My girls love waking on Christmas to check their stockings.  They know that they can't open their presents until my husband and I are awake, but their stocking are always laid out in front of the tree for them to enjoy while they wait.  And, my girls know that instead of a stocking full of candy and sweets, that Santa will be filling them with new books for them to read and enjoy. And, this year is no different.  There are so many great children's book releases -- Santa may need to get them a bigger stocking to include all the good books. :-)  I find that after all the presents are opened in our house, the girls usually gravitate back towards their stockings to take out a book, and then sit on the couch and read, while I bake up cinnamon rolls for all to enjoy.  

If your kids love to read, why not consider picking up a few new books to add their stocking. One book that will be a hit with middle grade chapter book readers is the recent Diary of a Wimpy Kid Diaper Overlode release that came out the end of October.  My youngest daughter is a huge fan of this series and the author, Jeff Kinney, so when she saw this book arrive at our door for review, she was quick to grab it and offer to read and review it for me.  In under an hour she had the book read cover to cover, and then came down to tell me all about it, including her favorite illustrations and parts.  We spent COVID watching all the Diary of a Wimpy live action movies as a family and couldn't stop laughing. Now the girls watch over and over again the two animated movies that released to Disney+, including Rodrick Rules, which just released on December 2nd. My girls had been counting down the days for this release since seeing the trailer. And, after reading this new book, it made them even more excited to see it, as they love the character Rodrick.

If your child collects all the Diary of Wimpy Kid books, then you will definitely want to pick up this new release, if you haven't already.  My daughter has read this book a few times since we received it, and grabbed it from the bookshelf this evening to start reading it again before bed.  

These books never get boring with the kids. And, if your child struggles to read or isn't a fan of reading, these books with their silly drawing illustrations on every page make for an easier and more enjoyable read.  My youngest always put up a fight when I asked her to read each evening.  It wasn't until we borrowed a Diary of Wimpy Kid book that she fell in love with reading and didn't want to stop.
