Were you a fan of Russell Simmons' Def Comedy Jam, which aired on HBO back in the 90's? I remember watching this variety comedy show for the first time with my oldest brother and laughing so hard I was crying. I used to like staying up past midnight on Friday and Saturdays as that meant all the good talk shows were on, followed by comedy stand up shows. But once they started to air Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam in the winter of 1992, I made a point to tune in each Friday at midnight. Even when I went off to college a couple years later, I made a point to keep my Fridays at midnight free so that I could watch this show. I remember having all my dorm floor mates in my room on Friday nights watching this show and laughing along with me. We were introduced to so many great up and coming comedians like Tiffany Haddish, Tracy Morgan, Steve Harvey and Bernie Mac. Whenever a comedian took to the stage on their show you knew you were in for non-stop laughs for their set.
Years later when I get together with college friends or chat with them online, we always get to talking about our Friday nights and how we used to watch Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam together. It made studying for exams and getting through college drama easier and with lots of laughs.
