One thing I miss from getting rid of cable is missing out on all the classic holiday movies that air when Christmas and other major holidays roll around. They usually air these timeless holidays classics on ABC or NBC, and without a cable subscription you'll luck out when they air. I still have fond memories of growing up and sitting around the television near Christmas watching Frosty, Rudolph and Santa Claus is Comin' to Town, and The Little Drummer Boy. It was a tradition we had in our house, that we would enjoy fresh baked cookies and hot chocolate while watching these movies. And, now that I have a family of my own, I have incorporated some of my childhood Christmas traditions including watching these timeless holiday specials with my girls.
I don't know how many VHS and DVD's we went through over the years, as they would get stretched out or scratched and skip while watching the movies. And, it seemed like every time I bought a replacement copy, they could come out the following year with a collection of these movies all on on DVD, or remastered the films for better viewing. This collection of movies makes for a great way to count down the days until Christmas, or wrap and use for a week (watching one movie a night) as part of your family's movie advent countdown.
