It isn't a holiday gift guide without including ornaments from Old World Christmas. I have been collecting these ornaments since I was a teen, and started the annual ornament gifting tradition with my two girls when they born, so that by the time they move out on their own, they will have enough ornaments to decorate their first tree. And, each and every ornament will carry a story or meaning behind them. Usually I will pick one special Old World Christmas ornament for each of them, and then have them browse the website and pick one that they love each year. My oldest has always gone with animal themed ornaments, while my youngest likes the playful food or nostalgia type ornaments. Then, when it comes time to put the tree up each year, I will hand them the ornament they picked out for themselves, and then share the one I chose and explain my reasoning behind it. It is a fun way to get into the holiday spirit and spend quality time together, especially now that the girls are teenagers and would rather be hanging out with their friends or in their bedrooms on their devices, rather than spending time with Mom and Dad.
So, what ornaments did I gift my girls this year? For my oldest, I went with the bobcat head ornament as this is what she was for Halloween and has been drawing a lot of bobcats in her free time. She really liked the realistic look and feel of this ornament and how detailed it was.
As for my youngest daughter, like her mom :-) , she is all about Taylor Swift. So, I couldn't help but get the "Swiftea" mug ornament. We are both in a bunch of FB Taylor Swift fan groups, and this ornament has been a hot commodity with people trying to get their hands on it, after learning about it.
Besides supporting small businesses run by fans who make their own Taylor-themed ornaments and clothing to sell, it is nice to find playful and fun ornaments like this mug ornament from Old World Christmas. And, just like Taylor, it is sparkly and is a great way to sum up this past year and Taylor's success with the Era's tour. My daughter and I have been watching grainy live streams with so many other fans on YouTube and Instagram or the tour, so this ornament will be a fun reminder not only of the Era's tour, but of the quality time we spent together making friendship beaded bracelets to leave next to her cd's and vinyls at the stores or to gift to fans from all over the state who like to trade bracelets, to making some of Taylor's own recipe like her chai cookies and cinnamon buns. I ended up picking up another one of the "Swiftea" my ornaments so that I could hang mine next to my daughter's on the tree like two peas in a pod. And, it will be a great reminder and walk down memory lane years from now, when I hang this ornament on the tree after the trees are off on their own, and reminisce back when Taylor Swift brought together so many people over their love of her music, and had families spending quality time together listening and dancing along to her music. This is one ornament that I will truly cherish for years to come.
In addition to the ornaments I gifted my girls, we also added another dog-themed ornament to our tree, as we rescued a senior dog in April. Georgie came to us from Georgia, and while she is 13+ years old, she is our baby, and we are so happy we can give her a forever home and love on her for however long she has left. She is also our most neediest dog due to all the trauma she has been through, as she now has social anxiety and separation anxiety issues and can't be left alone. Whenever she isn't being carried around by one of us, or strolled in her stronger, as her little legs aren't strong enough to handle long walks in the park, she loves curling up in a ball and being wrapped up in our arms and warm blankets, before falling asleep. So, when I saw the chubby chihuahua ornament from Old World Christmas, I knew this would be the perfect ornament to remind us of Georgie.
While she is only 11 pounds and the smallest rescue dog we have owned, she was bred a lot and has excess rolls around her neck and belly which make her look chubby. But, she does a great job at still looking stylish while hiding her "rolls" under her sweaters and dresses. :-)
My girls and I really love when fall rolls around each year, not because of the leaves changing color or the weather getting cold...but, because we love to see what new ornaments Old World Christmas is releasing for the holidays. We love browsing the 1700+ ornaments to find just the right ornament that will be added to the girls' growing ornament collection. Then, we count down until the day we put up our Christmas tree and get to go through each and every ornament sharing stories and reminiscing as we hang each out. If you are looking to start a fun new tradition with your family, why not consider gifting your kids with an ornament from Old World Christmas? Choose one that sums up their likes or passions or reminds you of them. And, then each year thereafter and another ornament, until it is time to let them spread their wings and move out. They can take their ornament collection with them for their first Christmas in their new place, and not have to worry about buying ornaments to adorn the tree. They will have fun pulling each ornament out and thinking about it's sentimental value. My girls really like this tradition, and I know your kids will, too.
Or, if you are still struggling to find the perfect gift for that hard to shop for person, why not gift them one of the new Old World Christmas ornaments for 2024? They can't say they have it, and like I say..."You can't have too many ornament!" :-) Enjoy browsing through the different ornaments available, ranging from traditional, to whimsical and even some great pop culture favorites by visiting www.oldworldchristmas.com.
