With Valentine's Day fast approaching, you are probably stocking up on candy for your kids to hand out to friends and their teachers at school.  But, what if they could make their own candy at home?  Well, now they can with the STEM at Play YUM! Candy Making Lab Kit by ETA hand2mind.  This STEM hands-on kit contains ingredients for your kids (ages 8+ to create tasty homemade Valentine's Day treats like Jelly Hearts & Worms and Crystal “Rock” Candy Lollipops, that they will be proud to hand out to for others to enjoy...that is, if they can resist the temptation to eat all the candy themselves. :-)

In addition to learning how to make their own tasty candy, kids will also be learning all about chemical reactions between liquids and jelly candies, explore how and why sugar dissolves, and so much more. The 16 STEM experiments included in the YUM! Candy Making Lab Kit will provide hours of fun for both kids and adults, with bonus edible treats at the end. Who says learning can't be fun? With this STEM kit from ETA hand2mind kids will not fight you in wanting to learn about science and trying their hand at different experiments, as this kit presents STEM skills and concepts in such a fun way, they will forget they are actually learning, while having fun!

I surprised my girls with the STEM at Play YUM! Candy Making Lab Kit the other day for our Funday Friday. Usually we will either go on a field trip or do fun stuff in place of just workbooks, papers, etc. But, shh, don't tell the girls, what they usually do for these "Funday Friday Non-School Days" actual has them learning, while reinforcing things we have learned recently. They are just having so much fun and not thinking about school, that it is a more enjoyable way of learning. :-)

Here is more about the STEM at Play YUM! Candy Making Lab Kit, which would make for a fun Valentine's Day gift or activity to do with your kids. It would even make for a great surprise gift to send your child into school with, so that their whole class can have fun making and sampling the yummy treats they all come up with by following the easy to follow along experiments included in this edible lab kit.

  • 16 experiments included
  • Work and learn through purposeful science-based play
  • Exploring scientific principles

  • Making Jelly Hearts & Worms
  • Making Crystal "Rock" Candy Lollipops
  • Checking the amount of sugar in a soft drink
  • Testing how liquids affect jelly candies
  • Exploring how sugar dissolves & more!"

My girls really enjoyed making the Jelly Hearts and Worms. And, they couldn't get over how much sugar is in a soda. This just helped reiterate how sugary juices and soft drinks are not good for you, as they were able to do an experiment and see for themselves the amount of sugar that is included. I personally loved the crystal "rock" candy lollipops, as I grew up enjoying "rock" candy during summers in NH. Our first stop before heading to our summer place was always the nearby 5 & 10 store and my brothers and I would fill our pockets full of loose change we had collected, and fill a brown bag full of candy to tide us over while we were on vacation. I always went with the root beer barrels and "rock" candy, and this YUM! Candy Making Lab Kit, brought a little nostalgia back, as I was sampled the "rock" candy my girls made. :-)

If your kids love STEM learning or have ever been curious about how candy is made, this would be a fun kit to pick up and share with them. Like I said, there are 16 experiments included with this candy making kit, and will provide your whole family will hours of fun, as you roll up your sleeves and learn about candy making and science, all at the same time!
