Disclosure: I was sent a screener from the vendor in exchange for an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.

Kick off 2020 with a fun family movie night, complete with a tasty pie pop treat inspired by the Disney movie, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, which is available starting today on 4K and Blu-ray. It released previously to digital back on December 31st.

This is one movie that my girls and I have been eagerly awaiting its arrival to Blu-ray, so that we could pick it up and watch it again, as well as add to our Disney Maleficent collection, which we hope will grow with more releases, like this one.  If you missed this movie when it was in theaters, or are new to the whole Maleficent phenomenon which stars Angelina Jolie as Disney most iconic villain, here is more information about this new release, which also includes brand new bonus features, extended scenes, outtakes, and even an exclusive extra for digital consumers...

"Ring in the new year with Disney’s most iconic villain: “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” — which soared to No. 1 worldwide opening weekend and earned an A CinemaScore and a 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes — releases on Digital in HD and 4K Ultra HD™ and Movies Anywhere on New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, and physically on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray™ and DVD on Jan. 14, 2020. The thrilling sequel to 2014’s “Maleficent,” starring Angelina Jolie as Maleficent and Elle Fanning as her goddaughter Aurora, arrives home with brand-new bonus features, extended scenes, outtakes and an exclusive extra for Digital consumers.

Bonus features take viewers behind-the-scenes with the all-star cast to explore the making of “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.” Extended scenes reveal how Queen Ingrith (Michelle Pfeiffer) manipulates Aurora into questioning Maleficent and accelerating her wedding plans. Featurettes include interviews with Jolie, who discusses Maleficent’s origins and the cast who portray the Fey, and Fanning, who gushes over Aurora’s fairytale wedding. Filmmakers showcase the visual effects behind the film’s stunning landscapes and the seemingly effortless flight of the Fey. Additional extras include “You Can’t Stop The Girl,” a music video performed by Bebe Rexha, and hilarious outtakes, ranging from uncooperative cats to uncontrollable giggles on set.

Fans who purchase “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” on Digital will gain access to an exclusive extra in which fantasy-film veteran Warwick Davis divulges the backstory for his character, Lickspittle. Directed by Joachim Rønning, “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” carries on the story of Disney's most iconic villain. The years have been kind to Maleficent and Aurora. Their relationship, born of heartbreak, revenge and ultimately love, has flourished. Yet hatred between man and the fairies still exists. Aurora's impending marriage to Prince Philip is cause for celebration as the wedding serves to unite the Kingdom of Ulstead and the neighboring Moors. But, when an unexpected encounter introduces a powerful new alliance, Maleficent and Aurora are pulled apart to opposing sides in a Great War, testing their loyalties and causing them to question whether they can truly be a family.

“Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” will be packaged and released in several different formats, ensuring each member of your family can enjoy it on a variety of different devices. Viewers can watch the film in Digital 4K Ultra HD, HD and SD, and bring home a physical copy of the film which will be released as an Ultimate Collector’s Edition (4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and Digital Code), a Multi-Screen Edition (Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Code) and a single DVD. A Digital bundle with both “Maleficent” and “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” will be available at pre-order."

My girls and I had a mother/daughter lunch and movie date to see this movie when it was in theaters, and we loved it!  I wasn't a fan of the first Maleficent movie, but I really got hooked on it after seeing this movie, as it did an amazing job at showing the mother/daughter relationship between Aurora and Maleficent.  As with any Disney movie, this movie was filled with many catchy songs throughout, that my girls were singing on the way home from the movies, and had them asking Alexa to play them long after we saw the movie, so that they could dance and sing along to the movie.  In addition to loving the music and wanting to own the CD soundtrack, my girls were also quick to ask me to add this movie to our list of movies to buy when they arrive to Blu-ray and DVD.  My youngest not only wanted to add it to her previous Maleficent release, but really liked this one.  Both girls agreed it was their favorite to date.  They really like Angelina Jolie plays the evil Maleficent.  It was like this role was made for her in mind, and she plays it so well.

Even though we saw this movie in theaters, we couldn't wait to see it again (and again) in the comfort of our home, while enjoying a tasty pie pop treat the girls made earlier in the day, to enjoy with the movie.  Read on to get the recipe for a super easy and oh so delicious pie pop treats. :-)  Usually I wait until Fridays to have Family Movie Night, but when we received the advanced copy of this movie yesterday, I couldn't help but clear our schedule so that we could watch it after dinner.  I knew it would be a great way to end the night, and kick off the week, and boy was it.  Not only was it great to see the movie again, but the bonus content included with the Blu-ray release is amazing, and worth picking up if you are a Disney Maleficent fan, just to watch the extended scenes, outtakes and more.

Just look at all the great bonus content included with this new release...

Bonus features include*:

Lickspittle – Fantasy-film veteran Warwick Davis considers how every aspect of the film's design inspired his tragic character.

·                  Extended Scenes
o    The Queen Comforts Aurora - Queen Ingrith takes advantage of Aurora’s fragile state to gain her confidence and accelerate the wedding plans.
o    Philip and Aurora Dance - Aurora struggles to gain Queen Ingrith’s approval when she realizes how she is viewed among aristocracy.
·                  Featurettes
o    Origins of the Fey - Angelina Jolie discusses Maleficent’s lore, her newly discovered origins, and the diversity of the cast who portray the Fey.
o    Aurora’s Wedding - Elle Fanning gushes over Aurora’s fairytale wedding; plus, hear from some special guests as they give their best to the bride and groom.

o    If You Had Wings - Get a glimpse of the elaborate visual effects that allow the Fey to take to the skies.
o    “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” VFX Reel – Discover how a perfect blend of practical and visual effects were used to create the stunning landscapes in “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.”
·                  Outtakes - Uncooperative cats, a serious case of the giggles and even the “floss dance” found their way into Ulstead.
·                  “You Can’t Stop The Girl” - Music video performed by Bebe Rexha

We really enjoyed watching the featurettes and have played and sung along to the Bebe Rexha music video a handful of times so far. It is just a great and uplifting song for girls especially, that once you hear it, you can't help want to listen to it again, to sing and dance along to.  When Friday rolls around, I know what movie we will be watching for our weekly family movie night....Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.  We can't get enough of this movie, and can't wait to watch it again.  If you missed it in theaters, then you have to get your hands on a copy of this movie, now available in stores and in digital format, to watch with your family.  Out of the two Maleficent movies, I have to say that this one is my favorite.  I can't wait to see if you feel the same way after watching it, too. :-)
