Do you have what it takes to be the next MacGyver?  If you grew up watching this show and hoping to one day save the day by picking a lock, turning a wad of bubble gum and a few nearby supplies into an explosive, or just have cool hair like MacGyver :-) , then you will want to pick up the new MacGyver: The Escape Room Game from Pressman.  This game is geared towards players ages 12+ and is perfect to play solo or with up to 4 players.

Recently, I was sent this, as well as a wonderful selection of games for kids (stay tuned for these reviews) from the kind folks at Pressman.  When I showed my husband the game, he said, "Oh boy!"  I am not sure if  he was being sarcastic or feared for the next game night, where he would have to show off his acquired MacGyver skills, or lack thereof.  :-)

This game, which is available exclusively at Target, includes 5 individual one-hour missions, which you complete with an interactive website that guides your through the missions.  Like the front of the game box says "Use your mind as the ultimate weapon," this game will put your escape skills to the test, and you have watching the clock as you try to complete each mission successfully.

"This multi-scenario escape room in a box is perfect for MacGyver fans and escape room fanatics alike! Players use the tools they’re given to solve the puzzles and diffuse the bombs – all leading to a final scenario that will require everything they’ve learned to stop a familiar opponent! Will you help MacGyver save the day, or will it end in disaster? For 1-4 players, ages 12 and up."

Game Contents
  • 5 Sealed Mission Envelopes – Underground Lab, Airplane, Factory, Missile Silo & Grand Finale
  • Secret Items Inside Envelopes
  • 1 Empty Utility Bag Envelope
  • Internet Access Required
  • Complete Instructions

Unlike other games from Pressman, this game is meant to be played once, as with each of the five missions, you will be "required to cut, tear, and fold various game components."  You will also need a pencil or pen, paper and Internet access, to help you complete these missions one at a time or back to back.

The other night after the girls went to bed, I pulled this game out for my husband to try our escape skills with.  We started with the first mission, thinking it starts off easy and gets harder, but were surprised to find, you really had to think with this game, and that all the missions would be hard.  This game will have you thinking outside the box, just like Angus "Mac" MacGyver did on the iconic television series.  I really liked the use of the interactive website for this game, as it had an operative at the Phoenix Foundation helping guide you through your mission, thus making it feel like a real escape mission.

Get ready to complete the following missions, which are included in this box, in labeled envelopes:

  1. Underground
  2. Lab
  3. Airplane
  4. Factory
  5. Missile Silo
  6. Grand Finale
You will need to collect tools along the way to help MacGyver save the day.  Do you have what it takes?  If you think so, and are looking for a fun game night with family and friends, or to play on your own, then pick up the new MacGyver: The Escape Room Game today from Pressman Toys.
