UA ColdGear Jackets Protects Your Kids from the Cold + Are Oh So Stylish! - My Daughter Loves Her New Girls' UA Rocky Pine Jacket (Review)

Disclosure:  I was sent a sample from the vendor in exchange for an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.

"Tis the Season" for the chilly winter weather to finally arrive, and stick with us until March/April.  If you live on the East Coast, around the New England, then you have probably seen a few snowfalls so far, and many mornings waking to frost covering the grass, as the soil below continues to freeze and harden.  No more flowers pushing up and blooming their wondrous colors until spring. And, we have to say "goodbye" to our fall coats and sweatshirts that have gotten us through the cold temps up until now and "hello" to our winter coats.

Now that you have pulled out your family's winter coats, its time to see if they fit.  My youngest seems to sprout overnight, and each and every season I hope for her clothes and shoes to fit, as they still look new, but no luck.  I find myself having to do another seasonal shopping trip to get her new clothes, while I pack up her old clothes and hope her older sister (who is on the small) side can fit into them when she reaches that size.  Thankfully I have gotten lucky in that the youngest's hand me downs fit the oldest one.  Funny how that works...I don't think they will like this when they get older, having shared each others clothes, but for now they are content, and I can save a few dollars on only needing to shop for a new wardrobe for one child instead of two.

In addition to winter clothes and boots for my daughter, I also had to get her a new winter coat.  We ended up donating her few winter coats from last season, as they looked almost new.  She is not one to wear coats, as she doesn't like feeling constricted, but I find that when she doesn't wear a coat, she is more prone to getting sick, and then her asthma kicks in and we are laid up all winter with colds that go through the house, and really run everyone down.

I looked online at different coat brands and found myself continually returning to the Under Armour website.  While I have never bought their coats, I have had many friends and family recommend them over the years.

After browsing their girl's coat selection with my daughter, she kept asking to go back to the UA Rocky Pine jacket.  She loved the colors of the coat, and loved all the features -- windproof, waterproof and with UA Storm technology, which means it repels water without sacrificing breathability, making it a great winter jacket for people who like to hit the slopes and ski or snowboard, or kids that just like to be out and playing in the snow, like my two girls do.

"The degrees are dropping, and it’s getting increasingly more important to protect your child from the cold – whether they’re outside playing sports or playing with friends.
It has been 20 years since Under Armour officially launched its iconic ColdGear collection and changed the way we dress for cold weather activities. We sometimes don’t realize the negative effects the cold has on our bodies and the importance of keeping our bodies and our kids’ bodies warm.

UA’s ColdGear has stood the test of time and revolutionized the way we dress for cold weather activities. Think about what you wore skiing 20, 25 years ago – cotton layers, puffy coats, etc. – versus the light, functional, high-technically gear at our fingertips now – truly a world of difference that UA helped to pioneer. "

Check out this short video from UA that talks about the technology of ColdGear and science behind what happens to our bodies in the cold.

This is what sold me on the coat that I got for my daughter.  And, I have been sharing this video with friends and family, while raving about her new winter jacket.

I reached out to the folks at Under Amour and they graciously sent the UA Rocky Pine for my daughter and I to review.  I wish you could have saw her face when she saw me take it out the box.  She had no idea she was getting a coat, and it came at the right time as it had snowed the night before and the girls woke early and were itching to go outside and play in the snow.  My daughter had been wearing one of my old winter coats which I just can't part with (you know you do the same...hold on to clothes in hopes you will one day fit back into them...well, I am still holding out hope).  She wasn't a fan of the coat, but she has needed a winter coat lately with the cold AM temps, so that had to do until we found her the coat.  And, once the UA Rocky Pine coat jacket arrived at our door...she could say without hesitation that she found the perfect winter coat.  After trying it on, she couldn't help but strut back and forth in the hall way as if it magically turned into a catwalk.  She couldn't wait to show it off, and all the neat compartments and features of the jacket -- there are a a lot.

My daughter, who likes her clothes and jackets loose, really liked how this coat was loose and lightweight.  It is made with 3M Thinsulate insulation, it keeps her warm even though lightweight, by trapping body heat and allowing heat to escape.  She noticed this as soon as she put the jacket on for the first time, as she exclaimed, "Oh, Mommy, the coat is so cozy and warm."  She didn't want to take it off, and couldn't wait to put it to the test outside in the cold weather.

So, how did her new UA Rocky Pine Jacket hold up outside?  Usually she comes in after about 10 minutes as she can't handle the cold, or her other winter coats would get wet and make her clothes under the jacket wet, and thus get her cold.  But, this wasn't the case with her new jacket.  She was toasty warm, and even with all the snow angels and rolling the snow she was doing, her coat stayed dry.  She was amazed, and I was amazed at how well it held up.  This jacket finally let her enjoy playing outside for a long period of time, and she wasn't complaining about it being too bulky or uncomfortable.

Santa loved her coat :-)

A few people asked about her coat at the A Charlie Brown Christmas show in Boston -- they loved the colors and how lightweight it was.

And, the best part was we were able to last longer walking the streets of Boston checking out the lights because she had a coat that was comfy to wear and kept her warm. Woohoo!

Don't mind if I take a seat...it is 20 degrees out, but I feel so warm. :-)

We have had this jacket for about two weeks now, and mornings are no longer stressful when it comes to getting the girls ready to head outside.  Usually I would be fighting them to put their coats on just to get to the car.  But,now that she has this super cool jacket, she can't wait to put it on, and when she walks to classes and places, she walks with her head held high and with confidence, knowing that the jacket is a perfect fit for her (while still being loose) and it is oh so stylish.  I love seeing her so happy with her new winter coat, and am looking forward to winter knowing that she will be kept warm with her coat, and will be wearing a coat and not fighting me each morning.  Crossing my fingers this jacket will help lessen the cold/flu season in our house, as she will be wearing her coat.

If you have found that you or a member of your family need new winter coats this year, I highly recommend you checking out the Under Armour website.  While the jackets may look a little pricey.  The coat that we were sent for my daughter goes for around $150 and is available online through UA.com, as well as at DicksSportingGoods.com, it is worth every penny.  My daughter's coat even comes with an adjustable powder skirt and adjustable, warm ColdGear® cuffs to keep the cold out, so it should last her longer than her old winter coats, as it can grow with her.  I am so happy I finally had a chance to try out Under Armour and will definitely be buying our winter coats, and other outdoor and sports clothing from them for now on.  The quality is exceptional, and oh so comfortable.

So, what are you waiting for?  Head on over to https://www.underarmour.com/en-us and browse their selection of shoes, tops, bottoms, accessories, jackets and more for men, women and children (of all ages).  You will not be disappointed with your next Under Armour purchase.   And, remember, aUnder Armour’s longtime partner, DICK’s Sporting Goods is UA’s ColdGear headquarters.
