Life is Only as Good as Your Mindset- So How Can We Be More Happy and Positive?

Life can be hard at times, no one is denying that. Most of us are juggling kids and career, running a home, trying to maintain hobbies and something of a social life. There’s pressure on us to look a certain way, to provide our families with nice things, to fit a million tasks into each day and generally go about it all with a smile on our faces. It might seem like a tall order, but actually, if you get into the right mindset you can stay happy and upbeat regardless of what life throws at you. Here are a few ways to go about it.

Don’t sweat the small stuff

It’s easy to get bogged down with the stresses and frustrations of daily life. You’ve misplaced something, your child is being noisy, your pet is getting under your feet or the store has run out of the item that you want. It can be annoying- but think about the bigger picture. Are these little annoyances really worth ruining your mood over? Do they really make a big difference in the grand scheme of things? No one is 100% happy and upbeat all of the time, we’re all guilty of stressing ourselves out over things that we shouldn’t. But be aware of the way you respond to things. Things won’t always go our way. There are always going to be daily frustrations and annoyances, and everything won't always run smoothly- that’s life. So being resilient and able to brush off these small things will help with your mood and mindset in a big way.

Remain positive in the face of adversity

Sometimes, it’s not just the small stuff that life will throw at you. Sometimes the issues we face are serious, life changing events. Divorce or a lost job are examples of difficult situations that many of us have to deal with at one time or another. Remember, it’s OK to be sad for a while, it’s OK to feel worried or upset- that’s completely normal! But once you’ve got over these initial feelings, do what you can to move on. In the case of a divorce, this could be making practical plans for child support and splitting up assets that can help you to move forward in a positive way. If it’s a lost job, you could start looking for something new or even look into setting up your own business. Look at the positives, maybe you’ve not been happy for a while and what’s happened is a blessing in disguise. Look to find the silver lining in any situation.

Have an outlet for your frustrations

If you do find yourself getting frustrated, stressed or anxious, instead of blowing up over something silly and unrelated, work on reducing these negative feelings. This will prevent this from happening in the first place, and it can positively impact your mental and physical health. Find ways to relax, from trips to the spa to hot baths at home. You could try exercise, journaling or even having an early night and getting a good rest. Do whatever is going to clear your head and leave you feeling positive and energized!

  1. All great! I also like to keep a prayer list and see all of the prayers that God has answered. It reminds me that he is in control and everything is working for His glory.
