom. Then, we chat on the phone while sipping tea, talking about our favorite characters and parts of the story lines.  We both enjoyed this new release, which we watched in December when she was here to help put the tree up with the girls and make Christmas cookies.   It really did get us excited about the holiday season and enjoying time with family.  So, it was nice last night to curl up on the couch with cozy blanket after the girls went to bed and watch this again.  I found myself enjoying it more as I didn't have the stresses of the holidays and all the to-do lists I had going in December, on my mind. And, this AM I called my mom and told her what I watched and how next time I see her would let her borrow and watch again.  She is excited to watch again, and like me can't wait for another When Calls the Heart to release soon, so we can keep up with Elizabeth (played by Lori Loughlin) and Jack (played by Jack Wagner).

With Mother's Day fast approaching, the When Calls the Heart would make for a great gift to share with that special mom in your life.  Add the DVDs to a gift basket with new tea cup and tea sachets, maybe a journal or note cards to write handwritten letters with.  This is one gift they will enjoy and one that will have you both talking about this popular Hallmark Channel series.

More about this DVD release:

"The love story blooming in Hope Valley continues with the television special When Calls the Heart: The Heart of Faith on DVD from Shout! Factory, which released back on March 21, 2017.

From celebrated author Janette Oke (The Love Comes Softly series) comes a rigorous and romantic adventure as epic as the wide frontier. Erin Krakow (Army Wives), Daniel Lissing (Eye Candy), Jack Wagner (Melrose Place) and Lori Loughlin (Full House, 90210) star in When CallsThe Heart: The Heart Of Faith, a beautiful story (originally released as The Heart Of Christmas).

Christmas is coming to Hope Valley and everyone’s in a festive mood. Rosemary and Lee have returned from their honeymoon to reside in their new row house next to Elizabeth, who’s busy helping her students mount a nativity play. A travelling peddler, Sam, is mistaken for Santa by the kids… and then mistaken for a thief by Jack! But Elizabeth is stunned when word arrives that the supply train has derailed. Without costumes for the play, food for the feast and presents for the kids, Christmas will be ruined! It takes a lot of faith, spirit, and the cooperation of friends and family to show Hope Valley what Christmas is all about!

Executive produced by Michael Landon Jr., When Calls the Heart currently airs on The Hallmark Channel.

Get Into the Holiday Spirit with the New Nickelodeon Favorites: A Very Nick Jr. Christmas DVD -- Review and #Giveaway

Disclosure:  I was sent a screener copy from the vendor in order to write up an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.

SPREAD SOME HOLIDAY CHEER WITH FRIENDLY AND
FESTIVE NICKELODEON PRESCHOOL FRIENDS

Are you ready for it?  There are only 55 days until Christmas.  While that may seem like a ways away, it really isn't in grand scheme of things, as many stores are already selling out of hot toys for Christmas, and even before we say goodbye to Halloween, stores are already putting up Christmas trees and decorations.  Before you know it, the Christmas rush will be here.
Just last night, after I got the girls to bed, I was flipping through the channels and found a handful of channels already airing Christmas movies. Wow, they seem to be doing this earlier and earlier as the years go by. But, I don't mind, as Christmas is my favorite time of year.  I especially love watching the holiday movies, as do my girls.  So, when received Nickelodeon Favorites: A Very Nick JrChristmas on DVD a couple of weeks ago, you can only imagine how excited my girls were.  They were quick to start asking if Santa was coming and how many more days until Christmas.  Then, they rushed to the dining room table to start on their wish lists, thinking if Santa got it early enough, he would have ample time to work on their toys.  Gotta love kids! :-)

When the girls were finished with their long wish lists, they asked for me to put this DVD on.  They were so excited to watch the full-length holiday themed episodes. And, by the characters on the cover of the DVD -- all of whom they love, they knew they were in for a treat.  The DVD itself has a run time of 137 minutes and contains the following episodes from some of your child's favorite Nick Jr. shows...
  • Blaze and the Monster Machines - "Monster Machine Christmas" - It's Christmas Eve and Blaze and AJ are helping Santa and his elves load his magic bag full of presents to deliver all over the world. Crusher wants to open his present early and sends all the presents flying away while sneaking into Santa's bag. It's up to Blaze, AJ and Crusher to rescue the presents and deliver them all before Christmas morning.
  • Shimmer and Shine - "Santa's Little Genies" - It's ChristmasEve and Leah forgot to mail Zac's letter to Santa. When she calls on Shimmer and Shine to help deliver the letter, they transport her to the North Pole where Leah can deliver the letter to Santa in person. After Leah accidentally wishes Santa to a tropical island, it's up to the girls to deliver the presents and save Christmas.
  • Dora and Friends: Into the City! - "Shivers the Snowman" - Dora and friends help a brave but lost snowman named Shivers keep his promise of always going back to his friend Carolina.
  • Bubble Guppies - "A Very Guppy Christmas!" - When Mr. Grouper's van gets stuck in the holiday snow, Mr. Claws and his horse Snowflake come to the rescue. As snow falls and bells jingle, the Bubble Guppies will experience their first sleigh ride.
  • Wallykazam! - "Wally Saves the Trollidays" - Bobgoblin gets his hands on the Jingle Troll's sack of magical wishes.
  • Wallykazam! - "Snow Place Like Home" - Wally and Norville discover a lost baby dragon and have to help him find his home.

While Savannah was bummed that there were no Paw Patrol episodes, she did say she loved all the other episodes including Shimmer and Shine and Bubble Guppies.  When I asked Bella if she had a favorite episode, she thought for a moment, before telling me it was so hard to choose just one, as she loved them all. :-)

We have had this DVD for a couple now, and I have lost count on how many times the girls have watched it.  I do know a couple days in a row they watched it in the AM and then right before bed.  It is that good!

So, if you have a Nick Jr. fan in your house and looking to add some new holiday DVDs to your family's growing collection, why not pick up this recent DVD release to enjoy with your family.  It is the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit as you start to count down the days until Christmas.  Fifty five and counting, remember! :-)

My Thoughts:

Both of my daughters are finally at the age that they are understanding and getting into the holidays.  While Arabella still doesn't grasp that once a holiday is over like Halloween, that you have to wait until next year to celebrate it again.  She kept asking this past weekend if we could go trick or treating again and see the pumpkin display down the street.  Because holidays are starting to hold meaning for them, I have been looking for books and movies to share with them, to help them understand the next major holiday coming up -- Christmas.  They know that if they are good that Santa will come and leave them toys.  But, I sat them down this weekend and talked to them about why we really celebrate Christmas -- the birth of Christ.  To help them understand what I was talking about, I played the new Veggie Tales movie that recently releases, "VeggieTales: Merry Larry and the True Light of Christmas."  The girls, as well as my nieces and nephews love the VeggieTales movies, so they were excited to see this new movie.  This new holiday film does a great job of reminding children (and parents) about what Christmas is really about.

Narrated by Si Robertson, AKA the Duck Commander, who plays a janitor named Silas the Okra, we follow along on Bob the Tomato and Mr. Lunt are hired to decorate the mall for Christmas.  While decorating, they run into "Merry Larry," who is volunteering at the mall as a Christmas elf.  Out of the three, "Merry Larry" is the only one who understands what Christmas is all about, and he tries to get Bob the Tomato and Mr. Lunt to spend their time helping others.  The story of Christ's birth and the friendly reminder to help others without expecting something in return resonates with the story.  Viewers both young and old will enjoy this story, which is filled with holiday cheer, festive lights, amazing animation and a story line easy for all (especially the younger audience) to understand and appreciate.

We will definitely be watching this movie again as the holiday draws near, and will be adding it to our must see annual Christmas video collection.  If your family is a fan of VeggieTales, you will want to pick up a copy of this new release, if you haven't already. :-)  Or, if you are looking for a fun way to teach your children about the true meaning of Christmas, without pushing too much religion on them, this is the movie that will help share the story of Christ's birth.

image

KICK OFF THE HOLIDAY SEASON WITH  MAMMOTH SIZED FAMILY FUN

A perfect family gift for the holidays, ICE AGE: A MAMMOTH CHRISTMAS landed on Blu-ray and DVD November 26 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and features the original voice talents of Ray Romano, Queen Latifah, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary and Sean William Scott.  Available for a low price ICE AGE: A MAMMOTH CHRISTMAS arrives on single disc DVD and a Blu-ray, DVD and digital copy combo pack with extra features, making it a great holiday stocking stuffer for the whole family to enjoy.

In ICE AGE: A MAMMOTH CHRISTMAS, America’s favorite arctic herd is busy decorating for the holiday season.  In his rush to help, Sid (John Leguizamo) destroys Manny’s (Ray Romano) favorite decorations.  Manny is so upset he convinces Sid he is now on Santa’s naughty list.  Sid, Crash (Seann William Scott), Eddie (Josh Peck) and Peaches (Ciara Bravo) take off for the North Pole to plead their case to Santa (Billy Gardell).  Meanwhile, Manny, Ellie (Queen Latifah) and Diego (Denis Leary), worry over Peaches’ safety and race to find her.  Back at the North Pole, Sid and his crew accidentally destroy Santa’s Workshop on Christmas Eve, and it’s up to these newfound friends to orchestrate a Christmas miracle.  The instant holiday classic, directed by Karen Disher, also features the voice talent of Chris Wedge, T.J. With over $4 billion in box office, home entertainment and consumer products sales, the “Ice Age” franchise is a perennial hit, and continues to grow with next summer’s all-new animated feature “Ice Age: Continental Drift.”  From Twentieth Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios, the film features new characters voiced by Jennifer Lopez, Wanda Sykes, Keke Palmer, Aziz Ansari and Drake, among others.  Share in the all-new adventure as they join the original cast voiced by John Leguizamo, Ray Romano, Seann William Scott, Queen Latifah and Denis Leary.  “Ice Age: Continental Drift” arrives in theaters everywhere July 13, 2012 in 3D.

My Thoughts:

My family just loves the Ice Age movies and watching Scrat chase after his prized acorn.  So, when we saw that there was a Christmas special coming to DVD we had to pick it up and add to our movie collection.  This movie played on television Thanksgiving night, and we absolutely loved it.  We couldn’t stop laughing and smiling.  And, only being 25 minutes in length, this was a perfect length to keep Savannah entertained and engaged.

If your family loves the Ice Age movies and short films about Scrat and his acorn adventures, you will definitely love this holiday DVD.
