Even though summer always seems to fly by, I look forward to fall, not just because of the cooler weather and pumpkin and apple spiced treats, but also because many great annual books are released, including Ripley's Believe It or Not!.  If you follow my blog, then you have probably seen reviews of these books over the years.  This was one of the first books I blogged about when I started blogging back in 2007, and made me think to do a "Welcome in Fall with a Good Book" feature.  And, now, 11 years later I am still reviewing these great books, which are great to put out on the coffee table for family and friends to look at, especially when they come to visit around the holidays.  I have a handful of family members who look forward to checking out my annual Ripley's Believe It or Not! book, and this year's release will not disappoint.

Here is more about this recent release, which was published back on August 28th:

The first thing I do when a copy of this book every year is flip through all the pages checking out the full-color images.  Usually I have to do a double take on many of the pictures and stop and read about it.  I have to say compared to previous releases, this new release is jam-packed with oh so strange stories and oddities from around the world.  I found in the first few pages neat "Believe It" facts that included MA and CT, where I am from and now live.  Like did you know?...

  • "The Boston Police Dept. n MA added an ice cream truck to its patrol fleet in 2016 as part of a community policing initiative that has distributed more than 120,000 free ice cream cups since 2010
  • In March 2017, a 200-year old tavern was moved in its entirety from Southborough, MA to Guilford, CT, about 100 miles away.  The 9-room Woodbury Tavern, which dates back to 1808, had been dismantled and stored since 20 in a barn.  After it was put up for sale online, it was spotted by Bill Butterly, who bought it and plans to rebuild it as a home on his property in Guilford."
These are to two of the many things you will read in this year's Ripley's Believe It or Not! that will have you saying, "No way!," and then, "How Cool!."  Now that my girls are getting older, they are also enjoying this book, and sharing bizarre yet fun things they learned by flipping through and reading this year's installment to this popular bestselling series.  This book contains all-new content, including over 1,200 amazing stories from around the world, and amazing photographs that will have you do a double-take as they really are amazing and the type of photos you don't expect to be able to capture.

With the holidays fast approaching, I would love to recommend the new Ripley's Believe It or Not!: A Century of Strange," as a gift idea for those hard to shop for people on your list, or fans of this bestselling series.  This is definitely one book that will be picked up over and over again to enjoy, as we all wait until next year's release, to see if Ripley Publishing can top this year's soon to be best seller. :-)
