Two New Chapter Book Releases from Candlewick Press That Will Make for a Great Read for Young Adult Readers This Holiday Season (Review)

Disclosure: I was sent a review copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.

The cold weather has set in and that makes for the perfect time to snuggle up under a warm blanket and read a new book. And, for young chapter readers, I have two great new releases from Candlewick Press, that will entertain them, and get their imaginations going, as they see the stories come alive in their heads.  My girls recently read both of these books, both in one sitting, and continue to talk about them, and rave about them to friends who are looking for new book recommendations.

"The Clockwork Crow" is the perfect book to pick up and share with your chapter book reader, as a way to welcome in the holidays.  Set, in a wintery backdrop, this book takes place right before Christmas.  This is a part fantasy, part mystery book, and will delight even the most reluctant of readers, and want them to keep reading to see what happens next. Both of my girls read this book, after I read it, and came back and said they loved Siren, the main character, as like her, they like to play detective and solve mysteries or who done it in real life and in books. And, this book has a mystery to solve about the mystery parcel handed to her at the train station, followed by what happened to Tomos and the fairies.  This truly is a page turner that will make for a great read this holiday season.  My girls can't wait to read this book again, and want to pass it along to their friends so that they can read and then talk about together.

About this book:

"Orphan Seren Rhys is on her way to a new life at the remote country mansion of Plas-y Fran when she is given a package by a stranger late at night in an empty train station. The package contains a crotchety, mechanical talking crow, which Seren reluctantly brings to her new home. But when she gets there, the happy Christmas she had hoped for turns out to be an illusion—the young son of the house, Tomos, has been missing for almost a year, rumored to have been taken by the fairies. With the Crow’s reluctant help and a little winter magic, Seren sets off on a perilous journey to bring Tomos home. An enthralling story of family and belonging set in frost-bound Victorian Wales.

Evoking the classic fantasy adventures of Joan Aiken and Eva Ibbotson, this darkly delightful new novel from New York Times best-selling author Catherine Fisher glimmers with winter magic."

My oldest daughter became a fan of the author after reading two of her other Jasmine Green Rescues books, one of which was "A Collie Called Sky,"  So, when she saw me receive this new release in the mail, which is all about a kitten named, Holly, she was all smiles, as she loves animals, especially dogs and cats.

This book would be perfect for younger chapter readers, around 7-10 years old.  It has playful black and white illustrations that will keep the reader engaged, and imaging the story further in their heads.  My girls love rescue animal books and this one is really a well written one that is easy to understand, and will warm your kids heart and make them love and want to help animals like Jasmine and Tom do when they find an animal in need.  My daughter read this book in one sitting, and then passed it off to her sister to read, so that they could talk all about it.  My youngest really got into the book, too, and said if she had found this kitten alone, she would bring it home and hope that we would give it a forever home. :-)

I highly recommend this beginner chapter book, and know animal lover readers will love this book and want to read it time and time again. My girls have already read it a few times, and have picked up more books in the series, and want to get more to complete the series, as they wait for further books to release to pick up and add to their growing Jasmine Green Rescues books.

About this book:

"Animal lover Jasmine Green is back to rescue an adorable kitten, just in time for the holidays.

On her family’s farm, Jasmine and her best friend, Tom, find the ideal clubhouse for their animal rescue group. But much to their surprise, the shed is already home to a feral cat and her three kittens. When the mother cat leaves, abandoning one of her babies, Jasmine and Tom feel compelled to step in and raise the tiny kitten.

But with a house full of rescued animals—and a veterinarian mother who has reached her limit—will Jasmine be able to keep another pet? Or is it someone else’s turn to make a new animal friend? A holiday backdrop and some lighthearted family mayhem add to the charm of this feline-focused addition to the Jasmine Green Rescues series—perfect for readers who think that animals are the best gift of all."
