I was so excited when I heard that Rosemary Wells was releasing another book, as my family is a huge fan of this best-selling children's author. I grew up having her books read to me by my mother, and now get to share her classic books, as well as her new releases like MAX & RUBY AND TWIN TROUBLE.
A while back I was able to bring my girls for a meet and greet with the author at one of her book readings, and it was amazing. She is such a friendly person and had my girls smiling from ear to ear. They cherish the book she personalized and signed for them, and now read it on their own. :-)
When I was contacted to review and offer a giveaway (read on to learn how to enter my giveaway for a chance to win this upcoming release), I jumped at the opportunity, as both of my girls grew up watching the Max & Ruby show on Nick Jr., and we have lots of DVDs from the series that they have watched over and over again over the years. Even though my girls are getting older, they will still sit and watch seasonal episodes of Max & Ruby, including the Easter episode with the chocolate chicken hunt. That is one of their favorites, and they both can recite the dialogue word for word when they watch it.
This upcoming book release from Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing Division celebrates the 40th anniversary of Max & Ruby...WOW! I can't believe they have been around that long! Were you a fan of Rosemary Well's Max & Ruby books as a kid. My mom kept my Max & Ruby books she used to read to my brothers and I, and passed them down to me to share with my girls. That is how my girls were introduced to Max & Ruby. And, then they stumbled upon the show on Nick Jr., and were hooked on the books and hit animated series.
In the new MAX & RUBY AND TWIN TROUBLE book, Max & Ruby find out that they will be big brother and sister to twins, as Mommy has a baby in her belly. Ruby is quick to point out that she knows all about babies and how to take care of them. Ruby used to help Mommy with Max, so she is ready for another baby in the house. But, Max doesn't know anything about babies, and feels a little left out. But, leave it to Ruby to tell Max all about babies, so that he will know how to help once the babies arrive.
This is a cute picture book that would make for a great gift idea to kids who will be becoming big sister or brother soon. After I read this book to my girls, they hoped I would be giving them a baby brother or sister, as they were all ready to help out. I had to break the news that they were going to be the only kids I was having, but that it was nice that they were all ready to help and step up into the role of big sisters. :-)
The story is easy to read and will keep even the youngest of listeners engaged from start to finish. And, the illustrations are classic Max & Ruby illustrations and do a great job in bringing the story to life, and showing how crazy life can be with a new baby (or twins) in the house, for both parents and siblings. My girls loved watching Max and Ruby try and help put their new brother, Oliver, and sister, Grace to sleep in their crib. By the time we got to the last page, my youngest said, "Mom, babies are work. I am tired just listening and see how the story played out!" I guess she was having second thoughts on wanting a baby in the house. :-)
