Now Available to Own on CD from Capitol/UMe: Frank Sinatra's 'My Way' 50th Anniversary Edition And 'Sinatra Sings Alan & Marilyn Bergman' Set (Review)

Disclosure: I was sent review copies from the vendor in exchange for an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.

Do you have a favorite singer?  Even though I like listening to all the new artists on the radio, thanks in part to my girls listening to pop and rock channels in the car, when I am on my own in the car or blogging late at night, I usually have a few CDs or play lists I enjoy listening to.  And, one artist that is usually in the mix is Frank Sinatra.  I grew up listening to Frank Sinatra in the backseat of my parents' car, and fell in love with this crooner and his melodious voice.  And, over the years, I have picked up all the new Frank Sinatra CD releases to add to my growing Frankie CD collection.  Even though many of the CDs I own have the same songs, some are different or remastered versions, while other CDS have a compilation of tracks that are hard to come back or not previously released.  So, when I read a press release that came through my email box last month, I was so excited, as I read about two new Frank Sinatra CDs that would be releasing on October 11th from Capitol/UMe.

I have worked with Capitol/UMe over the years to feature their new CD and Vinyl releases, so was quick to reach and request review copies of these two Frank Sinatra CDs to review.  Last week was "happy mail" as these two new releases arrived in the mail, without any bills in sight, and I had a long ride to my girls' classes.  So, I had the girls bring their headphones to plug into their DVD players, and I brought along my two new Frank Sinatra CDs to listen to in the car ride down and back.  You could tell I was enjoying these new releases as I had a huge smile on my face.  Even my youngest daughter had to point this out when we got to their classes, asking me why I was so happy and smiling while driving.  I told her that listening to Frank Sinatra puts me in my happy place and makes long drives like this one more manageable and enjoyable.

I really enjoyed the "My Way Frank Sinatra" release as it was the expanded CD edition that contained four rare bonus tracks, plus an exclusive essay by David Ritz.   The bonus tracks were different versions of "My Way" -- two being duets with Willie Nelson and Luciano Pavarotti, and the other two being live performances at the Ahmanson Theatre in LA in 1971 and the Reunion Arena in Dallas, TX in 1987.  "My Way" is one of my favorite Frank Sinatra songs, so it was nice to hear the different versions that make up the bonus tracks section of this new CD release. If I had to choose a favorite of the four "My Way" versions, I would have to go with the duet with Luciano Pavarotti, as he is another favorite singer of mine.

Here is more about the 50th anniversary edition of Frank Sinatra's classic album My Way release, including the complete track listing...

As mentioned above, in addition to the "My Way" Frank Sinatra CD release, Capitol/UMe also released the "Sinatra Sings Alan & Marilyn Bergman" CD on October 11th.  This CD features "Nice 'N' Easy," "How Do you Keep the Music Playing," and "The Summer Knows," to name a few.  There are also two unreleased tracks that you must hear -- "Leave It All to Me" and "How Do you Keep the Music Playing?".  I really enjoyed this new Frank Sinatra CD, too, especially because it had "Christmas Memories" on it, and this got me thinking of putting up our tree early, so that we would have longer to enjoy the twinkling lights at night time. :-)

Here is more about the Sinatra Sings Alan & Marilyn Bergman, a compilation of songs written by Alan and Marilyn Bergman CD release, including the complete track listing...

"Sinatra Sings Alan & Marilyn Bergman features songs by the esteemed, Academy Award winning songwriting duo, including the title track from Sinatra's 1960 Grammy-nominated album, "Nice 'N' Easy." "As lyric writers," say Alan and Marilyn Bergman in liner notes, "to have a singer understand and be able to communicate what you wrote, whether it be about love or love lost or songs that needed a humorous approach, Frank got it... his readings were always on the money and more than what we heard in our minds."
